Dallas Cup

Are the Norway and Belgium U19's playing this break ? Might be only friendlies and we got dispensation maybe ? Dunno.

The U17's are playing in competitive qualifiers. Good point though.

How are Daelhi and Januzaj not with their respective u-19 national teams?

I seem to remember something about Daelhi taking a break from international teams this year, but didn't he play for the Norwegian u-21s recently enough?

I can't seem to recall Januzaj missing much football due to playing with Belgium underage though, anyone know the story there? I'd be tempted to say it's because he plays outside Belgium were it not for the fact that Perreira still gets called up regularly.

Quite glad that he's not away to be honest. More time at the club. Plus if he doesn't play for Belgium perhaps he'll qualify for England via the residency rule!

Pretty exciting squad, look forward to seeing us against a team from another country with a somewhat different way of playing. The pitch is likely to be huge at the Cotton Bowl, so there should be tons of space, which should lend itself well to our passing game.

Interesting that Joyce is coaching the team instead of McGuinness, even though most of these guys are not with the U21 team. I might have to take back what I said about expansive passing moves!

Dæhli wasn't called up by Norway due to his prioritizing the Dallas Cup.

I wonder how many of the other teams they'll face pay their players. I know that the Dallas Texans don't and I very highly doubt the LA Galaxy team will either.

Not to mention we buy these players, it's funny to me to think about them playing against someone like Nick Powell if he would've went, he cost 4mil and probably makes 5k or more a week. Like I said I almost played in this tournament when I was younger, it would have been crazy playing against someone like that.

Yeah, though he may have his future on the fast track with his father's influence and help, as opposed to working construction. His prospects outside of playing football are probably much better than in the game as well, thanks to that.

I think a 15/16 year old would think they know they're playing at high stakes, but not in the same way a grown man does when he looks back on what he could have done at that age, as you often hear former players say.

No, he went to a top private school (Manchester Grammar) and had a place to study at a red brick University. In all honesty he is almost certainly a bright lad unlike your usual footballer and realised he wasn't really talented enough to make a lot of money playing pro football.

Couldn't find anything about a Belgium U19's game this week so that could be one reason. However on their website they don't have a profile for him in the underage section. Might be that he wasn't in the most recent squads, however can anyone remember him playing in any youth internationals since he signed?

So is he not playing with any age groups below u21s this year? Or was this just a once off because he felt the Dallas Cup would be more beneficial to his development?

Has he opted out? After all, Pereira plays regularly, and Januzaj is much further ahead in his development.

Pereira plays for the U17's. Januzaj played for that team too IIRC but is too old now probably.

Dunno, if he's been called up for the U19's yet. Might have opted out this time like Daehli.

I haven't heard about if he has. Januzaj was also injured quite a bit last year so those could also be reasons he may not have been playing for Belgium. We may have to wait until the Elite Group Qualification stages in May to see.

Just a one off due to the Dallas thingy, he'll be in the next u19 squad if available.

As far as Januzaj is concerned, I found an article from a few years ago (just before his transfer to United) in which they mention he refuses playing for the U16. The U16 manager said he'd been called up twice, and twice refused without giving any explanation. The coach said he didn't really seem interested in the youth internationals.

While this is already from a few years back, it could be the same reason why he hasn't played for Belgium U17 or U19 levels since.

“Adnan Januzaj a refusé l’équipe nationale belge U16”

(01/03/2011)

Interesting....

Might be considering switching to Albania later possibly ?

Would be a strange choice, given the fact that the Albanian football team doesn't really have any chance to participate in European or World Cups. Also, he's born and raised in Belgium. And even if he had plans in that direction, he could still play for Belgium's youth teams without any problems.

As far as I know, he has a dubble Belgium-Kosovo nationality. I don't even know if he's eligible to play for Albania. Doesn't Kosovo have its own national football team now?

Yeah, think they do. No idea about where all he is eligible though.

Think we'll see something like this for the Dallas cup -

----------Gollini
Hendrie-Fornasier-James-Blackett
-------Charni-Pearson
-Daehli-Januzaj-Van Velzen
--------Wilson

Can James play CB? I hope Hendrie doesn't play RB, preferably I'd have Grimshaw RB and Ioannou partnering Fornasier, although Ioannou hasn't been starting regularly for the academy recently so I'm not sure what's up with him.

Other than that I'd probably agree. Not a big fan of Van Velzen so I'd probably prefer to see Barmby start out there, however I agree it's more likely Van Velzen will play due to his experience and lack of U21 match time.

Been injured and just coming back to form, I believe.

I would be astounded if James played at centre-half...never played there before in his career so would expect Fornasier/Grimshaw to be the preferred partnership....with Ioannou as an additional option.

Dunno, why i thought James can play CB. He probably goes to Fullback then and we'll see something like Goo said above with Gollini ahead of Sutherland.

Grimshaw might be a weak link in central defence though from what i have seen so of him so far. Still young too. Will be interesting.

Can someone else in the squad play there ?

Yeah it's good. I need to see if this will work on the ps3 as ill be playing the stars micromillions later.

Well it doesn't work on the ps3 but it does on the iPad so that's good.

Fulham beat Coritiba 3-1.

Good result for them.

Yeah, wish it was. :( Weird timing for me so might have to miss it too. The Fulham game is recorded on youtube so hopefully this too.

Our game seems to be the main draw so is scheduled in the evening there after the Opening ceremony.

Think I saw KICKTV say a recording of every game will be available on Youtube as the streams will be blacked out for people living in the US.

Excellent. Was planning on staying up for this but now I won't have to.

I can't find the match. I know it hasn't started yet but I thought it would have been up by now.
