Darwin Núñez / signs for Liverpool

So possible scenario:

In: Timber 43m, Nunez 68m, Torres 40m+?
Out: Henderson, AWB to raise 40-50m

De Gea
Timber Varane Torres Shaw
Fred Garner
Ronaldo Bruno Sancho
Nunez

That midfield is bottom half quality and Ronaldo wouldn't work at RW these days, in my opinion. We'd be much better served spending this Nunez cash on a promising young backup CF and a top DM / CM, leaving us with something like:

DDG
Timber/Laird - Maguire/Timber - Varane - Shaw
FDJ - Fred
Sancho - Bruno - Rashford
Ronaldo

New CF, VDB, Elanga, Pellestri, Amad etc can act as impact / rotation options if still around.

Far from ideal of course, but with a limited budget surely CM has to be our top priority.

I’m confused?

What did you do with our transfer money? Have you pocketed the change and brought a ranch?

50 mill plus add ons I reckon is a fair price. What's good about Nunez is he seems like a clutch finisher. No one in the squad offers this attribute. The comments from Van Dijk signify that there's elements to his game fans underappreciate.

Nonsense. Ruuds build up play was as good as anyone's, Nunez really struggles to control a ball under pressure. It's like he has 50p coin feet.

Wait for the moaning about his touch and lack of ability in the build up if we get him.
Ruud was very good with his back to goal but he was never the ‘prettiest’ in style. Often hed look clumsy but find a way to hold the ball. I think Nunez ability on the ball is being understated. Again there’s nothing wrong with his touch, it’s not like Lukaku’s. He just has a way of dribbling that is quite ‘loose’. In front of goal he’s very much like Ruud, again it can look a little unconventional but he’s ice cold. I think he would be a monster here.

Nunezis a very good goal scorer but lacks build up play massively. I was assuming ETH would be going in for a striker similar to Haller as it has worked out for him really well in recent years. It would be interesting to see if he would like to experiment a slightly different attacking style than one he set at Ajax.
What are you basing this on?

If Mendes is now his agent then you can be sure of one thing and that is that he is being hawked around all clubs or will be involved in some domino effect transfers that all line Mendes’ already bulging pockets

It'd be criminal to start next season with such a shit midfield. Signing two midfielders must be the priority.

My assessment below purely based on the videos and articles.

Pros:
1. Good close control and dribbling skill
2. Good header
3. Strong right foot
4. Makes direct runs. Want to get involved in build up.
5. Workhorse. Get involve in defending
6. Quick feet
7. Scores goals
8. Still young
9. Nuisance in and around the box

Cons:
1. Not fit for possession based football
2. Weaker left foot
3. Sometimes heavy touch
4. Sometimes bad decision making
5. Technically seems still raw

Overall a good striker to have. If he comes then Rashford has to go though.

Sancho - Bruno - Nunez

Haha, I'm not applying for any deputy-deputy-DOF roles, don't you fret.

My reasoning was, £120m reported kitty:

* FDJ ~ £60m
* Timber ~ £40m
* Backup CF ~ £20M

Looks pretty reasonable to me. Of course there may be sales, but outside of Henderson I don't see much there that'll generate much of anything really. Maybe an extra 40-50m or so altogether to throw into the pot if AWB goes too?

I'll throw in another CM if that's the case.

I have not watched him play, but a lot of people on Reddit saying he's similar to Lukaku. In that he scores goals, but has zero hold up play and passing ability.

Would this suit a possession based system? Sounds like a player who would thrive in a counter attacking system to me.

AwB, Bailly, Martial, Tuanzebe, Teles, Williams, Pereira, Henderson. Should fetch another 100/120 million.

I thought FDJ already turn us down yesterday?

I try and place any potential new signings into the Ajax team of last season to consider how they would fare in ETH's Utd squad. With Nunez in place of Haller, how many goals would he have scored and what would his price be if we were signing him from Ajax instead of Benfica? He would have had an incredible season if he were at Ajax last year.

