Davide Petrucci

I thought he was great in the reserves last season, If we had no plans to give him game time which appears to be the case then I can not see any reason why we should not of loaned him out at the start of the season, another year in the reserves does nothing for him.

It's odd. But then a lot of what's happened at the club in recent years has been odd. Hopefully there's method in the madness somewhere.

Eikrem was pretty good in the reserves, he put in some cracking performances, yet he never got a sniff of first team action. I think that sometimes there is something that the staff in the player see that we don't. I am not saying that they are always right, by any means, after all Eikrem has been linked with a move back to the Prem.

Yeah that's it, just because he's injured lately we don't think he'll make it. Well done.

I think some see our reserve players very differently to what I and others do. People look at Petrucci and saw him playing well last season, but that's not what it's all about. He's nother really shown that extra bit of magic that sets him apart from the others and I think that's what the coaches are looking for at that level. Hence why players like Pogba and Morrison get a chance at 17/18, whilst 21 year old Petrucci doesn't get a sniff. It was the same with Eikrem, he played well without ever really excelling.

He was injured for two years, even at Roma he struggled with injuries.

I was wondering what the bump of this thread would entail. About bloody time too.

He needs game time, and he should get it at that level.

Mail is saying the same too.

This could be really good for him. Hope he makes the most of it and develops as a player.

Have hopes he'll make it with us someday, so let's hope this is a step towards our first team rather than out the door.

Great move for him, Peterborough play decent attacking football they just happen to also be terrible at the back so Wootton going too is no surprise but I think Petrucci will get plenty of oppurtunties to shine.

Its great for him, and Wootton if true, but i feel for our U21 team without those two.

A few players have returned and the u18's need some chances too. Won't be that bad, i guess.

I hope this works out I really do, not just because I think he has the potential to be a good player here but because of all the hard work he has done to recover from some serious injuries. Good luck to the guy.

Petrucci was good last year (which was encouraging given his injury problems), but I worry in that I can no longer see the 'special' level of talent that was there before his injuries. That's not to say he won't kick on massively or that he won't regain that aspect of his game, mind. It's just something you can't help but notice given how promising he was previously.

Hopefully they do well there. both players being there should help them settle in quickly as well.

Good move. He's at an age where he needs to push on quite quickly if he's going to have a future with us.

I think he can overcome the injuries. He may end up being seen as a 'late bloomer', but he doesn't seem to have any lasting effects of the injuries that I can see.

Its a weird one.. He looks quality most times I've seen him play but he doesnt seem to be getting any closer to the first team. Other reserve team players like Tunni, Cole and Lingard have had a look in as well..

Is it because of injuries?
Edit: The Mirror article suggests Petrucci will be off in the summer.. Would be disappointing, but not surprised.

Really look forward to seeing how he does in the Championship. And in a struggling side at that.

Finally. Will be taking an active interest in Peterborough's results now. Hopefully he does well.

Officially done btw.. Davide is just for a month initially.

Duo agree Posh loans

The club have confirmed that both Davide Petrucci and Scott Wootton will join Peterborough United on loan.

Petrucci has gone for a month - until 9 February, while Wootton has joined until the end of the season.

Wootton, 21, has previously impressed for Darren Ferguson's men in defence and midfield after a loan spell with The Posh for the first part of last season.

This will be 21-year-old Petrucci's first spell out on loan since joining United in July 2008. The midfielder has been a key figure for the Under-21s in the last couple of seasons and has regularly captained the side.

Have they got any players returning from injury in the short term? Loan looks more like a helping hand.

I can't for a second believe that he will be off in the summer. For starters he was captain of the reserves last year (I'm not sure if he still it) and he has already stated his desire to stay and work hard and break into the first team.

He looked decent in pre season rattling the bar and when you take into consideration his injury history it would be shambolic for us to just let him go without giving him a crack at the first team.

I really like the kid, he's got a lot of potential and scored some decent goals last season.

Called it in the newbies that he will go out on loan in January, as United might want to keep a track as to how he has been coping after the injuries that he has suffered. Good move for the lad. Hope he gets chances to impress and comes back as a better player.

Can you elaborate? I've never seem him play for more than an hour or so, and not before his injuries. What was he like pre-injury?

To be fair, that shouldn't mean that much because you basically described Magnus Eikrem when he was here.

With that being said, I doubt we'll sell him this Summer - although I wouldn't blame the guy if he wanted to move on just to get some first team football - a loan was long overdue (the long term injury didn't help of course) so hopefully he'll impress.

With Scholes and potentially Giggs (I doubt it though) retiring this Summer, there will be a slot in the midfield department for him.

It is good that Petrucci will be getting some much needed football but I am not keen on sending players out to play for D Ferguson in a relegation fight. How long before he gets sacked and the problems start?

Then we can take him back. No panic.

Petrucci needs games.

I half agree with you but then Im v consious about writing him off as the level he currently plays at makes its tougher for a player of his abilities to stand out.

Of all our youth players hes one that playing in the first team or with more experiienced pros may benefit the most. His vision is often not exploited by team mates.

As mentioned above Peterborough dont really do the whole defending thing so it could be a perfect opportunity for him. Really hope he gets that bit of luck he deserves after the last few years.

Darren Ferguson -

Davide is a very good footballer, is a good size and this is his first loan move, so that is why it is only for a month, but between the two of us, I am sure we can extend it to the end of the season if it works out for all parties.

'He can play anywhere in midfield, he can play off the front and he could play in a sitting role. He is a very talented boy and we will just find the right position for him. Lee Tomlin is obviously suspended, I have young Jaanai Gordon who has impressed, but I think Davide can play in that one off the front role.

'There have been rumours about Nick Powell, I have no idea where they have come from, it is not going to happen, he is injured anyway and I am not too sure my father will be letting him out on-loan anyway.

'We need bodies in, I spoke to my Dad about Davide for a couple of weeks and there was other clubs in for him so we are delighted to get him to the football club. My Dad was happy for him and Scott Wootton to join and they will go into the squad for Saturday,' Ferguson said.

Petrucci will wear the number 23 shirt.

Lovely technique and looked more threatening in advanced areas in my opinion. Seems less fluent and more conservative to me now. He's still stood out for the reserves though and Decotron's point that this reserve team is not well suited for him is a good one. The football our reserve team has played for the most part over the last year (particularly with Morrison/Pogba's departure and the Lingard loan this season) hasn't really been well suited to players like Petrucci.

It's been killing me this season watching Larnell Cole and Powell trying to link up with the likes of Bebe, Macheda, Tunnicliffe and Thorpe, and I'm terrified that we're going to seriously hinder Januzaj's development if we don't move on a few players and reshape the team a bit.
