Day 17: Morocco vs Spain | Portugal vs Switzerland (Last 16 7&8)

I’m not disrespecting Switzerland I’m just being realistic.

I fecking hope Portugal beat them anyway. The quality of that side of the draw is bad enough. A Swiss / Morocco quarter is too dull to even entertain.

We're well into the knockout stages and it's all about doing what you can in a fair manner to give yourself a chance to win. Morocco earned their way into the quarterfinal and if Switzerland beat Portgual in normal time, extra time, or shootout, so be it.

wright: when’s the last time someone told him no?

me: err…

Having agreed with Gary Neville for long time but what he said now about Ronaldo is correct. This isn't the way to behave at the end of his career. Ian Wright speaking truth as well.

Pissed off with him for his shit at United, but such a great career and one of the greatest in history needs to be more self aware and realise his legacy includes more than scoring lots of goals etc. Here he's playing for his country with a manager who always has his back, yet he still gave him attitude. A little manners goes a long way.,

Yeah, I understand the underdog appeal.

I just find Switzerland and Morocco incredibly dull teams.

I don’t want Portugal to win the WC (solely because of Ronaldo, nothing against the rest of the team), but I don’t want Switzerland or Morocco in the semis of the fecking WC.

I’m a neutral (regarding those 3 teams) and bad football is bad football.
Tbf Morocco have been a decent side to watch. They just parked half of Marrakech in front of the goal today because it was Spain and knowing how they play. I'd imagine it would be a different game with opposition like the Swiss.

Roy Keane raging somewhere because his beloved Ronaldo is being "disrespected" and "not being threated" differently to everyone else.

He was voted the best keeper of La Liga no ?

Yes he was, but i think Courtouis saved Real Madrid way more than Bono saved Sevilla tbh.
The Zamora Trophy is given to the keeper who has the less ratio of goals conceded, but that is also on the defenders not just the keeper.

Still i don't rate players based on international performances, international footy allows inconsistent players to shine more, e.g Sofyan Amrabat has always been an inconsistent player, and he looked like Casemiro against Spain, same can be said about Granite Xhaka, always looking class with Switzerland and his club level was never high.

Do ITV fancy doing any punditry at some point during the World Cup?

The stage is set for Ronaldo to come in as a substitute and save Portugal :)
Actually makes more sense than starting. Before this was decided alot of portuguese pundits had the same opinion. Put him on when Switzerland defenders are more tired.

Spain are terrible. Pass, pass, pass, pass. If you want to play that style, you have to move the ball faster. Teams get into position quickly and Spain then have nothing but another pass out wide, who then passes infield, who then passes backwards, who then passes out wide.. rinse repeat.

Japan were the only team this World Cup who played with a somewhat similar style and even they played with more cutting edge despite their relative lack of talents compared to Spain. Pointless, braindead football. I'm glad they're going home.

Aluko talking up Serbia's chances of winning here. Did you know she also has a first class law degree?

Spain's attacking options are quite pathetic in all honesty, have they produced a decent forward since Villa, Torres and Pedro?

Yeah for sure, I don’t begrudge them playing however they need to in order to win (or not lose, as with today).

I just really don’t want a WC semi or final with Morocco or Switzerland in it.

I want to see players with magic and the ability to really play and entertain.

I don’t get to watch many / any CL games because I haven’t got cable, so I wanna see the best teams and players.

Also, as much as I don’t begrudge any team playing how they need to in order to win, I don’t wanna watch negative footy.

She's a terrible pundit. I'm sure she used to be a lot better when she first did punditry but nowadays she's one of the worst

It's a tough period for him, but he will recover from it.
I know. All the fans knew it. He would have gotten a lot of grace from us because of his history with United, had he just tried to be a part of the team.

However, his personal issues with his career slowing down, is still no excuse for his recent behaviours

For one I’m delighted that Ronald’s happens to still be shit outside of playing football for our club.

Despite all common sense there was a little tiny part of me that wondered if we were to blame for it.

Correct, the kick off will be a disaster .....Swiss ...."you take ball and attack". Morocco " no chance, you take the ball and attack"

before the day wanted portugal to get knocked out, now i want them to progress today without ronaldo. Then bring him back next game to get knocked out with him pulling a lukaku and missing like 5 chances.

that lad for Morocco has impressed me every game I've seen him, Amrabat. has looked quality