Nunez would obviously go under the versatile attacker we are looking for, but can anyone tell me how he normally fares on the left, please?

According to whoscored.com, he played there 7 times this season and scored 8 goals.

Personally, I know it's not all about stats but his on the ball stats doesn't make for good reading at all.

South American Lukaku?
Exactly

I disagree . I've watched enough of him to tell that his first touch under pressure is poor,as his his passing under pressure. His dribbling is okay, I agree it looks unconventional but it's not a weak point. He is good at the press and he also has great finishing ability.

He's a player that would suit breakneck counter football, Liverpool for example, where EtH likes a more possession based attack and Nunez would need to be more involved in the the build up. We already have a FC that struggles with build up play.

This is an excellent analysis of Nunez.

If he comes I'd be more that happy to be proven wrong.

Hmm, possibly. I think it's highly unlikely we move on all of those players though, as much as I'd love that to be the case. I think if so around 100m in sales would be a fair estimate, and of course a big chunk in wages.

Who knows. I hope you're right and we can afford an extra CM, RB & possibly a versatile attacker on top of the existing positions. Big ask though, doesn't seem likely to me.

Why take this guys word for it because its part of a well-edited video?

I would prefer waiting for another season than buying him

Technical ability should be priority number one. I don't care how good of a good scorer he is we need a modern Aguero/Griezmann sort of striker not a target man. I would like to see a fluid, interchanging and dynamic attack

There is no chance in hell we make 100m from those names.

Wan-Bissaka and Henderson are the only 2 we'd get more than 5-10m for, and neither of those are going for more than 25.

Martial is going to cost us money to get rid of and a peanuts transfer for Pereira has already fallen through.

Williams, Telles or Tuanzebe aren't fetching much and the best case scenario for Bailly is a player exchange plus cash for Torres.

Because clubs from all over Europe employ him to build reports maybe? He does explain his work history in a few videos.
I'm just suspicious of anyone who is seemingly parroting something they have watched on youtube. From watching him a few times I think his poor hold up play is grossly exaggerated and that comes from someone who thinks Lukaku is the worst striker we've ever had so no one more than me wants to avoid version 2.0. I just don't see the similarities, he's technically decent but plays incredibly direct at the moment which is why he's losing the ball a fair amount. I see the same criticisms aimed at Bruno for having poor technique when that just isn't the case.

Perfect, just the area we need to stock up on, attackers who are at their best cutting in from the left.

I can't control you suspicions but I have offered two very good very intelligent sources with a better knowledge than most on the caf. Don't belittle the knowledge just because they are on YouTube.

As I also said, I've watched him a fair few times this year and found his touch/build up play very underwhelming. In a league that presses it'll get tested even more. It would be a problem.

Why take this guys word for it because its part of a well-edited video?

Whatever about youtube videos, I would tend to value the opinion of those who watch him week in week out over those who have just seen a few games. And the general consensus among people who actually watch him regularly in the Portugese league seems to be that he is technically average at best. In fact that's exactly how he was described by a Benfica fan posting in the opening pages of this thread.

Nothing I've seen put forward since offers any real reason to doubt that, beyond some people saying he didn't look that bad in the much smaller sample size of games they've seen.

Perhaps we would be better off sorting our midfield first, this lad should be on the bottom of our shopping list.

Hell maybe a more extraordinary prospect comes up a year from now.

I can pull out similar articles/threads for people like Fellaini to Maguire. I'd rather trust my own eyes. He doesn't look anything remotely special.

I share your skepticism as well especially given the price tag but this gives us different insights than watching him on YouTube, which might not tell the whole story.

He is already on the radar of many clubs. If he does well in a season's time his fee wont be 60M it will be more like closer to a 120M -- then a year from now people will be asking why we didn't buy him when he was so much cheaper ...Dumb United management!!!

Or he breaks his leg and then he is out for 12 months.

Its always a gamble.
