Day 14: Netherlands vs USA | Argentina vs Australia (Last 16 1&2)

So the flu rumors were BS?
Dont think so, but Van Gaal neber specified who were sick. Frenkie de Jong was a bit under the weather during the Qatar match he said. Would explain why he looked so disinterested.

If Ferreira does something this match he may well secure a move abroad in January or the summer. He's very small in the 9 role though, not a true 9 in my limited view, and can be pushed around but has some good abilities.

For whom does this Ferreira (sp?) play?

FC Dallas, who have two other starters today who were once part of the club - McKennie in the academy and Zimmerman after his college days. Acosta also came up through the academy and Moore had a short stint in there.

Ferreira's dad, David, was a pretty good attacking mid in his pomp. Jesus was born in Colombia but moved to Dallas when his dad signed in 2009.

Acosta also a FC Dallas product. Chris Richards would be here and starting if not injured and Pepi should fecking be on this team. FC Dallas has been a great asset for American soccer development.

It's the only thing that club does worth a damn. They don't spend much money on the first team and built their stadium so far away it literally alienated 90% of the local population. No one wants to spend 1-2 hours each way to travel to Frisco. But hey, it's white suburbia, probably makes the Hunts feel at home!

This can't be from people who follow the sport.

We have a chance to win against the Netherlands but whoever wins will get crushed by Argentina.

Of all the Ro16 matches I do think USA has best chance for an upset.

I agree that the US has a very good chance of winning

Soccer and football are both valid terms, and I would hope a country that has/had 245 different names for itself would appreciate this :D. Also, deep dish is great, but calling something that requires a knife, fork, and Lipitor to eat is not pizza.

Have a great match!

You massively overestimate Argentina. Either of these sides could easily beat them in a one off game.

I do fancy the USA today mind.

Thanks for his info.

Why has he not started yet this tourney?

Not a great fit for how we have been playing because, as @MrMarcello said, he is not physically imposing and not great with his hold up play. He started out as a #10(ish) player and so he still has the tendency to drop deep to receive the ball and then turn and look for the wide players. He is decently quick so he can get onto through balls. A good finisher in MLS but has missed some really "easy" looks for the USMNT. It is maddening that Berhalter brought him and not Pepi id this is how he was going to set up the team.

Let's send those fukers back to the land of Dykes, Strippers and Pot Heads!!!

John Brooks, is he retired from the US national team?

Not voluntarily. He "allegedly" (he did) had a massive fallout with Berhalter and has not been invited into a camp in ages. He also hasn't played at all for Benfica this year, so he is basically done.

Thanks. Remember him from the Bundesliga having played so many years there.

What did Reyna do to the US coach?

Absolutely baffling how much he's getting shafted. Can't even hide it now.
Who knows.....I mean Berhalter has previous for this (aforementioned Brooks), but I have to hope/believe there is actually an injury. I am sure we will find out after the WC.

Argentina vs Oz … can’t decide who I’m up for. I tend to like poetic football, but you have to love Ozzie resilience and energy. Hoping for a deserved winner, no fluky stuff or questionable calls. I am a sucker for high drama shootouts though.

Oh boy, I sure can't wait for another 120 minutes of LVG football!
