Crystal Palace 2024-2025

Fantastic for Soucek and Bowen to pull out the ball not. Palace should ensure that doesn’t happen again.

Genuinely had no idea Rob Holding was a Palace player. When did you sign him from Arsenal?

Not sure he's a solution for the back. Will be o.k v Everton but not many teams play long ball at this level anymore.

Not sure selling Guehi on top of Andersen is wise regardless of bids as it will be a very young backline if Richards and Riad are going to be the long term replacements.

They've got enough in midfield and attack to be comfortable mid table despite the slow start..

I still don’t think they have lost anyone amazing (bar Olise). The only criticism so far is that they should have had more done by now. Dropping points at the start of the season while in flux is a bit of a mess.

I think they will make some good moves this week and arguably have better players by the time the dust is settled.

They will end up getting the likes of Chalobah cheap and they have the money ready to move quickly and take advantage.

That is a sacrificed 4-6 points already though.

Palace aren't aiming for Europe really, much stronger squads even in the mid table pack. I mean with Fulham signing Andersen from them you'd rate the Fulham 11 as better currently and Fulham would see 10th as a success this season.

Everton took 1 point from their first 5 games last season and nearly amassed 50 points in the end so plenty of teams start slow and then get going in October/November (Bournemouth).

Palace are more likely to do something in the long run under a Glasner than Hodgson type manager so they just need to sort the first 11 out and kick on from there.

It’s still not ideal to drop 6 points early doors because of such a dramatic transfer exchange. They should have been more organised. With a manager like Glasner, Europe may not have been out of reach, especially with how they ended last season.

Losing 6 points early doors might be the difference between potentially bigger things or not.

A probable loss away to Chelsea next week and they close the window with 0 points, which is a little negligent.

It’s thin margins and they probably have the best coach of the mid table pack. It could well seem like an opportunity missed by seasons end.

Didn't see the game because I was watching ours but looking at the highlights it seems like they should have been home and dry in the first half but poor finishing meant West Ham could get back into the game second half. Similar story at Brentford last week.

Yeah we have played well enough to get something in both games so I’m not overly concerned, though it’s a disappointing start given how we ended last season.

It’s very frustrating that we haven’t moved quicker in the market but to be honest we never, ever do so it’s not a surprise. As long as Parish thinks we have enough to get by he would rather leave a gap in the squad and wait for a future window than overpay for someone in the current one. It really winds me up as a supporter but on occasions it does work out well for us, we were the top spenders in January while other clubs struggled with PSR constraints and we probably underpaid for Wharton and Munoz while nobody else had the headroom to buy.

We don’t have a Tony Bloom figure that’s willing to chuck £400m in and our revenues are still small compared to the clubs in and around us so you can kind of understand it. But it does limit what we can ever achieve when gifting points away at the start of every season, and has stopped the momentum we had at the end of last season in its tracks. If you were Glasner you wouldn’t be happy about it, that’s my biggest concern.

It's an horrible away end in easily the worst stadium in the Premier league. Sort of away end that encourages surges if away team scores a late winner.

I'm not sure why they can't revamp the ground as Selhurst isn't hemmed in by houses like other London stadia and there's space on a couple of sides to build another tier and get rid of all the stanchions for a start.

Think Parish was talking about an extension on Talksport last week but they submitted plans for ground extension in 2016 so clearly not an urgent priority.

Update from last week:

Away fans are sat in the Arthur Wait stand which is dreadful, I had a ST in there for one season and it’s just as bad for the home supporters. Imagine it’ll be tackled after the Main Stand is finished, the other two stands are OK.

@Shipperley

Listening to the Castles' pod he was saying Textor offered the two other main Palace owners 500m for their shares, when they had offered him 100m (or what he put in, in the first place) for his share. So he's obviously valuing the club much much higher. What is fan sentiment with regards to Textor taking over at Palace? You want rid of him or you want that multi club model on the go?

