Sad to see him go after just learning about him being a director 1 minute ago

How will we replace Big Al Dawson MBE?

The biggest and most daunting task the club has undertaken since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, arguably bigger.

We cannot replace him. We cannot.

Not really worthy of a thread imho.

Dawson was the guy who was in charge of the logistics side at first team level and his role involved overseeing the ticketing, travel and security of the first team along with other things, hence his title head of football operations, 'operations' being the key word.

Ah now that’s interesting.

My first bought on reading about his background was “typical Ed Woodward. Impressed by an ex-military title”

If that was his job, having a Squadron Leader doing it sort of makes sense. Sounds overqualified, if anything.

Him being ex military was likely seen as being ideal due to the safety and security aspects involving the first team.

The graphic above from The Athletic is also misleading because the likes of Dawson and Brown are not directly involved on the structural side of the football club but are instead leading on the logistical side, where they're in-charge of the ticketing, travel and security aspects involving the deployed scouts or the first team in Dawson's case.

Indeed.

Some organisations (the Church of England being one) often appoint ex-officers to admin jobs for which they have neither aptitude nor experience, just because they think Brigadier or Commander sounds impressive.

Who else will put out the cones?

Knock it all you like but having a perfect line of cones evenly spaced is an art in itself.

They say that he is the Picasso of cones, you have to destroy it to rebuild it.

He’s been here for 5 years so he’s not been part of anything good during his time at the club. Good riddance I say.

Director of Operation, eh?

Keeping that same jacuzzy for 15 years is probably the reason.

Next you will be telling me our Head Chef and Head of Jacuzzi's have departed.
