Comprehension is clearly not your best skill.

Fans don't rate Daniel James - "You just want 22 Messi's in the squad!"
Yours‘ neither.
With we are not in 2008 I meant that Park was fine to play alongside Carrick and Scholes. He wouldn’t have the same effect in our current team. I am sure if we buy Grealish and Sancho then James will have no place in our squad. But this is not happening. Better to be realistic than spoilt.

Absolutely his fault. Or at least it will be if we think he's fine as a squad player as opposed to the likes of McFred who are actually the sort of standard we should be looking for from squad players. IMO anyway. James is a wide player who is as puny as Mata and can't dribble. He has his moments every once in awhile which is fine for a 4th place challenging team but that's not what we aspire to be.

No, we can talk now. I believe the ambition is to the reach the top. If it's not we can stop right here. But if it is, then James is not good enough as a squad option as he doesn't have the quality which is what is needed to win the PL title unless you have an unbelievably good manager which we don't. If we're judging everything by where we are, then feck it, Lindelof, Fred, and Mctominay are also of the required standard and let's just accept that we aren't interested in achieving much.

Do you mean them as squad players? If so, most big clubs in the world would love to have them as squad players. Similarly James can turn out to be quite a good squad player. He has improved a lot in pressing and already gets into good positions, and if he can start picking better passes he can turn out to be a good player to include in some matches to play a tactical role.

That cross with his left foot at the end when all he had to do was play it along the ground is him in a nutshell. Plus the opposition weren’t great.
It was a similar position to Rooney’s pass to Ronaldo away at arsenal in champs league 2009, when we broke in the counter. Only Rooney put it on a plate for Ronaldo.

He has a terrible first touch for his age, championship at best and he has one foot and it isn’t that good.

he is NOT and NEVER will be a United player. Good luck wherever he goes.
And yet he has PLAYED and PLAYS for United.

Must be annoying…

Good squad player. Maybe not the right player for us in a lot of games - but he’s shown he can have a good career in the PL - so no need to be so dismissive of him.

Anyone claiming he’s Championship level at best don’t know what they’re talking about. He’s had two really good matches against international sides that are much stronger than Championship teams. As others have said, if he were to leave you’d expect Leeds would be after him and get a lot of use out of him.

He is a fine PL player. The thing is that he will never be more than a squad player for us. But what should we do? Sell him now that his value is higher than what we spent for him, or wait 2 more years until he is 100% deadwood with no value (since we wont use him after we upgrade) and try to protect his value by entering the Phil Jones vicious cycle of enternal renewals?

Depends what you mean by "good squad player"

James is currently our 3rd choice winger. Usually plays on the right but also plays on the left. His best traits are his attitude and his pace. He has an average shot and cross and is terrible at anything physical or aerial. He works hard and is generally liked in the dressing room.

To me that is not good enough at a club that wants to be challenging for big trophies. Others clearly disagree.

Those three are fine as squad players. Personally I don't think James is. He is just fast. It just feels like people think that if he becomes a good player then he'll be a good player rather than it being based on his ability, which from what I can see, is very little.

Better to be smart and not stupid.

The guy just runs (a lot) and he stumbles in the first defender that gets in his way or he goes out with the ball or he makes a dreadful cross like the one in his last game for Wales.

The only thing that makes him a good squad player, is because he realises he's not up to the level required and won't complain about game time or salary. So basically another Jones minus the injuries

Good player. I suspect he can put up decent numbers if he plays though a season for a mid table side. Hopefully we can get €30m out of someone for him.

Yeah I am with you that he doesn't do enough at the moment. Though I think there are just little parts of his game like picking the right crucial passes or shots. Sometimes players never get it but sometimes they do. He has definitely got some other qualities though

I am just using this post as an example as there are plenty making similar comments about yesterdays game. It seems that when it comes to United players we love to obsess over the negatives, particularly when they reinforce a popular narrative. The cross in question was awful no doubt but for context it was in the 80th minute of a game in which Dan had run his legs off in baking heat just 4 days after doing the same against Switzerland so an error is understandable. In yesterdays game Dan was easily one of the best players on the pitch and if you watched the whole thing you will have seen him put in several pinpoint crosses which for some reason nobody seems to want to mention in this thread. If you doubt me then check the official stats which credit Dan with creating 4 goal scoring opportunities and again for reference Bale was credited with 5 which is apparently a record for the Euros so Dan is in pretty good company.

I will not and never have argued that Dan is the answer to all of our prayers, despite being Welsh and therefore loving him like a son, but I do think he is consistently spoken about with massive disrespect in this forum. I do believe that he will move on and his level is probably at a club like Southampton or Palace where he would be a regular starter, I think his natural attributes are best suited to a team playing on the back foot and looking to hit on the break and that should not be how United play. I do however think he still has a role for the coming season, we don't know what transfer activity will take place but right now his versatility makes him a decent squad option as we continue to improve the overall level of the squad but sure in another year or two we will hopefully have improved to the point where we have better options even for the bench and he can move on.

Someone like Choupo-Moting can be a squad player for PSG and Bayern, but James can’t be a squad player for us.
It‘s not just pace, he works hard and presses.
People are acting as if we spent around 50 mil to get him.
He was bought for little money to be a bench player. You need people who will always work hard when needed instead of sulking and who at the same time won’t complain with limited game time.

Was actually surprised how good crosses he puts in with his left foot, including his assist for Elanga in our last PL game.

Lindelöf already has a contract with Manchester United
Lindelof is quite clearly not a top class CB. Why do you think the vast majority of United fans (as well as the United top brass, given the slew of reports linking us to several CBs) are clamouring for us to sign a replacement? Should we judge him based on one good game in an international tournament for Sweden or off the 100+ appearances over four years for us?

I haven't made an argument for or against Lindelöf at all. I just wrote something that did happen, and people's heartrate increases.

Ah fair enough, for some reason I thought you suggested he was a top class CB. My apologies!

Opposition Weren't great? - it was the Turkish national team!! As fans where do we get off judging players like this. He’s a young lad who’s had 2 tough seasons at UTD. His father recently passed he’s been in and out of a UTD team. He gives everything whilst on the pitch. We should be happy for him playing for his national team and doing himself his club and his country proud. Instead we are slagging him. Whether he is good enough for Utd or not - he’s doing his best. So why don’t you stick your negativity up your settee bound arse and just have a coke and a smile and shut the feck up. For inconsistent players - see Pogba, £90mil I believe.

James is not that young in footballing terms. He's 24 in a few months. There's an insane number of players his age who are not viewed as kids anymore and they are at advanced stages in their development and much more naturally gifted

Also, his father passed two years ago. Can we stop making that an excuse? People die all the time, he's not the only PL player to have had a bereavement in the last few years.

i always find it funny that people always believe players of superior quality to the likes of James or Lingard are ever happy or content as back up.

Couldn’t agree more with you in terms of the negative comments. It’s like some posters get their daily kicks by hating on a United player.

Some of the posts are disgusting from so-called fans. You can think someone is not good enough without calling them a bum or such. Pathetic.
