Just received confirmation of this year's schedule:

Dr Pepper Dallas Cup has announced that the prestigious Gordon Jago Super Group brackets are set. Group play starts on Sunday, March 24, and runs through Wednesday, March 27 at the Cotton Bowl Stadium, CLSC Richland College Complex, and The University of Texas-Dallas Complex.

The international flavor of Dallas Cup is on full display with three continents represented in each group while Group B features two previous super group champions in Coritiba FC and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The first place team from each group, along with the second place team with the most points, will advance to the semi-finals which take place at the Cotton Bowl on Friday March 29. The semifinal winners advance to the Dallas Cup Championship game on Sunday, March 31.

Bracket A

Manchester United (England)
Kashiwa Reysol (Japan)
Club America (Mexico)
Dallas Texans (USA)

Bracket B

Coritiba FC (Brazil)
Fulham FC (England)
Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany)
LA Galaxy Academy (USA)

Bracket C

Fluminense (Brazil)
Aalborg BK (Denmark)
Tigres (Mexico)
Toronto FC (Canada)

We got to the final last year so will be interesting to see what squad we take out there.

Is this for 18s?

I almost got to play in this tournament once but our team decided to go to another instead, though our team would've been in the bracket below the top one.

Has a squad been announced for this yet ?

Is this for 18s?

U19s (players born 1/8/93 and later).

So of the regular U21 squad, McGinty, James, Blackett, McCullough, Fornasier, Hendrie, Ekangamene, Van Velzen, Januzaj and Lawrence are eligible, presumably joined by several of the U18s and maybe a few loan/guest players (can include up to five, so maybe some of the Desportivo Brasil kids).

Will this tournament be televised?

Times are probably Dallas local, which would be 5 hours behind England (until the end of the month), I believe.

2006 Dallas cup squad with Rene Meulensteen.

Can you recognize all of them ?

Can't seem to recognize some.

I think I see Jonny Evans. Oh and he's next to Gibson.

Can spot Shawcross, Evans, Gibson, Campbell and Cleverley(?) I think. Who's the other one?

I see shawcross next to Evans and Campbell at the end. Where's Cleverley?

L-R: Mullan, Gray, Shawcross (back), Lea, Rose, Evans, Gibson, Rossi, Marsh, Burns, Lee, R Jones, Hewson, Barnes, Zieler, Crockett (I think), (Meulensteen), Campbell

Evans is now a regular first teamer, Gibson, Campbell and Shawcross have ended up as decent Premier League players and Rossi and Zieler have found success abroad. The likes of Gray, Lee, Rose and Jones have had decent careers in the lower leagues, while most of the other lads have teetered around non league for a while. Interesting to read that both Marsh and Burns had spells with FC United too.

All in all that is a decent success rate for a youth team I'd say, and you'd bet that the current team has enough talent to produce something similar.

That's pretty impressive PS18.

Dallas Cup Squad: Ron-Robert Zieler, Lee Crockett, Jonny Evans, Phil Marsh, Gerard Piqué, Kieran Lee, David Gray, Ryan Shawcross, Michael Lea, Danny Rose, Ritchie Jones, Sam Hewson, Jamie Mullan, Darron Gibson, Michael Barnes, Giuseppe Rossi, Fraizer Campbell, Aaron Burns.

This was the squad according to the thread i just found of the time.

Ron-Robert Zieler - Really kicked on since leaving United. Regular in Bundesliga and a Full German International at 23/24 now.

Lee Crockett - Left for Boston United. Then went to Corby town. Then to Rothwell FC and last i can spot him is at Aylesbury United in 2010.

Jonny Evans - We all know. The only one in the United first team.

Phil marsh - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Marsh At Guiseley after a number of clubs since leaving.

Gerard Pique - Dunno, if he went to Dallas eventually but we all know how he has progressed.

Kieran Lee - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kieran_Lee At Sheff wed after a decent spell at Oldham in league 1. Remember him scoring a winner for us in the league cup a few years ago as a teenager.

David Gray - At Stevenage in League 1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Gray_(footballer_born_1988)

Ryan Shawcross - England International and a good PL defender.

Michael Lea
- At Colwyn Bay in Conference North. Was apparently their POTY last season.

Danny Rose
- At Aldershot in League 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Rose_(footballer_born_1988)

Ritchie Jones - England Youth International at all levels and captained at many levels including a European u19 final team in 2005.made 5 appearances for United. Currently at Rochdale in league 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ritchie_Jones#cite_note-18 Really surprised how far below he has fallen.

