Day 1: Turkey vs Italy

Watching on TSN. Usually they have shit pundits who just aren't informed, but first 2 seconds with De Guzman and and women's Canadian player and you can tell they are just more knowledgeable. Little things like saying Germany will have a hard time doing better than 2nd because of what they've actually been the past few years rather than calling them favourites because of name reputation (which I see way too much everywhere else).

Nervous as an Italy fan, Turkey are a strong side, hoping the strikers finally step up for us.

Italy to win and reach at least the semi finals, where they'll go out to france.
I am French and I f*cking hate us to play against Italy…it’s always a hard game, so I never be confident against them.

Can someone explain to me why Mancini is playing the old guys at the back if Italy are planning on attacking and having lots of possession this tournament? Aren't they opening themselves up to tons of trouble on the counter when Spinazzola goes forward (and he had one of the strongest ball carrying seasons in Europe this year so I'm assuming he isn't out there to sit back)? Seems like a lot of space for Jorginho-Bonucci-Chiellini-Florenzi to cover and that's a group of very slow gentlemen.

Not sure what his plan is, but i would have played Bastoni and Di Lorenzo for Florenzi and one of Bonucci/Chiellini at least. Maybe he is playing it safe and trusting the experienced and old guard, but these 3 are not top level anymore.

I could totally see playing Bonucci and Chiellini, lots of old CBs have had good tourneys with experience and guile, just seems odd to try to play a progressive style AND have Jorginho at DM AND slower CBs. Might be fine in the groups, but seems like a recipe for getting knocked out on the counter.

Opening game, maximum anticipation, teams in form...0-0 then.

I think only tomorrow people will realize that it's really international tournament time again. That damn pandemic has killed a lot of hype, understandably.

Can't wait for the game though, and I'm starting to feel a bit of buzz after all!

I'm so hyped for it. The club football season has been terrible with no fans, the whole super league bullshit, no rich super teams that can spend endless money, nice to go back to the roots and play for pure pride and every country just stuck with the players they have.

Don't mean to make it political, but my background is Kurdish, so yeah I'm not entirely fond of Mr Erdogan. But I've always genuinely liked the Italian NT anyway. I'd probably root for Turkey if they played a team like Saudi Arabia though :D
Thanks for being frank, mate. :D :D :D

Yeah that and virtual giant balls floating out of sinkholes in the pitch into the sky, like we just saw.

I'm watching all the build up on the BBC to get myself hyped. It's felt really muted until today.
