Darren Fletcher

Sad for him. After he missed the X-mas fixtures you knew bad news was coming.

Btw, reading about it Surgery in this means that he'll get a bag put around his intestines.

And it also means this is a serious infection and his chances of returning reduce. :(

Will be really tough to come back now, even though we'll give him every chance.

It's not tricky, you buy another player who can do what he does and keep him in the squad. If he recovers, great, we've got another option in CM, God knows we need one, if he doesn't, we're not short. The policy we're pursuing at the moment, relying on him as an important squad member even though he's clearly not been good enough since late 2010 is sentimental to the point of idiocy.

huh ? He wasn't in contention in the summer and Sir Alex didn't even mention him but still didn't bring any midfielder in. So much for that policy theory.

You do wonder if he can come back from this.

I'm kindve happy for him that he did make a few appearances and scored a goal this season.

Well that's your opinion.

But it isn't sentimental as we aren't saving a place for him and not buying for that reason.

I think it's pretty obvious that we are, Ferguson said last summer that he'd be giving Fletcher "every possible chance" to get back, that would seem to preclude signing a player in his position.

I'd say it's "idiocy" to just keep him hanging around the squad if you've gone out and bought someone to do what he did!
He's not exactly on a cheap wage here!

Also, I'm not sure anyone has counted him as an important squad member for a couple of years now.
Although the longer he's been out the more his reputation has soared.

Gutted. Hopefully we'll see him back soon.

Now now!

Wish him all the best in his recovery anyway. He has already started doing some coaching work, and I think he should start focussing on that a bit more now. Scotsmen make fine managers anyway.

Huh? How does it preclude anything? "every possible chance" to get fit is no equal to every possible chance to start every week.

Even if he comes back, it's not like Fletch would straight up demand to be anything more than a backup.

The key difference is back in the Summer he was back in training and expected to regain fitness by XMAS. Now we would be expecting the same timeline... but starting six months earlier.

Clevz hasn't had any significant injury issues (a question mark last Summer) so I think he will stick to his guns.

No he wasn't. He came back to training in August only and it was also a let's wait and see type of situation.

And now, with a surgery chances are even more reduced.

Just a poor choice of words rather than a cnutish joke.

No of course, I was only playing to be honest. I imagine the sentiment is the same throughout this thread, even amongst rival supporters. Fletch is definitely one of the good guys.

So this was planned? Hopefully it all goes well and he can make a full (as much as possible) recovery.

Football isnt important right now. Just get well soon.

Planned, eh? That explains why we haven't seen him at all recently.

I just wish him the best with his recovery and i'll look forward to seeing him next season. All that matters is he can live a decent life and continuing to play football for us is just the biggest bonus of all.

Not surprising I guess, given the experiences that other sufferers have shared. He's a young man with a young family and being well enough to enjoy that is what matter's most. If he gets well enough to play for us, that'll be a bonus. Best of luck to him.

Who are you talking to?

I hope this op just sorts out his everyday life, it's wank to be suffering this illness at his age.

A guy wrote to Fletch and linked him to our threads about him earlier I think. Fletch replied too.

So what Fergie said about the pitch been unplayable for him was a smokescreen?

Hopefully this resolves the problem for him and he can get back to a normal lifestyle. At the same time, as harsh as it is, I hope we've seen the last of him in our first team. We shouldn't waste a squad place on him and he is clearly out of his depth at this level now, I can't see it getting any better (playing wise) for him.

Hope everything works out for him and clearly his health is more important than anything else.

I do think we have seen the last of him as a footballer though. I think Darren and United were told by doctors that surgery would spell the end of his career and that's why they took the route of trying to manage his condition instead of just getting the surgery done in the first place. Unless this is some new experimental surgery that could go either way, I really can't see him coming back.

I don't agree with Man Utd fans about Fletcher's quality as a player but I have nothing but admiration for him as a dedicated pro. I think it's probably time for him to get his health on track and move to a coaching role.

I agree about the coaching role thing, I reckon that will happen. Ive felt for a while we might hear news like this. Having known someone with the same condition and seen first hand its impact im not sure any operation can "fix" it.

Id be interested to hear sammsky's opinion....

As I have previously said, I suffered from collitis and had to have surgery. Which involved removing all of my large bowel and having a bag on my lower abdomen to get rid of waste. To my knowledge this is the only available surgery. Before surgery I played football a lot, but never tried it with the bag as I was scared of leakages ect. I have however been told of sportsman who have continued with a bag. The next stage, which I'm about a month down the line in the recovery is to have couple of operations to reconstruct the remaining small bowel into a bladder type reservoir for waste to be stored inside and past out through the backside. This doesn't come without its problems though, control issues tiredness from not having the large bowel to Absorb the correct substances.

I'm no expert but sadly from my experience I think it will be very hard for Fletch to perform at this level ever again.

The important thing though is his health and living a good standard of life.

Agh, that is so gutting for Fletch. Poor cnut - just at the height of a career marred by continual hatred through his development (widely speculative) he cops this shit.

Get well soon mate. We're all backing you.

I honestly think it's time to dip the market for a similar player. Even if we want to leave him on the books for whatever reason.

I also have never agreed with wild claims at times rating him as one of the best midfielders in the world etc. I know his limitations, although I also know his value over the years. Your team could have done with a couple like him in recent years I reckon.

you're a prick

you've never had a good word to say about Fletcher so why dont you feck off out of this thread if you havent got a decent thing to say

feck off blunder. You're the prick here, I posted when it was first announced that I was gutted for Fletcher and my question is a genuine one regarding the insurance.

Why would anyone give a shit whether or when we can claim insurance?

Is that what the modern fan is interested in?

fecking retarded question.

Tomorrows hot topic "what are the terms of the Public Liability Insurance on OT."
