Day 5: Hungary vs Portugal | France vs Germany

Why is every white Brit commentator so negative towards Pogba? Constantly slating him despite him having a great game. Never mention anything good he does, but highlight every small little negative
Very noticeable from McCoist.

France look to have the same old formula. Bits of quality. A great counter. A solid defence that is well protected. Not much to watch but very effective and will be tough to beat.
Typical Deschamps style, very Italian.

Mbappe needs to fight his instincts to be right on the line (or past it too many times), he's just too quick for that inch or two to make a real difference.

Agreed, he is typically the kind of player that shouldn't be offside.

No offside was close enough to need VAR and the one that needed it, they didn't use it and were wrong (Mbappe).

Well, the one for Benzema's goal didn't take long either. Just a knee in it. It can indeed be done quicker, with less drama.

Won the ball beforehand and the ball was inch perfect. Only his touch let him down a bit. Still good play

And also somehow released the ball in that tight space once he’d won. He’s been great tonight, the fact that posters think he hasn’t just shows what he’s up against.

Makes me laugh that people are calling to sign a Declan Rice off the back of this. Kante is spending a lot of the time higher up than Pogba leading the press. Allows Pogba and Rabiot to set, and it’s why Pogba isn’t being caught out of position like at United.

They were both offside though. Then pen I'd have to see again but I feel Germany deserve something from the game second half.

Oh they were offside but you still feel ripped off.

The pen I think would have been given in the PL. His foot comes through his legs and he makes contact with the player before the ball. Going off old school rules not a pen though as there wasn't much contact.

Been solid. Guy has the biggest low bar for performances. A good pass now is an incredible game.

France scored one and had two ruled out for offside. Pogba was the one who created every one of those chances. That’s not a small contribution against a big team. All he needed was Mbappe to hold his run better on two occasions and he’d be lauded by everyone for obvious reasons.

You'd actually say that France was the unlucky team this game. They could have easily been 3 goals to the good.
Meh. They were offside and it wasn't borderline armpit decisions. Germany had the 1 chance with Gnabry that he should've scored. Been a tight game and probably a draw would be fair

A little bit shit that this match is going to end with an own goal as the winner. Germans got done by their own hands.

I've not seen such an inept display of crossing since Moyes was at United.

Anyway, that was a fun game. At least better than a lot of other dross served in this tournament.

France very impressive.

Neither side could have asked for a much harder first game. France were absolutely deserving winners and very solid

Volland. What’s the opposite of clutch?

wasn't Muller more of a 10 when they won the world cup? I guess they don't really have great options to put in front of him.

No end product for Germany. Very weak in the final third.
They're a bit like Spain in that regard. They came against the favourites though, and I actually thought they fared better than expected

Well, yeah, but if you ignore all of those chances and everything else he's done then he's been average.
