Day 19: Argentina vs. Switzerland

Di Maria have wasted chance after chance after chance. One have to hand it to the Swiss, Messi gets a triple mark every time he gets the ball.

If Argies don't score, they won't win in penalties. Benaglio is pretty good at it, while Romero is absolutely terrible. I remember him against Uruguay, he was more scared than the players who were shooting them.

I for one dont find this game boring, a real tactical battle going on out there and maybe there arent the number of chances and shots created but there is plenty going on in the game to make it interesting. You lot sound like spoilt brats
What's frustrating is the consistently poor decision-making and technical quality.

Has Di Maria heard the news that his club are after James, or something?

It's a real pity he's gone to the World Cup and basically ruined the reputation he'd built up for himself over the season.

I'm probably being stupid but has Messi ever had a high profile pen shootout? I can't think of Barca being involved in any, in their golden years.

An excellent example of how the wrong tactics/formation can turn a world class player into nothing at all.

Good to keep in mind when rating our players after that debacle last season.

True, I agree. He's had such a good season with Real, but he has been very wasteful this match.

Though the tactics are terrible too. Messi obviously needs help, when he gets the ball he is surrounded by swiss but there's normally no-one else around to help. Terrible tactical positioning (for the whole team) all game.

Against Uruguay in Copa America. He took the first one and scored if very confidently.

Argies are going out if it comes to pens, don't they? :(
Whichever team I'm supporting when it comes down to penalties always seems to lose, so it looks like Argentina are going to the next round!
