The Cowboys are still shit. Great cheerleaders though.

Events have conspired against us :smirk:
Things are looking much better now that our linebackers have stopped dying ;)

Was Vince Lombardi a coach? and if so, what team?

Yes

Green Bay Packers coach 1959-1967 (won 5 championships including the first two AFL/NFL titles, later dubbed "the Super Bowl"). Retired in 1968, but remained General Manager for the season. Then he stated he missed coaching and took over the Washington Redskins for one year (1969) before his untimely death just before the start of the 1970 season. He was an assistant coach with the NY Giants before taking over Green Bay.

Sidenote: The NY Giants also had an assistant coach during the 50s that would go on to make a huge mark in the NFL.

Such a historic and legendary club that it has it's own thread. And tonight, another historic event takes place on Monday Night Football. Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin will be inducted in the Ring of Honor, a Dallas Cowboy's Hall of Fame if you will. It's sacred ground, although I'm still curious as to why Drew Pearson's name is missing. Unfortunately, ABC will be airing the Hurricane Katrina telethon during half-time, so viewers will not be able to witness this event. However, I figure NFL Network and/or ESPNews will carry the inductions.

Triplets enter Ring of Honor

Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor

Emmitt Smith (22), Michael Irvin (88) and Troy Aikman (8) were the core of the Cowboys in the early '90s.

FAO fans outside the US, what American sporting club is the most popular in your area? Seems most know of the NY Yankees and Chicago Bulls and LA Lakers. But are the Cowboys more known than those clubs? I've heard the Cowboys blue star is recognized as a universal symbol (like McDonald's arches, Nike swoosh, and Manchester United crest).

and here was me hoping their introduction to the ring of honor would keep that idiot irvin off monday night countdown.

Bastard Cowboys. After cheating their way to victory against my beloved Chargers they cost my this week in my Fantasy League. I go to bed with the Redskins completely unable to move the ball and when I wake up, what do I find?

Santana Moss (who I was playing) scores 2 TD's in less than 2 mins to steal victory from my grasp. Not just 2 TD's, but a shitload of yards to take away my lead

At least the Cowboys lost as well, bastards.

How did Dallas cheat their way to a win against San Diego?

Last night was frustrating. Washington had nothing all game but got a few lucky plays and a horrible referee call to aid them. That gripe is that phantom hold call on Flozell on the play that Keyshawn caught a pass for a first down inside the Redskins territory with about 3 minutes to play. That was a defining play. Instead of 1st and 10 inside the WAS 40 and driving towards a score to give Dallas a 9+ point lead or running out the clock, the ref alters the game by calling a hold on Adams, which clearly wasn't an infraction, and penalizes Dallas to 3rd and like 18. They end up punting and giving Washington the ball, to which a couple plays later Brunell hits Moss for the winner.

And also...the play calling after Thompson's return to midfield. WTF are they doing running Jones for 6 yards and then calling 3 straight pass plays with 2+ remaining? And on 4th and 4 running a route 2 yards short of the marker??? WTF??? Plenty of time to control the clock and drive into FG range. They should have ran Jones on 2nd and/or 3rd down to pick up yards. The Skins front 7 was looking rather tired, and you knew they were dropping 5-6 defenders into passing zones. So run the ball and force them to think about the play calls. Then go for a deep route or 10-15 yard gain. Bad clock control...bad play calls.

It was an obvious game in which the better team lost. Washington had nothing and got some breaks and made three big plays late (2 on 4th down, which was the true game definer). Aaron Glenn was the culprit on the 2 touchdowns. He's obviously lost some speed over the years. I wonder if he'll get cut like Westbrook was after the Houston debacle in 2002. I doubt it, but even Westbrook didn't look as bad in that game as Glenn did last night.

It's ok. Dallas will regroup. And the Boys will kick their butts in Washington the next time. The Skins are easily the worst 2-0 team I've seen in recent memory. Their offense is complete crap. Their defense is good. But like Bill Parcells said, you gotta close out those games. Dallas has stole wins from Washington like that and the law of averages plays out.

And Jerry Jones, please sign a kicker that's worth the money paid.

That jerk of a ref with the roughing call (hands to the head) on the sack by Castillas. Protecting QB's is one thing, but that is nonsense. It was a bollocks call.

I threw my toys out when Moss caught the second TD, piss-poor defending. I can't disagree with who was the best team, the Cowboys look alright but are in a tough division with Philly.

I'm not convinced the NFL East is that tough, although it could be fairly balanced. Beating the 'Niners means nothing, they aren't even the fourth best team in California, and Philly did not impress against Atlanta, so I still have questions about them. The Skins are just a crappy team--offense is suspect and I'm waiting for them to play a real offensive power, not the Bears and Cowboys.
Speaking of which--as has been mentioned previously on this thread, Dallas isn't a playoff caliber team this year.

Even my Giants have a lot of unanswered questions, despite being 2-0 against what where alleged to be quality opponents, although based on recent results, the "experts" assesments of the Cards and Saints might need to be reexamined. The NY defense is showing signs of life (as long as Strahan doesn't have a season ending injury), but Eli Manning is probably still at least a year away from making the offense a formidable factor.
I suspect Philly is the best of a mediocre lot.

The whole NFC is basically shit. Outside of Atlanta or Carolina I can't see anyone else stopping the winners of the East going to the Superbowl, and I expect the Eagles. The thing in a strong division is that they beat up on themselves. I wouldn't expect Philly to sweep, so they may not have home field throughout. The East also plays the AFC West this year so there will tough games to get through for all.
