Who will be the new Spurs captain?
Who will be the new Spurs captain?
Crazy business model: long contracts for washed up players, who will eventually become hard to flog off once the bubble bursts.Their wage bill must be absolutely massive. All to hopefully just about avoid relegation.
Don't Spurs need central defenders?
I'm surprised at the criticism he's getting myself. Has he come back a different player from injury or something? If not, he's easily one of the best defenders in the bottom half and with him and Nelsen they have a lot of experience in that backline, and Onouha's a decent back-up.
If Dawson goes, that leaves us with Kaboul, Vertonghen, Caulker and Gallas. Why would we need more?
Because Spurs suffer a defensive crisis every season? Not to mention that defence is weak to begin with.

I seem to remember a team that started with a CM playing in central defence this season and getting battered ... but can't quite recall which team that was.
Probably our first XI back four is Walker, Kaboul, Vertonghen and Ekotto.
The 2nd XI back four might be Naughton, Caulker, Gallas and Bale.
I wouldn't call that "weak" by any means.
Doesn't that kind of back up his point, given we have more defenders (and better ones, obviously)?
Great, so would you now admit your single green laughing face post was perhaps a bit silly.
Gallas I suppose

The players that usually suffer from the injuries are now gone, bar Gallas. Dawson and King were the main culprits for the last few years.
Woodgate was in a perpetual state of injury and occasionally suffered from fitness.

You'll need to explain further, because I don't see how you starting off game 1 by having to shoe-horn a CM into central defence backs up his perpetual defensive "injury crisis" point re. Spurs
As for "better defenders", whether that's true anymore this season remains to be seen bar Vidic.
It backs up his point that having four CBs isn't enough at this level.
Bar Vidic? Yeah, just scrap our best defender and compare them. If you take away Vidic, you should take away Vertonghen too.
We got battered against Everton in the same way that Spurs got battered against Newcastle, that too when they were playing their first choice central defense. Tough times ahead of Spurs.

No. There's very little comparison between the two games.
Spurs lost against Newcastle, but played pretty well and were unlucky not to come away with at least a point.
You lost against Everton, played badly and deserved to lose. If not for De Gea the margin might have been 2 or 3 goals.
So if you're basing your season's prognosis on the first league game, which would be foolish, you should more accurately predict tough times ahead for your lot rather than Spurs.
Dawson + Carvalho if those deals go through will be one hell of a partnership for QPR
