Darwin Núñez / signs for Liverpool

Ten Hag generally selects either a false 9 or a traditional #9 (target man type). I'm not sure Nunez fits the bill in either case. That doesn't necessarily mean we wouldn't consider him, but I'm expecting a different type of player.

He really doesn't look that bad though from what I've seen.

Sure he's untidy in places, but you only need to look at those every touch videos to see he's nowhere near as bad as they make out?

You then have to take into account he's an absolute goal machine. Do we really need him involved in the build up play if we have Sancho, Fernandes and Nkunku/Antony (insert your pick) supplying the goods?

At the end of the day we need to buy somebody. I don't see many other amazing up and coming strikers out there. We could play it safe and go tried/tested? maybe even get Pukki on the cheap.

I'm sure Ten Hag will know exactly what he wants. Maybe we will get Nkunku and play him as a false 9, but as far as i'm aware Ten Hag has often played with bigger number 9s?
Yeah but if he's untidy, in a generally agreed worse league, they will be highlighted even more in our league.

I agree we need someone, but I don't see why we need to gamble so heavily. Especially when we have Ronaldo, who we know can score. We need a striker with potential, do we need to spend over 60m+ on that - I'd say no.

He's apparently not that bad, but he's in the worst possible percentile for passes completed. That's not just being bad with room for improvement, that's awful.

Yeah, pass, especially at the cost.

Confirmed by the Athletic (Ornstein, Whitwell) that Nunez is under consideration.

He can't pass but he isn't completely awful in possession because his dribbling is decent.

130 million? Jesus, no.
I would be amazed if benfica managed to offload him for that amount.

No one is paying 130m for him

Exactly, not even 80M. I think the maximun Benfica will get is 70M. He's had a great season, but its his first one with that kind of numbers and his overall stats dont benefit him. I know theres a shortage of 9s but 130M is ridiculous.

The extremely reliable Brad Cuckman says he is going to 'pool.

[Brahian Kuchman] Last moment: There would be a first agreement for Darwin Núñez to be a new English Liverpool player. Jürgen Klopp has grown tired of praising the Uruguayan to such an extent that he will end up hiring him.

They really don't have a need for him. Firmino, Jota, Salah, Mane, Diaz, and Nunez on top of that?

I don't see us signing Nunez, we need a young striker but I'm not convinced he's the answer.

His work ethic and rampant running will fit with pool nicely.
His overall skill is still very iffy though.

Unless they sell Salah I can’t see Nunez going there.

Yeah I think people overrate this factor. Game time (and learning from good coaches) is much more important for young players than watching / training with greats. I'd rather start for another club rather than be PSGs backup right winger, too.
Anton Ferdinand disagrees based on him saying he learned more playing a half with Rio in a friendly than he did being a starter for years.

Remember the infamous MUTV Roy Keane interview in the early 2000s where he said about Rio “best defender in the world? He’s not even the best defender in his family” He then duly signed Anton for Sunderland didn’t he?

I'm not comfortable with signing players based on 1 season of doing well for exorbitant fees. If it's a decent fee then yes, but paying upwards of 60m when a player has just been okay then shot to prominence for one season? Nah.

Makes me uncomfortable.

Since we only have 100-150m to spend this summer, I am no longer sure he would be our priority. We have far bigger issues to work on. Would prefer Nkunku over him for his versatility, while there’s high chance ETH would go for Antony instead, which means we are only left with 2 spots for midfield/defence.

Is it 150M without counting sales?

Surely United will sell off many of these guys to create funds for new players ?

100-150m without counting sales, but it’s hard to assume we would sell all those players we’ve listed with ease, most of them are on high wages and have been in prolong period of poor form anyway. Judging from past experience, there is no guarantee there would be takers this summer willing to buy our deadwoods.

Take last summer for example, we have a long list of players for sales from here, but we only manage to sell James to Leeds (who is on low wage as we took him from championship), and loan out a few others.

I'm convinced that agents link players to us and then to our rivals to try and create a demand.

From the little I've seen of him, I'd be happy with him. Seems to have the attributes to be a stone-cold goalscorer in the PL.

After Haaland, there's a hell of a drop in talent available to be signed up in the Summer in striker-terms. I feel Nunez, and maybe Jonathan David, may be the best realistically available.

I'm not at all convinved it'd be a good buy but if Ten Hag really did want him that much.... *shrugs*

Not like I can name a host of other CF options I think would be nailed on successes either.

I think he’s the one (but I also thought Lukaku would turn into a stone cold killer here but he’s just clearly a mentally soft player) Maybe ETH will be a good mix of arm around the shoulder and cold ruthlessness? Darwin looks to me like a 15-20 goal a season PL striker in waiting but so does Alvarez and he only cost 20 million.

This just doesn't make sense, were basically blowing half of our budget on an unproven striker who could fail here miserably.
Is this Ronnie's doing asking Mendes and all that, does hag really want him that much?

I see him fitting pool much than he do for us but I guess we'll see.

Also is the source reliable?

Ronnie doesn’t make final decisions on who we sign. It’s nothing to do with with him.
