Game as good as over. Can’t see the United States coming back now unless they get the next goal which could make it exciting.

This is like watching a duel between a master and a novice. A rather large gap of experience. The Yanks are young and quick, but naive, inexperienced, and inefficient. The Dutch are composed, well-drilled, and experienced. Just sit back and wait for the openings.

Van Gaal has always coached his teams to slowly strangle the opponents like a python. It’s rarely exciting but it works when the opponents play into it by slowing everything down. The one thing the Dutch python can’t cope with is pace and quick passing… so Berhalter’s approach is to slow it down, take extra touches and cross in The air where our 5’6” players go up against 6’5” defenders.

They might, but the US has to play with more urgency. Way too slow out of the back. CB's also have to take the space and then actually make a progressive pass, which Holland is just letting them feck up over and over again. I'd actually consider taking Zimmerman off for a midfielder with some actual technical ability. The Dutch just gonna sit back and force US to break them down.

Naive set up by american coach too. Dutch are isolating american CBs by inviting USA near their box. Dutch are not at all trying to win midfield battle. But they are keeping Gapko and Depay lurking up front for counter. Americans are naively committing bodies leaving defense completely exposed.

Dutch have played a clever game and probably know the US is very one dimensional team that England fell for up to about the 70th minute, after Henderson and Grealish came on they totally evaporated.
One big problem for US is just how poor they are around the box other than Pulisic. I watched their Iran match and it's just woeful watching them struggle trying to shoot or pass, just no finesse or guile at all.

I just wonder against a better midfield if the Dutch could put one of their many centre backs alongside De Jong to play the DM role. They're strangling the life out of the US at the moment but against a better team I wonder if they're a bit light in that position.

It’s easy to dominate and sticking to Dutch principles when you have players like Cruyff, Van Basten, Gullit, Bergkamp, Robben.
Now we don’t have the players, but Van Gaal is a master coach getting us to victories.
I know Memphis isn't anything special but I really hope we bring him in for cheap in January. Has the intelligence and ability to slow things down, hold the ball up, and link up really well which is what we need to rotate with Martial.
