I guess we may as well have a thread for this, as we're going to be seeing more and more of speculation coming out from Spain over the coming weeks and months about David's future.

Undoubtedly, he's an incredible goalkeeper but I just can't see how we can keep him, if he does want to back to his home country to be closer to his girlfriend. I'd be more annoyed, if he was leaving for purely footballing reasons, to be honest.

Also, I think the situation has changed since 2015. We were so reliant on him back then, but this season you can sense that as long as we get an adequate replacement in, we will be alright.

I say - get this situation sorted as quickly as possible. So we're not left bickering over broken fax machines and more importantly we start next season without uncertainty. Hopefully he will command a huge fee but I wouldn't be against a swap deal for someone like Isco or James.

We've gotten a lot of years out of him, bless the lad. Everyone would love for him to stay but if he doesn't want to stay, it's time to move on.

Feeling pretty sure that this is the summer he goes. I'll be sad and disappointed but it's hard to blame him for wanting a move back to Madrid.

He deserves to be playing at the highest level with the best players and winning trophies. Wouldn't begrudge him a move.

World Record fee and then snap up Donna Summers.

He's going to move eventually. If we sort our defence out we can afford to have an inferior goalkeeper.

The report sounds like BS
and that Real Madrid are prepared to make the same offer they made in 2015 in order to convince the Premier League side to sell their star.
That right there is pure nonsense.

Sounds like pure speculation. The report is basically, dave might want to go because Edurne is sick of England and Real will offer the same 30m euros to convince us to sell.

What that makes absolutley no sense

Real could have gotten him 2 summers ago but they messed around with the situation and he ended up signing a new long term deal. I can't see United selling him under any circumstances that Real will be willing to meet and I don't see why De Gea would force a move to Real either. If he were desperate to leave he would have left last summer for sure.

I think he has put Real out of his head and is committed to becoming a United legend. It was clear Real didn't want him that much if you saw how long it took from them to put any decent money on the table, why would he want to go to a club that isn't fully committed to him ? And if Real didn't want to fork out 40m for him when his contract was running out, why would they fork out 80m for him now that he is under a long term contract ?

No, just no, David stays, end of story

After 3 years of misguidance, we are finally on the right track and need DDG more than ever. I feel if we could win the EL and enter Champions league we could give him a reason to look forward to the next season.

For what it's worth, Balague said last week that real will be in for De Gea or Thibaut Courtois this summer. I know he's a prick most of the time but he did break our transfer for De Gea in the first place.

Balls to that.

I'd rather get Pickford from Sunderland, he's a brilliant young keeper and is impressive despite having a completely crap outfield And defense in front of him.

It's hard to judge keepers like that though. Doesn't tell you what their concentration is like, which is one of the most important things for a top level goalkeeper.

Well the minimum he will go for will be his release clause so sounds like bullshit. We won't sell him for a penny less.
The clause expired last summer.
Adam Crafton, who's closer than any journo to his family says Dave's opinion hasn't changed from last summer. He's very happy here and if Man Utd don't want to sell, he won't push for a transfer.

I have sort of made my peace with David leaving. If he wasn't Spanish and the whole girlfriend \ family living in Madrid thing wasn't an issue then I would begrudge it, but honestly if we list up all the pro's for David by moving to Madrid then I reckon most of us can understand him deciding to go.

I'm pretty confident that if we are in the CL next season, he'll still be here in September.

I think it's a matter of when and not if regarding his move.

Maybe he'll stay 1 more season if we qualify for the CL and then move.

I don't think Jose will go for Donnaruma. I think he's a bit young.

That may be harsh on Jose because he signed Cech and played Courtois while they were young GKs, but I think this time he'll want a GK with a touch more experience

Handanovic would be my bet

Yep, reckon he could go this summer, personally think he still wants it, and with Jose's mantra of "if they want out he won't stand in their way" then it looks on, preferably if it does happen then we get Madrid to deal with one of their players.

Easily our best and most consistent player in the last four years.

World class player wants to play at a world class club, which ultimately, we ain't. Good luck to him.

It keeps being talked about that his missus is in Madrid. But... Juan Mata is here, and I think it's clear who he loves the most.

"Pleeease-a-Juan, do not let go, eh? Phil Neville keeps asking me if I come to his house, we just stay like this until he walk away, no?"

I think it is quite clear if DDG goes the obvious candidte to replace him would be Navas

I think if we have a good replacement i.e. we sound out to Oblak and he's willing to come and if we feel we can get good deal from Madrid, we will let him go.

I'd rather stick with Romero than Schmeichel Jr.

In fact, if we don't get someone like Donnarumma or Oblak I would rather stick with Romero ahead of a lot of the alternatives. He really is a good keeper, not worldie level like DDG, but still very good.

Why would he go?

He's on his way to being a legend at United. He would be under more scrutiny at Madrid. The club is less stable. He plays with less pressure at United. And he's surely the highest paid GK in the world. It's not gonna happen.

Ronaldo was on his way to becoming a legend whilst we were at the very top and he still went.

Wasn't it just in the summer when there was an article written by can't remember whom about us getting DDG's youth coach/letting his dead train with him or something which would, as a result, indicate his long-term plans with us?

Hopefully an EL win and some big summer signings can persuade the lad but I don't have high hopes. If he wants to leave then fair enough, get it over and done with and move on. We can't have this popping up every summer.

Yes there was, Crafton in the Mail. We even hired his former coach.

I'd be ok if he was leaving for personal reasons. We don't really want a de Gea transfer saga every summer. Mourinho has improved the defence so that he doesn't have to make world class saves every game as he used to do. I think we will sign a decent replacement if he leaves. I would have preferred to keep him and have one less think to worry about but it looks like another busy transfer window is coming up.

MAybe a chance for Romero? He's looked very capable whenever I've seen him.

No, back up and that's it, don't get me wrong he's a very good keeper, but no way he's in the DDG, Van Der Sar, Schmeichel class, which is surely what United should always aspire to have, I just remember back to that Swansea game when LvG was refusing to play DDG and it reminds me that he has his limitations.
