Day 14: Netherlands vs USA | Argentina vs Australia (Last 16 1&2)

It's all a bit sloppy in possession from the US, they were better than this in their previous games.

They are allowing Ream and Zimmerman to have the ball and dictate play....that's a problem bc Zimmerman isn't great with the ball

Bigger issue defensively is the lack of pressure on Depay especially when he drops to get the ball

That was really good CF play from Depay there and pretty poor wide forward play when he got the 1 v 1.

Jeezes, they play such tedious football under Van Gaal. Would've been a much better game if US scored first.

American CBs look like they're brothers, tall, slim, blonde and both have man buns.

Musah looks shot already. I was worried he would not have time to recover from Iran. May need Reyna in soon.

Memories of Depay’s performance against Stoke nearly a decade ago is clearly the judgment of some here.

There's more goals here for the dutch. De Jong playing very well

Klassen is marking Adams, forcing Ream and Zimmerman to pass forward. It is congested and US have lost possession too frequently already.

Football at the highest level is a question of details in terms of passing tempo and first touch. The US lack those and it's why despite the possession they have, they don't open up teams often

Watching this Dutch side, I'm not convinced either of Depay or Gakpo are solutions for us.

not sure how they are pressing....asking the mids to do too much pressing

let the front 3 press their 3 CB's and just keep the ball on one side of the pitch

US will run out of steam in the 2nd half as usual playing this way.

A young inexperienced team.

respect to Klaasen for making it to this level of football without ability or athleticism

I like the way USA play but really they, (and to an even greater degree Canada) are set up to be picked off by more cynical counter attacking teams. For all their improvements and the technical level is so much higher than say 20 years ago there is still a lack of big match experience there.

Kinda hope they find a way to win this game and knock out this boring Dutch team.

Shit players sometimes score.
Shit players don’t usually get to play for Manchester United and Barcelona as well as score a goal every other game at International level (42 in 84 games)…now 43.

Smart Dutch tactics to absorb all the energy from the US in the 1st half and hit them on the counter. US forwards don't look like scoring though and they haven't been able to keep up the frenetic pace in the 2nd halves so far. But the Dutch have played some poor passes and Memphis needs to look to pass not just shoot.

This does not bode well for US team. They are normally a first half team. If they are down going into break, can’t see them winning. Hope I am wrong as I want them to win as I really respect their players.

Dutch just sit and make you break them down then look to play on the counter...the CB's have no idea what to do with the ball
