Daniel Sturridge | Transfer Talk

Agreed. It'll be interesting to see what kinda person he is... Didn't Ashley Young take reduced wages to stay at United?
He did last year, yes. Was on £120K/week before that, don't know how much he's on right now but I'd guess around £80K/week.

I think Sturridge would extend on such terms as well, he seems like a down to earth and reasonable person based on his social media and appearances in public. If he leaves, it's for a midtable club and he has to take a paycut regardless, and there would still be questions about his injury status. If he stays at Liverpool, he'd still at an ambitious club and if he agrees on some sort of pay-as-you-play contract, he'd earn more than enough because he's almost a guaranteed starter for us when fit.

Before I ever seen him play I heard commentators saying his name and I thought he's some white Croatian man, this Starić, shame he's so injury prone, he would return 20 league goals every season easily. I think we have a similar player in making in Martial who has a chance to be even better and hopefully not injury prone, I'd like to see Martial work on his shooting from distance, hasnt showed it yet but why would you do that if you can make your work into the box like him.. for 25 or so I'd try to make a bid for Lacazette but proly he would cost 10 on top of that as a starting price but if they dont make champions league...

So is everything just taking this for granted then?

I find it very hard to believe. Also no way 'it would be for the best'. Maybe once we have one or two strikers of his calibre, we can move him on.

Hargreaves isn't the same. He wasn't mentally fragile like Sturridge.

I really hate how people state these things as if they were fact.

You are the footballing equivalent of people who believe everything they read in the tabloids and then have "informed discussions" with helpless normal people about the state of various celebrities.

I'm not that at all. I base it on the fact how much he's out, how he reacts to a tackle and what his own current manager and previous captain have said about him. These aren't words taken out of context. They were words directly aimed at his injuries and that he needs to be tougher. It's a matter of mental strength, not physical.

Sturridge would be worth the punt at a lower price, but if you're paying 25 million quid, regardless of their weekly wage (which could be structured around match weeks available, appearance bonus, etc.) said player has to be relied upon to be called upon.

Also, Sturridge is most effective through the middle or at least as a focal point with the freedom to attack through the middle and pop up in space. As someone said above/previously, a Sturridge and Martial duo, with freedom to roam around would cause panic at the back for opposing teams.

But for 25 million, no.

He's Saha 2.0

Basically an amazing striker who has it all (pace, power, athleticism, finishing, playmaking, good in the air etc) but can't stay fit.

He is another Dyer/Anderton/Hargreaves.

He will never be fit for any length of time.

He will get one or two decent moves to other decent sized clubs before he is 30, before he ends up bleeding the likes of Hull and and Forest of funds they can ill afford as he sits on the treatment table to his mid 30's before announcing his retirement.

At that point everybody in the universe will, say something along the lines of "I thought he retired years ago".

His current manager is going the exact opposite route with him now though. He won't play him even when he's declared himself fit until he can train longer. So maybe he's had a re-think on that, eh.

I really don't give two hoots what Gerrard thinks. It's very easy for him to say "he just needs convincing" to someone else when he's not had anything like the injury record Sturridge has.

Didnt Klopp say something that indirectly meant that sturridge has to be more brave or something? Something like "you should know the difference between serious pain and not serious pain"

As Snow said, I dont think Hargreaves ever did that

You might not care what Gerrard thinks but his comments came after Klopp's comments and basically reiterated what Klopp said. I can also tell a bit from experience because I'm myself like how Sturridge is described or at least was.

Cheeky bid. Pay-as-you-play contract.

Haha that'd be excellent, but didn't he get a huge contract after they won the ''nearly champions'' trophy? Doubt he'd accept that.

Daniel Sturridge set to quit Liverpool as striker fumes over injury criticism putting Arsenal and Manchester United on alert

Daniel Sturridge has grown frustrated following criticism over his injuries
The striker believes he would benefit from a clean break in the summer
Arsenal and Manchester United will be in the market for a new striker
Sturridge returned to training on Thursday as he closes in on a return

Pretty sure Rodgers stated that Liverpool couldn't rely on him

And his record has declined badly since then

Sturridge is going to have a very difficult choice on his next contract. Until he can prove he's reliable for a couple of seasons on the trot, no top club will buy him and on the kind of wages he expects.

So, he can take a less favourable contract with a much lower base rate, with appearance fee's to bolster it back up to his current wage level. or he can take an early retirement to the MLS/china/dubai and get paid his current wages in a pisstake league.

That said, id have him without a doubt on a cheaper guaranteed contract until he's worth a proper extension.

Do not want. Waste of space and money.

The bloke is a country mile from my expectations of a United player.

If he leaves Liverpool it's the beginning of the end for him and not long before he turns out for QPR or Palace...

We need more character and personality in the squad. Not less.

I like how its made out that it is his decision because of criticism he's received. Been made clear pretty much all window that Sturridge is available for the right price... good luck finding someone willing to fork out for him.

In summer will either be off to China or Stoke at a stretch if Liverpool accepts a lower transfer fee, Sturridge accepts a lower wage and Liverpool are willing to sell to a rival. None of which'll happen.

Great striker when fit but can't be relied on.

If you had a clean break we'd show you some sympathy, you big wuss. D'aww, does Daniel have a boo boo? Poor you.

I'm not the biggest fan of his attitude at times either. Sometimes it looked like he was competing with Suarez rather than playing with him and I've seen him throw a strop once or twice when the ball hasn't come his way. He can also be incredibly selfish in front of goal and has no problem throwing himself to the ground.

Unless he can get fit again and play well for the rest of this season his future is fairly bleak. It's a shame because he really is a great goal scorer.

I'm assuming Darren Anderton, Owen Hargreaves, Kieran Dyer, and Abu Diaby are also on our shortlist. Luckily we already have Phil Jones.

I'd give Liverpool £50m for him to never dance again

My God this made me laugh more than it really should  Starić!

When fit he's one of the best in the league. Wonder where he'll end up. Sounds like both he and Liverpool wouldn't mind separating ties, but he won't get similar money elsewhere

He'll be sold to DingDong FC for 30 million before the end of the month.

I wonder have all the injuries given him some pretty serious anxiety problems? Anxiety can be a real problem, especially if you won't admit it, or treat it properly, especially in something like the football world where most seem to just say, "oh, get over it, whatevs".

20mil and a pay-as-you-play contract I'd definitely say yes it's worth a gamble, what's the worst that can happen? we lose 20mil? in the grand scheme of things and the way the transfer market is and how we spend now big whoop..

Fergie said most of saha's problems were in his head, i think its true for sturridge too.
Its in his head and these "injuries" are more difficult yo cure. I would not take him here, even for free.

I wonder if he's doing that fecking silly dance now, the twat! Used to annoy the feck out of me!
