David Brooks

Good player. We need all the squad depth we can get.

Still disappointed at the whole Sancho thing though, I'll be honest.

You think James, AWB and Maguire were bad signings or something?

Seems to be the fan consensus of the moment despite our defence conceding 30 less goals with the latter 2...

English players sold to PL clubs will normally be more expensive than the foreign alternative but that doesn't have any bearing on their quality. If they're good enough they're good enough regardless of nationality

What consensus are you talking about?

Anyone genuinely thinks we are going to put in a bid for him very soon? This is fast gathering pace while the Sancho business is getting all quiet now

Ole was a Liverpool fan. Why did he move to Man United?

It's a job, that's why.

I was being silly. The poster said he was a United fan. I was pointing out it mean f-all except he probably knows who Bryan Robson is.

On the Caf and social media, they've become scapegoats in recent weeks
To have a consensus you need much more than a bunch of toxic fans, parroting a pseudo journalist with a certain agenda.

£40 apparently which is what I was assuming based on Ake. He’s good but for £40m he best be a first team quality not can come on for 10 minutes.

I see what you mean but that’s the way the market has gone. I mean Ake has gone for £40m as you point out yet he will be a rotation player, same as our very own Fred who cost a similar amount.

He's quite a nice player to watch but his stats aren't great. Definitely wouldn't pay £40m.

Development at English lower leagues are a bit overrated. Look at Gnabry's development at Bremen compared to his spell at West Brom. I think Bremen is a great club for Chong.

Use could use the reverse example of that for loads of players, and Gnabry only played a few games for West Brom, they were also in the PL at the time

People need to stop with this British thing. It’s not an issue of nationality, it’s about quality. We all want Sancho whose British, a couple years ago we would’ve given anything for Harry Kane and I don’t remember too many complaints about Maguire.

What people, myself included, are upset about is going from a potential world class player to a decent player. It’s like missing out on Hazard and getting Ashley Young all over again.

I like this signing (probably in the minority). Can play a few positions, is definitely a promising player, will be pretty cheap all things considered, knows the league, will be happy playing or on the bench at a big club (probably) and is a good crosser, which we don’t have.
What I like most about him is that he plays simple football - knows when to beat a man, when to pass and when to whip a ball in from the wing. I do feel like as good as some of our players are, they can sometimes over complicate things, even squad players like James. It can be quite frustrating.

I don’t want him instead of Sancho but as well as or as someone to fill the role before Sancho comes in next season - fine. If we are struggling to agree €120m on Jadon, then Brooks + say Grealish and a defender will improve us just as much IMO.

Prices mentioned are too high but he'd be a good squad player to have. I think any disappointment about him would probably be if he ends up being the second choice option to Sancho, he needs to be coming in addition to a marquee signing rather than him being that signing.

£40 million is a decent sized gamble after him missing 90% of last season with injury. I'd take him for £25 million though

I like him a lot and hope we do end up signing him as a squad option. I just hope he's not our only signing in attack, it'd be a shame to see him get the Fellaini treatment by fans.

Didn’t know we were looking to replace Ashley Young

That's very harsh.

He's an upgrade on Lingard, Mata and Pereira. And he's the sort of player we should be looking at as a squad option.

The quoted £40m is incredibly high though. I think anything 25+ is a bit steep.

no not all bad signings at all. maguire has been excellent and AWB can become more consistent over the next few seasons but both of them were very expensive and obvious signings. Beyond that James (decent punt signing who could still easily fade away), Longstaff (not even the best Longstaff and we were going to spend 20/30 million on him), King (panic buy who wasn't good enough to make it here in the first place. is he really the best striker we could come up with after failing to get haaland?) and now possibly Brooks whos talented and left footed but coming off an injured and relegated season. He's going to help us keep Bruno fresh or drop Rashford while hes so out of form? I really don't know if we actually have our shit together at all or the signing of Bruno has made everything seem a lot better than it is. Our play has really tapered off since the start of July more or less. its more quality in the first 11 we need rather than expensive british squad players. Squad players getting paid too much for a few years quickly become deadwood. Ideally you want first 11 quality rotation options. Rashford badly needs dropping/competition. Greenwood needs rotating. We need a strong box striker to challenge Martial when Ighalo goes. Bruno needs someone top class to rotate with. Same with Matic and Shaw. this is all without getting a starting RW which seems to be taking up all our time. Theres still so much work to do. i fear our competitors look to be using the market much more efficiently than us yet again. Also if Brooks is our Sancho plan B then I actually give up.

I don't think he's in anywhere near good enough and unless they accept James or Periera as payment we should stay well clear.

I'd genuinely rather stick with Lingard and hope he recreates some of his better form.

Bournemouth spunked a trouser load on sub standard players they probably can't afford. I'm sure they're looking to recoup as much as they can. Doubt if they'll turn down 25 or thereabouts

I really wouldn't put it past United to have Brooks as a alternative to Sancho, especially now that Barcelona seem adamant that Dembele will not leave anytime soon.

As much as I like Brooks, if he is an option at 40m, I want to know why the club weren’t in for Ziyech at the same price.

What's their track record? Is there any evidence that they actually do have sources at the club?

What I will say is the person who wrote the article has called some things at other clubs before they actually happened, the most high profile being the signing of Ferran Torres to City before the mainstream media had picked it up

Fair enough he’s not a Sancho alternative, but in his own right he is a really good player and only going to get better. Would be pleased if we got him

Not seen much of him but the little I did see I was impressed. There was just something about him that stood out but can't quite describe it. Maybe he reminded me of a good old fashioned left winger. Good dribbler, always attacking the defenders, got stuck in and can cross.

On a different note there's also something about his shoes or lower socks that look different or old fashioned. Does he wear extra ankle protection or is it his style of boots? Nowadays everyone seems to wear thin and narrow. It's a bit like those who wear plain black boots stand out as different e.g. Dybala, they seem to run slower and boots seem thicker and heavier.

I do like him, but I think anyone who we potentially sign in the RW position who's name isn't Jadon Sancho will be slightly underwhelming.

Is he strictly a right winger? I could have sworn he operated a lot through the middle in his first season with Bournemouth.
