Never thought he was a good player, but good luck to him. He's been the consummate professional. And his comments on twitter were classy.

3 trophies at United is quite a reasonably successful career, so he should be happy enough.

It is a shame because we do not have an abundance of defenders who are comfortable on the ball. I would have sold one or two others first.

Imo, was better than Smalling in 15/16. His long range prage passing was as good as any player in the team.

Imagine a lindelof and blind centre back pairing.

Would have been sensational.

I was very excited to see their partnership continue - maybe with an additional defender with Blind having more freedom to make passes on from deep as a third CB.

Guess there's no point crying about it now. One of my favorite players I have ever enjoyed watching at United.

I hope that we somehow make a move for Frenkie de Jong or De ligt (preferably De Jong because he is a CDM, Cm & CB) - we can't keep letting these type of young players go to other clubs whilst we scramble over Alderweireld (even though he is a good player - I hate seeing young players off to settle at other clubs).

Too slow and they would lose lots of headers.

Blind, decent player, not good enough for United.

Not good enough for Jose - does not mean he is not good enough for United. The same manager who scrambles over fellaini & Lukaku; blind had no chance.

I think this partnership would have been only good in fifa, infact even in fifa you need pacy players which none of them are. But actually these two CB's would have been a dream for a strong striker who would have bullied them. And against a team like stoke or bottom.half teams we would have struggled with these two.

Smalling was definitely better in the first half of the season. His form fell away a bit in the second half though and Blind was perhaps a bit better then. Overall I'd say Smalling was better though. That first half of the season was comfortably the best form any of our defenders have had since Vidic started dropping away.

What a beautiful message from him. "First of all I want to say how proud I am to be a part of the Manchester United family. To play for the biggest club in the world with such a history meant a lot to me. I had 4 great years with 4 trophy’s! I want to thank everyone, the Managers, coaches, the medical department, everyone who helped me to settle in so quick at the beginning, of course my teammates and last but definitely not least the fans! I want to thank you for all the love and support I received and still get. I will never forget some of the special games and moments, I will miss you ‘The Theatre of Dreams’! But now its time to go home."

Good luck Daley. I believe he could have contributed more if given more of an opportunity. More of a valuable squad player than the likes of Darmian, Rojo, Lindelof

Likeable character, not quite United level, IMO. Quite a few costly mistakes at centre-back, most notably at home v. City in 2016/17, when he froze and let KdB antecipate him and go one-on-one with DDG.
Not good enough at CB, lacking physicality at DM and not the type of player I would go for at LB.
Obviously surplus to requirements.

If the reported fee is accurate, I would say it's an excellent piece of business by United. Hopefully Darmian and Rojo could still go too.

Sad to see him go tbh. Would have preferred keeping him over Smalling/Jones. Far more versatile and intelligent than either of those two.

He wasn't signed to play as a CB was He? it was rather weird to see him starting in CB or LB games after games. I expected him to be a backup to Carrick as DM but that never happened.

Good luck to him, really classy footballer and great passer. Thought we should have given him a run in midfield or at least let him take over from Carrick and have his games last season when Carrick got ill.

His problem is he doesn't really excel in any one position, he's decent at wing back, left back in midfield and can do a job at CB with someone like Smalling beside him but he's not great anywhere. Still have no idea what his best position is after 4 years.

Classy, professional, and always did his best in positions he wasn't always best suited for. Probably best to move on, but his versatility will be a loss. He was great in the Europa League final, and a key part of the defence which saw us win the FA Cup - thanks for everything Daley, you beautiful man.

Frenkie de Jong isn't a CB. He played there a few times at Ajax, but that's clearly not his position. Will lack the physical abilities to play there in almost any other league than the Dutch Eredivisie. He is going to be one of the best CM's in the next couple of years, but will clearly move to Barcelona this summer or next.

He was found out, a lot. If he was as good as people tend to say in this topic, why does he move to Ajax, and not a mid-table team in Spain, Italy, England, Germany? Decent player on different positions, but not very good on any of them.

Great off the field. Never heard something bad about him.

The only position he could have played for us consistently was in a back three as a CB, where the negative aspects of his game/body could be compensated. Every other position and he just wasnt good enough due to his lack of pace and physicality. Wish him all the best though. Italy would have been great for him, Roma or Inter for example. But Ajax isnt too bad.

Disappointed to see him leave but Mourinho never rated him so it was always coming. I always enjoyed seeing him play and he's made a few great moments during his time here. Casually swiping us into the lead against Liverpool was one great moment and putting Lukaku in his pocket was another. The lad was a genuine whipping boy on here and it was disappointing to see a quality footballer get talked about so poorly.

Hope he enjoys his return to Ajax.

Cheers Daley.

I think he leaves to create chance for another Ajax lad - Mensah. All best to Daley, sad to see him go, especially in perspective of keeping banter wank of defenders like Darmian & Jones.

For me this deal is just another reason to fancy Ajax even more. They have a solid defensive player who knows the club like no one else.

I think that he was much better than Mourinho thought, but clearly, Mourinho didn't rate him. So, all things considered, it is for the best. Wishing him success in the future!

Probably just a bit too slow for Mourinho's liking. It's a shame, as I liked him. Decent squad option.

I am no fan of Mourinho.
I do like Blind.

But it's fair for Mourinho not to use him.
I think Daley is a good squad option. Offering something that isn't yet in the squad. He should not however be a regular starter as he is too lightweight. And Blind is not a player to build your team around.

As for going to Ajax. I doubt that there is any player of this age that leaves United that will only get an offer from a league like the Eredivisie. If there would be a top club coming for him he might consider it. But Blind sr. and Daley are Ajax people. So coming home is probably a better option than a subtop club in a different country.

Good that Daley finally stopped wasting his time here. His talents would never be appreciated in a fast paced league like PL

I put him and Mata in the same bracket in terms of what they have got. Both have excellent football brains but the physical attributes of pre pubescent boys. Done well here all things considered... He had a brilliant season at Centre half, which I thought was fecking bonkers when he started playing there.

All the best Daley, top professional :)

Where have Ajax found the money for him and Tadic?

Ajax had some serious financial problems up until about 8 years ago when Cruijff stepped in to change things and people like Overmars and Van der Sar got appointed to lead the club. After reorganising and cutting wages etc. for a few years they turned the club completely around, no debt whatsoever, and before the summer they had 175 million euros in the bank. But this hasn't shown in on field performance, as they haven't won the Dutch league in 4 years. So that's why they're spending now. They're in a position now that they can easily spend whatever transfer money comes in, which wasn't the case in the past. Even now they might still break even on transfers, as Ziyech might still be sold, and they already bought his replacement in Labyad.

I liked him a lot. If he had some pace, he'd have been fantastic.