Can’t speak for everyone but I think a lot of Palace fans would worry massively about a Textor takeover. His business acumen seems questionable (look at the situation he’s got himself in to here) and for all his faults, Parish has presided over the longest top flight period in our history while delivering incremental academy and stadium improvements. I’d add that we have a really conservative fanbase after the two recent administrations so most seem to be content with where we’re at vs risking a third one.

My issue is that SP isn’t wealthy enough to push the club on from here and Harris and Blitzer want to run the club sustainably and as close to break even as possible. That’s fine if everyone’s doing it but the teams around us like Brighton, Fulham and West Ham are spending incredible amounts and will soon leave us behind, even newly promoted sides typically outspend us by a significant margin. We had some really grim years under the three owners before Textor’s money arrived; the James McCarthy and Cenk Tosun on loan years. Eurgh.

So to answer your question, I feel a little bit screwed either way. I supose the least worst option for me would be a third-party investor that’s got Palace at heart buying Textor’s share, with enough capital behind them to eventually buy out the others. Problem is, why would anyone buy a 45% stake in the club to get voted down by the other three all the time, as Textor has found out? You’d have to be an idiot to do that……..

So the window closed, we turned a ~£25m profit and this is probably now our strongest 11:

------------------Henderson
---------Guehi---Lacroix--Chalobah
Munoz---Wharton--Doucoure---Mitchell
-----------------------Eze
--------------Mateta---Nketiah

Still not quite sure how the front 3 will line up but with Daichi Kamada, Ismaila Sarr and Matheus Franca around it seems 3-4-1-2 and 3-4-2-1 are both good options. Obviously losing Olise is a huge blow but we kept hold of Eze, Guehi and Wharton...lost Andersen but brought in Chadi Riad, Lacroix and Big Trev so we're definitely stronger at the back (arguably as good as anyone outside the top six there IMO).

Curious for an external perspective on our window and what would constitute a good season with the above team? I'm feeling quietly confident despite the dodgy start. Full ins and outs here: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/crystal-palace/transfers/verein/873

With your manager and quality in player in terms of Eze and Wharton I'd say between 12th and 8th should be the target.

Good team, it’s unfortunate Johnstone wanted to leave I don’t trust Henderson one bit.

Thanks for the reply mate. I keep looking for news on this, find it quite interesting what with Textor being sort of involved with two Premier League clubs at the moment, and those different valuations of the club internally. I doubt he could put his shares in a blind trust and roll on with a 45% stake in Palace if he actually does buy our Moshiri at Everton.

Interesting that Harris and Blitzer value his stake at 100m, meaning the overall would be 220m for a Premier League club in London. Seems quite low. And if I got this all right and he offered 500m for their shares (36%) or was it to buy out the remaining shareholders' 55% ? Anyhow, valuing the club at over a billion, whilst Everton is likely about 500m or so, with the sweetener that they move into that new stadium next season.

Also think Palace did well by recruiting Chalobah on loan after selling Andersen. Thought you'd sell Guehi for 60m+ with two years remaining on his deal, might be a missed opportunity. Or maybe he is amazing, not watched him too much.

If Mateta maintains his goal scoring record from the second half of last season you will easily make top 10. Very few recognised goal scorers out there.

How's the atmosphere at Selhurst Park usually? Just bought tickets for the Fulham game this weekend in the Arthur Wait stand.

Anyone with local experience for some pre-game pints (or what time I should leave central London to reach the ground in time), let me know :)

It takes around 1hr 30mins from central depending on what route you take, the closest pub is on the corner of Thornton Heath High St, The Prince George.

Cheers! And fecking hell that's a long time - I had read you could get there with Thameslink or Southern in around 30mins when leaving from London Bridge or Victoria.

You can almost entirely go from East to West through Belgium in 1h30mins

30mins? What?

From Thornton Heath train station to Selhurst Park is about 20/30min walk alone

I don’t know maybe it’s probably quicker to go to Selhurst train station!
