Dalot or AWB?

Aaron wan bissaka and it’s even close. We need to upgrade on dalot.

Need to upgrade both. Neither are nowhere near good enough when you look around Europe right now at the bigger clubs.

AWB is putting himself about and putting a shift in but nothing comes from him on the ball.

With who?

Where are all these right backs hiding?

You'd struggle to name 10 RBs in the world better than AWB at the moment and most are extremely difficult/impossible to obtain.

I think you need to calm down there mate. Jesus Christ. Hahaha.

He's putting a real shift in and grafting but we already know he's not a footballer. He's a tackler and that's about it.

Don't you want to see someone who can actually cross a ball and make chances?

He's not a real footballer?

His passing has improved, he's making some great attacking runs and he's putting in some good crosses.

People see the likes of Alexander-Arnold, Cancelo and Reece James and think that we can't compete without a RB getting loads of assists.

Barca are walking La Liga playing Kounde and Araujo at right back and they've had 3 assists between them all season.

I'd rather have a RB who can shut down an elite left winger than a RB who is good going forward but gets destroyed defensively.

I don't really see who is out there for us who we could get who's elite going both ways.

I'd definitely start him over Dalot at the moment but I think you need to calm down with hype train a bit mate. He still hasn't got a final ball in him. Strong defensively but we need better there long term.

Watched Bayern last night and that's the level we are aiming for. He wouldn't get near their team. Neither would Dalot.

Sell Dalot and buy Frimpong. Frimpong and AWB can duke it out, with Frimpong likely winning out as he offers a hell of a lot going forward and in the build up. AWB is a useful option to have, though.

Stanisic has averaged a lower expected assists per 90 mins than Wan-Bissaka has over the last 2 seasons.

There are few RBs who are offering assists that can defend properly, very few.

I'd argue it's good we have capable back-ups and competition

I think having a consistent performing right back would be more desirable. We don't rotate based on giving either of them a rest. We tend to rotate because one is out of form.

Indeed but it could be worse - we could be stuck with either of them like before the WC. Luckily, Dalot was motoring then but imagine if he was on the same form as he is now.

You're easily pleased.

He's been England's 5th / 6th choice RB for a reason. None of the big clubs would want him. Not because he can't defend but because he isn't a top footballer.

Dalot has definitely dropped off massively though I'm in agreement there.

Personally I'd like to see someone who can consistently cross the ball well playing there as well as being able to defend. Can you imagine Reece James in this team or somebody like that? We'd improve ten fold.

Reece James is the best right back in the world.

I really don't think there's much difference between Kyle Walker and AWB when he's at his best, Walker has just had the benefit of playing for the greatest coach ever with much better players, whereas Wan-Bissaka has had Lindelof next to him, Mctominay and Fred in midfield and Dan Janes or Lingard ahead of him for most of his United career.

If there was another Reece James out there then of course we should be interested but I don't see who that is at the moment.

Again you're being incredibly kind to AWB there. Kyle Walker has been a top top player for years and performed consistently at the highest level.

And Walker's had arguably the best coach ever to polish him up from the very error prone RB he was at Spurs along with Kompany/Stones next to him and Fernandinho/Rodri, David Silva/De Bruyne/Gundogan to pass to in midfield with Sane/Sterling/Mahrez/Foden ahead of him.

AWB's starting to have the equivalent of that now with Ten Hag coaching him, Varane next to him and Eriksen/Casemiro to pass to in midfield and we're starting to see the benefits of that now.

Starting to get annoying that Dalot keeps getting the nod despite repeatedly having to be hooked off at half time and us repeatedly looking much better when Bissaka comes on.

I think we were all impressed by Dalots early form this season, but the improvement we’ve seen from AWB makes me question how much of that initial improvement is really just based on the system ten hag has implemented.

I’ll be happy with whatever ten Hag decides to do with this position, but I suspect we will want to implement a more possession based system next season and an attacking right back who is excellent at carrying the ball would be a necessary upgrade. It would provide an excellent attacking outlet for a ball playing GK and would finally provide Antony with the wing partner he’s used to having.

Between the two of them, I think it looks as though AWB is finishing the season stronger and I think it will be hard for ten Hag to sell a RB who has the ability to shut down a wing in the way AWB can. That’s an incredible tactical option to throw away.

Hes been better recently but its a different match at that point. Its similar with wingers - one plays 60 mins and does lots of grunt work to wear a team down then Garnacho comes on for 30 mins with fresh legs and tears them to pieces. You wouldn't get the same effect starting Garnacho.
Ten Hag makes use of subs and has brought on Malacia pretty frequently to freshen things up too. I presume the main reason Dalot started tonight was because he started against Liverpool and Wan Bisakka will be back in at the weekend. But i wouldn't be surprised to see Dalot get 20 mins either. I'd nearly expect it.
There aren't that many positions where players are nailed on starters that get 90 mins every week.

The big issue for Dalot is, if he doesn't pick up performance soon, his good period will be the outlier and we'll be seeing him reverting back to his mean.

Crazy season for him, but we can't flip flop as much as he has - we need consistency and guaranteed output, as you demand from a quality fullback.

Is there a chance Ethan Laird gets thrown into the mix next season?

He’s played pretty consistently for QPR this season which was what he needed.

I think he could be a good option and he is very talented. Can play either side. I’m sure he’ll be in the conversation as he’s rated highly by the club.

We've had 3 games recently where Dalot has had to be removed early due to the severe threat of him causing us to lose. That's not the same as freshening things up. He shouldn't be starting any game at this point until Bissaka either has a terrible game, needs a rest, or gets injured.

At this point now if Ten Hag keeps starting him you start to worry because it would mean he's just ignoring what's happening on the pitch.

For easy teams where we gonna have control of the ball, play Dalot and Shaw.

For teams that will keep the ball better than us and punish us with their fast tricky pacy wingers, like Arsenal and Liverpool, play AWB and Malacia.

It's good to have options.

Dalot at the start of the season , then he got Injured after World cup and he's dropped off a bit, . AWB is leading the case now, it may change again.

AWB as backup. The Carabao cup final opened my eyes. St. Maximin had me nervous. The nervousness disappeared once AWB came on. Even if Dalot wasn't struggling, I would still say we should upgrade Dalot, and keep AWB as backup.

If only there was a way to morph them into one footballer that has the best of both of their skillset combined.

That way we would only have to sell one player instead of both of them for not being good enough.

Judging from Malacias performances I actually think that ten hag keeping 1 defensive & 1 attacking FB is realistic.
Keep AWB as our defensive choice & see if we can get a better attacker than Dalot.

Yes. I think they are both okay but I prefer AWB most of the time. Their form goes up and down of course. I would agree that we keep AWB as competition, rotation / tactical option and look to upgrade Dalot with a primarily attacking LB.

Again, I say keep them both and rotate. Both of them are young and can still develop. The position is well covered and not a priority. We also have Laird, Malacia and Lindelof who can play there.

However, agree with most posters here that if we really want to upgrade this position I think we should keep AWB as back up and sign a world class RB.
