Funny that people react on that yellow card like it’s a grave injustice. He has a crap touch and follows through to make up for it, him hitting the ball first becomes slightly irrelevant when he follows through on the defender’s leg with force. Think Mark Noble in the middle of the pitch. Textbook yellow every day of the week.

Yes, it's a textbook yellow by the letter of the law because he did a late sliding tackle. The problem is that the referee seemingly chose to apply a higher standard to the game when he let McCarthy off for a late sliding tackle a few minutes earlier. If you're a ref and you're going to apply a higher standard and not book players for textbook yellows, apply it to both teams, right?

It is a grave injustice in that context because one team can keep doing those types of tackles and break up play when they get dribbled past whereas the other team has to let players pass them because they run the risk of getting sent off if they do the same things as their opponents.
