Curious Case of Coutinho...

This is a prime example of why you don't rush to replace players. The Neymar money was basically blown on two players who have contributed very little when in reality, Griezmann is a good replacement and all they had to do was be patient

Just think about it again. Losing one of your superstars in Neymar for a lot of money and NOT replacing him afterwards... How would the fans and players react to this?

They would react however they want, it shouldn't affect the actions of the club. Because an hasty reaction had a very high chance of backfiring.

Strange deal. Coutinho moves there for such a small loan fee and a huge potential transfer fee is inserted as an option, which pretty much renders it irrelevant as Bayern won't pay that even if Coutinho works out great.

But Coutinho still gets a big welcome in Munich, receives a huge vote of confidence and Robben's number. Also, if Liverpool got all of the loan fee, then that pretty much wraps it up. It's like all parties made an effort for the details of this deal to not make any sense.

They would be furious I am sure....that's why football clubs have senior people making strategic decisions behind the scenes and shouldn't bow to pressure from the fans or popular opinion :-)

It's not that simple. Reputation (club, president, manager, etc.) is also very important. If the season doesn't go well, the people in charge may get the sack.

haha..... precisely my thought as well. However, I do get the feeling that Coutinho will be Hazard's replacement at Chelsea next summer and Barca and Chelsea probably have some pre-contract in place. He was supposed to move there if the ban was overturned.

:D

(last line says "buy on loan".
Yes, they messed up with Coutinho instead of Sané with Coutinho scribbled next to it ^^)

Don't know what Barcelona are doing, they'll be even weaker without him.

Both sides seem to be adjusting. Kovac is playing him behind Lewandowski in a 4-2-3-1 and Coutinho looks fitter than at the beginning of the season.
A goal + assist in each of the last two games while playing the full 90 minutes.

Let‘s see how this ends...

Either with him going back to Barca to be used as a makeweight for PSG in the Neymar deal that’ll happen next summer or with him joining Bayern permanently for £100 million plus and be the main outgoing from Barca they need to sign Neymar next summer.

Were United really linked to him in the summer? I read plenty of transfer rumors but, at the time I didn't buy it.

Now it actually makes a lot of sense. If Ole is persistent on playing 4231, then Coutinho would be ideal. He thrives as a 10 and is a clear upgrade on Lingard.

There is no such thing.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

I think we were probably interested, but he had better offers. I think if he was to come back to England it'd of been to Liverpool if they'd been interested.

Outrageously good tonight

Absolute master stroke by Bayern getting him on loan

Was very good.

He was really good away to Spurs in the group stages last year as well. He'll revert to his poor form soon enough.
Will be interesting to see if Bayern do cough up the 100m they'll need if he has a great season.

Nah he was brilliant for Liverpool and isn't the first player to find it tough playing for a side like Barcelona. He's absolute class

Bayern seems to have built itself a pretty good reputation of pulling players out of the gutter for cheap. Bastards.
If they make the loan permanent he's going to cost them 100m. There's nothing cheap about this one.

If he were that good, he'd have found a way to shine in all the possible roles and chances that he was given at Barca. Shooting all game just isn't something that worked well in a team of technically superior players.

It's ok for a player to have a ceiling and still be a top class player you know?

Back to his Liverpool best tonight, was outstanding and I'm glad to see his form picked up. Way too good of a player not to be producing

Maybe it's me but I just have never found him a top tier player. Had a feeling he'd be found out at Barcelona and it happened. He may do well enough here but we'll see. Anyway, hope he keeps up his form so we can see where he ends up next year. Psg, Bayern or Barcelona.

Was he really that good today? He had some moments of brilliance but I struggle to see that he's worth the transfer fee and the answer to Bayern's troubles. Spurs afforded him acres of space and most of the time he is taking pot shots from outside the box.

The whole club going through a transition and today's result is abit of an anomaly because Spurs capitulated completely. Will be interesting to see if Coutinho's the man to elevate them.

Wish we had taken him back on loan but Barcas asking price (permanent fee) was off-putting. We'd just giving them their money back to fund some other muppet to sign.

Like his poor form at Liverpool or with Brazil?

He's a very good player that was misused at Barcelona

He had all the chances there to prove himself. He had chances on the wings, in a 3 man midfield and even close to the striker. He was poor everywhere he played, his decision making was shocking and he'd always try to do too much and end up attempting to dribble past 5 players and then lose the ball. By the end of his time there, even his shooting, which seems to be his only potent weapon, was also misfiring. I'll be surprised if he does well enough for Bayern to want to pay the 100m to secure his services.

Coutinho and Messi in the same team just wasn’t going to work.

Throughout his career, Coutinho has been brilliant for Brazil, Liverpool, and so far Bayern. He’s clearly a class player.

Gnabry will grab all the headlines but he was outstanding tonight.

Shame that he is not English. Maybe then Ole would try to sign him up. :wenger:.
With him on no10 position we would be different team

120mil for a player who will be 28 next summer would be a risky deal.

(Hope this is an acceptable bump, certainly doesn't warrant its own thread)

Hmm, I'm still not sure he's entirely happy or that his dream has been fulfilled. He's a fringe player for you guys, isn't he? Hardly the heartbeat of this well-oiled machine you created.

He's a Brazilian who wanted to live the good life in Barcelona whilst playing with fellow South Americans. I think the lifestyle and the team was more important to him than the trophies, but he was unable to settle in there. Not sure but I think he was happier at Liverpool when he was playing brilliantly week in and week out, and was revered by our fans.

Do Barca have to pay Coutinho's champions league winner clause to Liverpool?