Sam Hewson - At Fram in Iceland apparently after Playing in the conference for a couple of seasons. https://www.redcafe.net/f40/sam-hewson-169707/ Was rated at one point by some United fans.

Jamie Mullan - At Conference National Alfreton town last season. Signed for Welsh Champions New Saints this season.

Darron Gibson - Doing well for Everton and a full international. Established PL player.

Michael Barnes - https://www.redcafe.net/f6/michael-barnes-vs-giggs-reserve-145640/ At Non league AFC Flyde in 2011 last i can find.

Giussepe Rossi - Italy International. Pity he picked up a serious injury though and is still to recover from that while has had to move to Fiorentina instead of Barcelona.

Frazier Campbell - Sold for a decent amount from united and got a England cap. Should have been established in the PL by now but like Rossi serious injuries hampered him. Sold to Cardiff and scoring a bit there though.

Aaron Burns - Had a spell somewhat famously at FCUOM. Currently at Ashton united.

Cheers for that gents. Brings back some memories.

Not to jump on one player in all this but Tunnicliffe springs to mind when i see Hewson and his career to date.

Similar types, id nearly say Hewson had a touch more natural ability whereas Tunnicliffe a bit more desire.

Michael Barnes, player of the tournament for us when we won the youths Champions league a few years back. mental in a way.

Very good uppdate on the players, thanks for that. This group was before I started following the youth, will be interesting too see how the current group has done in few years time.

Interesting. All these players once had hopes of playing for Manchester United, and now most are not good enough to play league football.

What an all or nothing race it is! When the starting pistol sounds they're all level - at the finish line the winners take chauffeured limos to posh houses and 50 grand a week; the losers take a taxi to a non-league club and a bare living.

True. David Gill's son didn't think so though.

I wonder does a typical 15/16 year old in the Academy appreciate how high the stakes are - that he's playing for his life.

Yeah, though he may have his future on the fast track with his father's influence and help, as opposed to working construction. His prospects outside of playing football are probably much better than in the game as well, thanks to that.

I think a 15/16 year old would think they know they're playing at high stakes, but not in the same way a grown man does when he looks back on what he could have done at that age, as you often hear former players say.

And that's probably the most successful crop we've had over the last 20/25 years at least (outside the obvious one).

Our opening game Vs Club America is going to be streamed live on the Dallas Cup website for anyone who is interested.

And that's probably the most successful crop we've had over the last 20/25 years at least (outside the obvious one).

In terms of average success ? Or in terms of most players playing at the top level ?

Also, I think the last youth cup winning team would have better careers on average. And the Bardsley/Simpson/Richardson/David Jones/Spector/Ebanks Blake class wasn't bad either. Rossi largely played with them IIRC.

The period before this 2006 and that batch was pretty lean though IIRC. Kenny Cooper and Company.....

Apparently we're taking a younger squad than last year and more players too. Anyone know who's going or when we're likely to find out?

Probably tomorrow (Friday) when the squad flies out.

Hopefully it gets posted on our website. Would like to see Januzaj play with his younger comrades Daehli, Pearson and co.

Powell is still eligible too, i think. Away with England u19 though. Lawrence might not go with International commitments either.

Andreas Pereira and Joao Pereira are also playing Internationals so not sure how that works.

Here is the squad with roster underneath.

Squad: Pierluigi Gollini, Jonny Sutherland; Liam Grimshaw, Nicholas Ioannou, Michele Fornasier, Reece James, Tyler Blackett; Charni Ekangamene, Luke Hendrie, Ben Pearson, Joe Rothwell, Jack Rudge, James Weir, Josh Harrop, Mats Daehli, Adnan Januzaj; Jack Barmby, Gyliano van Velzen, James Wison.

Good squad that, they should perform some good football.

Will Keane also traveling with the team to continue his rehab.

Lawrence and the 2 Perreira's miss out with International duty, i guess. Maybe Powell too though not sure if he would have gone anyway?

Good squad. Pretty much the Youth cup team with 3/4 additions.

How are Daelhi and Januzaj not with their respective u-19 national teams?

I seem to remember something about Daelhi taking a break from international teams this year, but didn't he play for the Norwegian u-21s recently enough?

I can't seem to recall Januzaj missing much football due to playing with Belgium underage though, anyone know the story there? I'd be tempted to say it's because he plays outside Belgium were it not for the fact that Perreira still gets called up regularly.
