David Alaba....

& here I was thinking you’d do anything for the team!

A little covid never hurt anyone :nervous: As Trump says, don’t test it won’t find it so you’ll be fine

To be fair, all I need to do is inject some disinfectant, which ‘knocks it out in one minute’.

No thanks. Had enough of players who leave top clubs and then don't give their all for United, and if he's leaving Bayern there is a problem with him.

Like the time when players like Seedorf and Davids left and tones of others more who went on to other bigs clubs and done well.

I would absolutely love to see him at LB or CB at our Club but I haven't seen him play in midfield so I am not that sure.

Shaw has found his feet now and will be the LB we knew he would be and a top LCB to boot.

If he leaves Bayern Munich it will be to Man. City surely? Such a Guardiola player really with all the positions he can fill on the pitch pretty well.

Man. City still have a weakness at left back and could also need more in midfield if their ban is upheld so them signing him would make plenty of sense. Just a question of whether Bayern really want to cash in on him.
Yeah, Alaba can play those three positions where City need improvement - LB, CB, DM. But if the ban stands then there's no chance.

On the one hand, joining Peps team seems like the obvious thing to do for a versatile player like him, who only speaks highly of Guardiola and fits his playstyle like a glove.
On the other hand, if you were a versatile player that is really determined to play in midfield, are we sure the manager who loves to play midfielders in defence is the safest bet?

Whoever's gonna sign him for midfield is making a mistake. Never properly worked out at Austria or Bayern, think he's well overrating his midfield abilities.
Left back or wing back is another matter, still world class in these positions.

He's still nowhere near the player I thought he would be.

He's dependable defensively but still very mediocre in attack. I also don't like the fact he always seems to be carrying too much weight either.

Money no option likes of Alaba would be a huge upgrade on him. But like I said money is quite clearly an obstacle for most clubs this year.

If we didn't get Sancho I wouldn't mind us going for Alaba. Totally different position of course but it seriously improves the team nonetheless. Could go 352 with Rashford n Martial up top n Alaba as LWB / LM.

No, like the recent times where Man Utd have repeatedly signed players who don't want to be at the club or have already peaked from bigger clubs.

I understand the sentiment and I think this has been true a couple of times in the past, but Alaba is a top bloke. He isn't going to leave for money or because there are any problems between him and the club. Bayern is going to do everything to keep him including throwing money at him. If he doesn't extend his contract, he leaves, because he wants to experience another club/league, which is totally fine.

Ah ok. Where does he fit into the side? I wonder if we’re being used for a contract extension, it’s become the norm.

He would be a great option here, can play multiple positions and is still good age wise for a couple of years. Some small injuries here and there, but nothing big.

My guess is he will sign a new contract though.

He would be top top signing, one of the best lb in the world. However he will either stay or go to City because Pep loves him. We have no chance here

Alaba falls into this category because?

He is a left-back and a left-sided center back. Bayern is already offering him the best contract they can/will and I don't think that Alaba has any problem with the offer. If he extents his contract, he will end his (top level) career in Munich and maybe he wants to experience a different challenge after all these years. I think the decision could go both ways. He doesn't necessarily leave this summer, even if he doesn't extend his contract.

Only realised that his contract is up in 2021. I'd be willing to blow a lot of money on him. 28 years old and world class.

He can hold that left back spot which I think is a weakness. He can also play as a left-sided CB or DM if needed.

I think I'd go up to £50m.

How good is he in midfield?

He's be a big upgrade on Shaw, but not sure I'd want to sign him as a centre back.

If we need a left footed CB, how good is Alaba there? Shaw Alaba Maguire AWB looks nice on paper but don't know if he's actually good as a CB

He has been brilliant there for Bayern this season, although it's a very modern interpretation of the role as he plays quite proactively. Hs pace and agility would be perfect for Maguire, but:
  1. Maguire prefers to play on the left side
  2. There's no way Bayern are letting him go

I dont think he will come here but he's one of the best in the world.

10+ years at Bayern is a good achievement, he's won all there is to win. Sometimes its time for a new challenge.

He would be awesome at DM for us. Good to see us talking about world class talents

Thanks. Ole recently said we needed a left footed centre back but I actually don't think he's looking for a starter since Maguire already plays there LCB. I've heard that Bayern are really trying to keep him though so maybe he might leave in the end

I'd be surprised if Pep wouldn't try to go for him if he'd be on the market. Considering the state of City's defense where they still don't have a settled left back (Mendy/Zinchenko interchange depending on a tactical set up) and a starter CB next to Laporte (and they could really use some cover in midfield as well). In fact, every top club with available funds would probably try and get him.

He'd be a brilliant signing. He'd give us depth at three positions where we need depth and he'd probably start in one of those if fit.
But I don't think he'll come here if he indeed wants to play CM more regularly. He'd most likely get most of his games at LB or CB here.

It's not often Bayern lose one of their star players involuntarily, since Ballack left for Chelsea a lifetime ago I can only recall Kroos. Now they might be losing as many in one summer. If he doesn't sign a new contract I don't expect them to just let his contract run down. Davies has already established himself as a replacement at LB and at CB they still have three senior players in Süle, Hernandez and Boateng, as well as a supposedly great prospect in Kouassi. In times of Corona they'd probably just take a decent fee.

At least Flick also said he wants to do everything in his power to keep both of them. He's still saying and doing all the right things since he took over.

Is this in any way about Flick though? He's already been playing both guys constantly. I suppose for Alaba the position could be an issue, but there isn't much to be done there, is it? Seems to me like it's mostly a question of money and/or whether they want to spend their best years in Germany or try something else.

He's surely worth an inquiry for CB, not sure if we'd be his preferred choice of destination but you never know.

Being right footed you'd have to imagine he'd be equally good on the right, although that's just speculation until we get a chance to see him play there.

That's more or less what I meant. Flick is not a factor for their wish to leave. On the contrary he's also trying what he can to keep standout players in the team, which is the least of what I want from a Bayern coach.

Would be an outstanding signing, can fill in so many positions and to a high standard.

Great attitude, ability, serial winner. Would absolutely love him here.

Would probably secure CB over Lindelof based on his performances there for Bayern, LB cover, Matic cover at DM.

I would be gutted to see him move to a rival.

He excels at everything. He's just that talented. Would start here as CB, LB, or DM whatever he likes. He's just that good.

I suppose that's why he's considering leaving. He just doesn't get the recognition he deserves it seems.

He clearly prefers that side as he had played there at Leicester and Hull (I think) and also played on the left side of a back 3 for England. I don't expect him to seriously struggle on the right, but I doubt that his record would've looked the same way if he felt equally comfortable on either side.

If the reason for leaving Bayern is to play more in the midfield... he won't accept coming here to play as a LB or CB... he can cover some matches if we need, but he won't be playing there every week.
I have no idea how good he plays as DM... but it is a position we could use some strengthening.

Honestly I think this is just negotiation tactics by him, and will end with a new contract.

Wouldn’t mind it considering he can play a number of positions To a high level. Valuable squad addition to whoever gets him Should he leave.

Getting some Kroos vibes from this one... just pay the man already.
