Day 14: Mexico vs Sweden, South Korea vs Germany, Serbia vs Brazil, Switzerland vs Costa Rica

Germany are so boring. They weren't brilliant last World Cup, aside from the disembowling of Brazil, but they had just enough magic and luck to win. This year, they completely lack magic. I wouldn't mind seeing them crash out this round or next.

I wouldn’t mind another half like that for Sweden, we created plenty of chances and held off the Mexicans pretty well.

People online going mental over that Hernandez handball... looks 50/50 to me... certainly not "Clear and Obvious"

It's the tactics that makes you good defensively, the majority of times you commit bodies to attack it's on set pieces. Very defensive and controlled attacks. Even in a game you have to win like this one the tactics are based on counters. Really reminds me of Greece. Worked for them, let's see what happens.
We set up defensively but we actually play football rather than the hoofball we played we played with Zlatan in the team (which was a managerial problem).

You've literally just asked the same thing but with an extra question mark.
..... yes Mexico scored against them in 1st half. Was asking if this is the first time since any World Cup that Germany have not scored against any opposition team in 1st half.

The Sweden manager is one intense fecker. I know that looking and screaming at someone like that is probably perfectly fine in a Scandinavian context, but in many places doing that might get you in a big fight.

Not many people know that he is actually the first manager ever to scream at a ref.

To answer your question, no they've never played an entire group phase without scoring a goal in the first half of those games. They've had tournaments with only a single goal in that half though.

Have to disagree with you. I remember Sweden in the 2004 Euros? (with Zlatan), really enjoyable team to watch, with alot of speed and flair. This team is very boring for the neutral.

Germamy need new ideas. Having the season international manager for 12 years seems counterproductive to me.

Surely that was a pen in that Mexico and Sweden game? Hernandez handballed it

Thank you

@pjaya is trying to ask whether Germany have ever gone through an entire World Cup group without scoring a goal in the first half of any of the games. As they did this year.

That was a great team, but 14 years ago. I am talking about more recent times :)

I don't get it.. why do Germany go through if both matches are draw?

Sweden would have scored 3 goals in group stages and Germany 2

And Fifa tie breaker rules are -

  1. greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
  2. goal difference in all group matches;
  3. greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.
