Second half of ET was quite a transformation. Really pleased the lads found their nerve.

Wonder if Gareth just said go out and play, feck them we're much better..

Really, based on what? Don't tell me its because a lot of them play on a certain league we know...
@Wumminator is clearly basing it off us having the best player ever in Maguire. His bulldozing runs with the ball are just a thing of beauty. And when he wins those towering headers? Oh, my!

Just got back. Get the feck in. England winning a penalty shootout, incredible scenes.

A bit off topic but what makes a England fan sometimes watch unknown players like Geraldes at Rio Ave?

They don't.

They have four players up front that sorta do something for half an hour or so and then get knackered. They don't actually create chances, they just run around a bit.

They've got a bunch of players at the back that are alright but once they get knackered suddenly forget how to defend.

And then a massive void in the middle where there's nothing and nobody.

We're gonna get punished for that complete lack of midfield at some point.

The thing is though, you have a (relatively) easy run the the final. I'd put England ahead of Sweden definitely, and maybe just Croatia. And then the final anything can happen.

I just enjoy football. :D

I saw their match against Benfica and he instantly stood out! Rio Ave got hammered but I though he had a good game himself and after that I tried to catch a few of their games vs Porto as well just to watch him play. I say only Porto and Benfica because you don't get many other games of other teams over here and he was ineligible to play against Sporting. It's very hard to catch a Rio Ave game being a Brit so I'm hoping he gets a chance at Sporting because they're much easier to watch.

Ok gotcha, he will do the pre season with them, big mess around there, England now.

Have to question Pekerman's and Colombia's approach to this game. While Rodriguez was out, he seemed to set Colombia up in a very negative fashion and their temperament was pretty embarrassing. They were lucky to take it to extra-time in the end.

But to lose a penalty shootout to England of all teams! Pekerman's legacy both at Argentina and at Colombia to a lesser extent is one full of "what ifs".

They were a disgrace to this tournament. Absolute shower of shithouses on every level. To see them lose this way is about as perfect as it gets.

Best of luck for next season! With all the commotion going on with players terminating their contracts it'll be good to get back to just playing the sport. If Geraldes manages to win a 1st team spot then I guess I'll have to root for you. Last year I mainly watched Benfica, which wasn't that much at all really.

Is that the rule? When he saved it no part of his body was anywhere near the line, just like kasper and Croatias keeper.

The only two i haven't notice dive forward were de gea and ospina. They are both going home

Doesn't matter where the keeper is when he saves it, only where he is when the ball is kicked.

"The defending goalkeeper must remain on the goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts until the ball has been kicked."
http://www.thefa.com/football-rules...laws/football-11-11/law-14---the-penalty-kick

I'd say both and Pickford and Ospina were still had part of their bodies on the goal line (just) when the ball was kicked for their saves.

I feel some of the comments vs Colombia are unfair. Yes, England was the better team and yes they played aggressively and complained a lot but they had to face the Queen of England Theater Company, and they became aggressive after a soft pen!

My mum, who has no interest in football, asked me who won the match I'd been watching. When I told her it was England, she said: "I knew it!" And how? Because they had a 'psychic' pig on This Morning, which predicted winning WC teams by eating apples with their names written on the skin. Yes, folks, this is my life...

Yeah I would have to agree with that. The way they played in the last 10 minutes chasing a goal and the first half of extra time shows if they tried to push on and be more courageous with the ball they had the quality to hurt England but instead they spent 90% of the match spoiling.

Is she single?

It was a fecking blatant penalty.

Colombia were a disgrace.

We weren't angels either, went down too easily in the 2nd half especially but they way they were behaving after the penalty was ludicrous.

Really, based on what? Don't tell me its because a lot of them play on a certain league we know...

Based on the fact they won a game against a team actively and clearly trying to cheat their way through it?

For me it was a penalty but from the ones that it could have gone the other way. But England was also never punished for the playacting. It was like Neymar x 10.

Honestly I'm part Welsh and part Polish so certainly not a diehard England fan at all but genuinely baffled by anyone who thought England's gamesmanship was even close to Colombia.

Just from the penalty awarded Colombia must've spent a good 3-4 minutes arguing with the ref and trying to disrupt things then after we had all those late challenges and snide clashes to try to provoke a reaction and get an English player sent off.

In first half Barrios should've been red card for the headbutt and then you had a Colombia coaching guy barging into Sterling for some bizarre season.

Huge fan of South American football but really disappointed by what I saw from them.

Reading some of the comments in that. Christ. Football fans are incredibly dumb.

England players also dived today, but unless you didn't understand I was making a joke with him. Congratulations.

Huh? Lingard took a dive in the box but I can't think what else you're referring to. Henderson went down easy for the head-butt, but that should have been a red regardless.

I'm not normally a huge England fan, and I don't like the narratives or moral footballing superiority that tend to follow them, but today it was totally justified. Colombia would have given themselves much more of a chance had they not been determined on focusing nearly all their interests in "the dark arts". The fact that one of their coaches even tried to provoke Sterling at half time with a foul/play-acting pretty much summed up their entire approach. I love their fans, and enjoyed watching the match with a lot of them, but they got everything they deserved.

Colombia were a disgrace. Horrible set of cnuts to a man. Get in England fully deserved.

Not to sure this England team will beat Sweden. Based on today's performances the Swedes do look better.

Maguire in the box too. And generally many of the fouls given were more of a product of play acting than actual faouls. Colombia played awful and they deserved to lose undoubtedly. However, I find it normal that they reacted to the playacting.

I'll openly admit I'm a pessimist when England are playing. It's tough to join the "It's coming home" bandwagon because I've experienced so much heartbreak.

The result today could have quite easily gone the other way and I'd be interested to see where fans/media would have pointed the finger.

Terrible game, neither side came out smellinh of roses. Was surprised at how negative Colombia were, not sure what happened there as being aggressive never got the best out of them IMO.

Ref was absolute dogshit, which was probably a huge contributing factor (and the more they complained the more one sided he seemed to be which doesn't really help things).

My only positive takeaway from that garbage was Rashford's emphatic penalty and Henderson missing. Brilliant

Just watched it. Agreed!
Colombia: Feckin shower of cheating cnuts!
Yer man scuffing up the penalty spot for Kane’s 1st penalty?
That just summed up their cnutishness I thought.

If you wanted a reason why some people don't like the sport, the England game is a prime example.

I was so nervous for Rashford. He receives plenty of stick by some supporters for being overrated, not clinical enough, playing for United etc, and a missed penalty would have made it worse. Thankfully that didn't happen. Beautiful pen.

Perfectly summarized. I was very disappointed with Colombia's demeanour. Very atypical.

What it tells me is that they didn't think they could go toe-to-toe with Anand without James. And it almost worked.

Well fecking said. It's such a shame. In an otherwise amazing world cup, this game highlighted the side of football that is so easy to ridicule. Colombia were filthy, England were theatrical. It's the kind of game a die-hard football fan can brush off as (generally) uncommon in the negative antics, but the casual fan that tunes in for the world cup would likely be utterly repelled by this showing from both sides.
