Apparently QPR are close to a deal for him, fee as of yet unconfirmed. Seems like a strange move since Spurs sold Bassong as well today.

By the way, I want no infraction for bumping a two year old thread because there was one from 2003 that I could have bumped but I refrained manfully.

This kind of move is why I hope QPR get relegated. They just keep throwing money at their problems on mediocre players, and results wont change. Swansea on the other hand...

QPR are spending retarded about of money on some very average players.

Won't be surprised if they do a Portsmouth in a couple of years when Fernandez loses interest and they go down.

Dawson is average and injury prone.

Odd, He did well over the last 2 years. Better than most Arsenal Centre backs over the last few years

fecking hell, they really are becoming the destination of choice for ageing (often English) players to get a last payday.

Of the players they've bought of late, Green, Ferdinand, Luke Young, Ryan Nelsen, Zamora, Wright Phillips, Barton, Bothroyd and Andy Johnson are all pretty average at this level, will cost a bomb in wages and will have little or no sell-on value. Strange business model.

It says on BBC it is only a £5.5 million bid?

Anyway, he's way off being as good as Jagielka or Lescott.

Yes, seeing as the other two have played for England. Who do England have after Rio and Terry retire? It's these lot who will take over along with Smalling

Gary Cahill, Jones, Smalling, Jagielka.

Jagielka's defensive work yesterday was something that Dawson isn't capable of.

I don't really rate Cahill personally. Jones won't play CB for England, RB is where he's at i reckon

Hardly laughable.

I dont agree with the poster, I do think they are superior than Dawson. But its not a crazy opinion.

Dawson improved a lot 2 years ago and has been a good player for Spurs.

Lescott only improved last season

Dawson isn't even as good as Lescott when he was with us ffs. There is a reason QPR are the only ones interested.

Sky Sports sources understand Queens Park Rangers have bid in the region of £5.5million for Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson.

The centre-back was not in Spurs' 18-man squad for their defeat at Newcastle United on the opening day of the Premier League season and faces a tough task to regain a place.

Andre Villas-Boas has made William Gallas his new captain, Younes Kaboul started alongside the former Arsenal skipper and Jan Vertonghen was signed this summer.

Tottenham therefore have four centre-backs and Dawson could be viewed as fourth choice at White Hart Lane.

QPR exceptionally poor - Hughes
In contrast, the former Nottingham Forest player, who joined Spurs in 2005, could be guaranteed first-team football at QPR.

Mark Hughes' Loftus Road club were hammered 5-0 at home by Swansea City on Saturday in a horribly disjointed performance.

And the QPR boss, who has already signed seven players this summer, has clearly decided he needs to strengthen the centre of his defence before the transfer deadline at the end of August.

Wonder if he'll drop behind Caulker as well, although going forward I'd ship out Gallas rather then Dawson.

Why are you laughing like a tit?

He was on their level, and probably even better than them a few years back, but ever since he got injured and lost his place in the Spurs starting line up, Jagielka and Lescott has been steadily improving and are better than whatever Dawson has shown so far in his career.

Kaboul, Verthongen, Gallas and Caulker. Makes sense really.

Dawsons stock seems to have fallen due to injuries, not performances. He was mocked as a Titus Bramble quality defender, who under Redknapp turned his career around, got into the England squad and was named Spurs POTY. He's since been injured a lot, but many in this thread are talking about him as if he's the pre Redknapp era defender and ignoring the fact he was POTY at the club which finished 4th in the Prem. He's not one of the very best, but he's certainly one of the better Cb's in the league.

I watched Andy Carroll for Newcastle dominate Liverpool's defence and thought he looked unplayable, much like Fellaini last night. A week or two later I watched him play Spurs and Dawson dominated him and made him look like little boy. I saw Suarez give our back 4 a torrid time and the next time I saw him, Dawson had him in his pocket. He can't be that shit.

AVB wanted to get rid of him because he's too slow, apparently.

Probably a smart move but I still think AVB will ruin Spurs.

Great, so would you now admit your single green laughing face post was perhaps a bit silly.

I agree with this. Dawson has his strengths and weakness: very strong against ariel threats, good positioning, decent tackler, never shy of putting himself in harm's way and a real professional who never complains nor causes any squad problems.

But he's quite slow and not the best at bringing the ball out from defence.

On balance I'd rather see us keep Dawson and let Gallas go, albeit there's not much in it because Gallas is quicker and obviously has a wealth of top-level experience.

However, I can see that Dawson's lack of pace doesn't well suit AVB's preference for a high-defensive-line and ball-playing approach. But I'll miss Dawson's blood-and-guts approach if he is sold.

He's one of my favourite Spurs players in truth: more for his attitude and genuine professionalism than anything else. And the fact that he comes across as a really nice guy who gives his all.
