Darwin Núñez / signs for Liverpool

I’m not a fan either, but Ten Hag was playing a literal lump up front for Ajax in Haller. Maybe he’s into these types of strikers.
Haller is a good example of a guy who struggled in England but tbh I think they are different, hopefully if that happens it’ll be based on a Ten Haag demand, and if it goes wrong everybody knows who was responsible for the signing.

The costs involved sound excessively for a player who looks decent but not exceptional. I can understand paying a lot for De Jong but not this fella.

Guarantee all the posters saying that this guy is a donkey and not worth £85M will cry that United are inept if/when he starts banging in the goals for Liverpool next season - they'll also say the same if he comes to us and has a poor season.

Scored 6 goals in 29 games season before in Primeira Liga.
Yeah not worth £85m then! I get teams buy on potential a lot of the time, but doing it based on one season is a bit crazy
He was 20, first season in Portuguese football. The next year he hit 26 goals in 28.

Maybe it was a fluke, or perhaps he's just got better?

People seem to be clinging onto these silly youtube videos and champions league stats that apparently make him a bad player.

I've not seen a striker give Liverpools defence such a hard time for a very long time. Maybe it was a lucky performance, but he showed plenty enough to me that night alone.

Whoever ends up with him will get a goal machine. The odd dodgy touch won't matter when he's hitting 20+ a season.

That's what is depressing though, he'll probably be far more successful at Liverpool due to their in grained style. I rate 10 bag to whip us into shape, but it'll still take time.

Anyway £85m for Núñez does seem incredibly excessive regardless.

Except for when he did for the entirety of last season and with Juventus. Do you guys even watch United? Ronaldo hasn’t played wide for years and can barely dribble with the balls these days. He’s a poacher and spares his energy for runs into the box. Even at Madrid Benzema was the player that dropped deeper to allow Ronaldo the space, hence why Benzema had low goal scoring stats competed to now. To suggest he’s had a striking partner isn’t true.

Plus ETH is not going to play with two strikers, no top club or manager does these days.
I am aware ETH won't play two strikers hence why I am concerned about Ronaldos ability to play the lone striker role effectively. He will still score goals but he isn't very good at holding the ball up, winning duals or linking play

Benzema scored fewer goals when Ronaldo was around not because he was playing deeper but because he was doing more donkey work e.g. holding the ball up, pressing, running channels and Ronaldo hoovered up all of the chances.

Whoever Nunez signs for he will tear it up.

Unless it's prime R9 you lot will call him Sh1t.

He has a few loose touches, he's 22 name me a player who doesn't have a bad touch.

Anyone could put one of those videos of any player and make them look Non-league.

He will score 20+ if ETH wants him I'm all for it.

If he doesn't then move on.

Will be hard to sign him over Liverpool. Right now they're a much more attractive prospect. They must be convinced his general will work out fine.

Was obvious that Liverpool would get involved after his performances against them and the subsequent comments from Klopp and Van Dijk.

He was 21 years and 2 months when the 20/21 season started and just about 22 by the time it ended.

For someone with Utd in their nickname you seem hellbent on defending Liverpool and their recruitment..

Klopp seems to do his scouting on players during games against Liverpool. Apparently he only signed Minamino because of a goal he scored against us in 2019/his performance in general in that game.

How am I defending Liverpool? I want United to sign him  if you don't that's your choice.

I watched him both times against Liverpool and against the U.S.A the other night and he's a menace. He had some dodgy moments in that game mainly a poor pass to Cavani when he was in front of goal but he looks a top player. Always a threat and always pressing. He also seemed to link up quite well in that game.

I also think he should have won a penalty against Van Dijk at Anfield when he turned him inside out in the box and Van Dijk had to put his hands up and push on his chest to stop his forward momentum and him running straight past him for a free shot on gol from about 10 yards out.

I really really like him, he reminds me of Cavani at PSG.

Looks like we’re going to miss out on this one. Has Liverpool written all over it.

Good thing you have an excellent transfer committee then :smirk:

Doesn't seem like a Liverpool move to me. They have built a title challenging team on mostly £30-40m players.

I'd assume if it's true then they're absolutely convinced he'll be one of the great PL strikers.

Certainly don't see United spending around 70-80m on him when they urgently need a DM/CM

They did let loose for VVD, Keita and Allison so they must be absolutely convinced by his quality. Maybe he suits their system really well.

If he is one of our targets and he picks Liverpool that's a big shame

We need a massive summer and I won't lie I think the look of our summer is already very concerning considering what we have to get done

They've broken the transfer record for a defender and goalkeeper in that same time-frame so this myth that they never spend big is a bit off.

They even spent 50m on a 5th/6th choice CM in Naby Keita not long ago.

They've found some good bargains sure but they still spend big money when they find someone they think is worthwhile.

Darwin Núñez, very close to Liverpool.

Everything points to an 80+20 agreement in variables. Although the 'reds' for now do not exceed 75 and Benfica does not drop 80 fixed. Decisive hours.

The '9' prioritizes the Pool over other greats (United, PSG, Bayern...).

TBF that seems to be the going rate for promising players, 100m for Tchouameni is just as outrageous but there you have multiple clubs bidding for him.

50m doesn't get you Gabriel Jesus in this market apparently
Gabriel Jesus played 9.304 minutes in the Premier League and 2.203 minutes in the Champions League.
In minutes equivalents his stats are:
Champions League
25 games
20 goal 05 assists

Premier League
103 games
58 goal 32 assists

Total:128 games(in minutes played) 78 goals and 37 assists. Most of the time not playing really as a 9. Gabriel Jesus was supposed to replace Aguero, who was a special player. This is why he is so underrated.

It's a heck of a lot of money for a buy from the Portuguese league. Maybe he tears the league up and we say it's a bargain, but I think we can let him go for that price. It'll be pretty hard to undertake numerous signings when 80 million is getting dropped on Nunez. I don't see how him and De Jong would be possible for a start. There can probably only be one real big money signing if we're to address a number of failings, and I think we've nailed our colours to the De Jong mast.

I rate him and think he'll do well for Liverpool, but I never really understood the idea that we were in for him this summer.

At that money, he would expect to start every game while we have Ronaldo who will expect to start every game. How many more goals would Nunez score for us than Ronaldo will and why would Ten Hag want to bring that drama on himself in his first season?

Way better for us to concentrate on defence and midfield - maybe a right winger this summer, and then look to replace Ronaldo next year.

There will always be another Nunez.

That's a crazy price, and a big gamble for their rebuild. Let's hope he's another Andy Carroll.

Liverpool blow their load on Him and we blow ours on De Jong, who doesn't want to play for us either.

Well, that's that. We don't really stand a chance if another club comes calling. I sincerely hope we don't do something stupid and sign Richarlison now. But I have a feeling that's what's going to happen. :nervous:

It seems crazy until you realise there are very few good strikers on the market right now. Difference is their squad is already so good that they can afford to take a punt like this, whereas for us blowing most of our budget on him would be crazy given the amount of areas we need to resolve first.
