The most interesting team in the league last season. That new manager bounce really extended into the belief that Glasner was the real deal. A manager who qualified Wolfsburg for the Champions League and subsequently went on to qualify Frankfurt for the Champions League (via winning the Europa League) for the first time in 60+ years. I think Palace were on 24 points after 24 matches when he took over, they ended on 49 points. So his points per game average would equate to 63 points over the course of a full season. Ourselves and Newcastle finished on 60 points.

They've lost Olise to Bayern for 50m, but they look like they'll hold on to Guehi, Wharton and Eze. Some tentative links of Mateta to Villa. But Glasner looks like a manager who actually improves his team and gets the collective gelling, and that in a super short space of time. Will be very interesting to see whether he keeps this up.

They've bought Chadi Riad (21 year old Moroccan international) centre back from Real Betis. And they've picked up Japanese international Daichi Kamada (27), attacking midfielder, on a free from Lazio, who played under Glasner at Frankfurt.

Glasner has quite a particular tactical setup so I wouldn't begin to know what their best XI is, but I know some Palace fans who really want to see Lerma in the team. They look very light on wide attackers /wingers, but pretty stocked in defense and centre of midfield.

Having no European distractions and a full preseason under Glasner it would not surprise me if they end up anywhere from 5th-8th. If they get in a couple of game changers in the front 3/4 they really could be pushing for a high finish.

Tempting at 300-1 to win the league. Not quite Leicester odds ...

I don't think we're safe from the vultures just yet, if anything I reckon we'll be pretty keen to move Guehi on as he has 2 years remaining and his value is about as high as it'll get. Not quite sure who'd take him a this point but Liverpool and Real Madrid have both been mentioned so that's one to watch.

Olise is irreplaceable of course but the chink of light is that he (and Eze) missed a lot of football last season and we were badly exposed for squad depth, Jordan Ayew and Jeffrey Schlupp played way more games than I'd have liked in the attacking positions. Seems like rather than blowing the Olise money on one player we're beefing up our depth and Kamada and Ismaila Sarr strike me as good business for a combined £12m to give us more options. Also think we're after one more that can play in the 10 positions, Marcus Edwards and Wesley Gassova are the two that have been linked recently.

I like Lerma a lot but I'm really excited to see what kind of partnership Wharton and Cheick Doucoure form. If Doucoure comes back in anything like his pre-injury form (Liverpool were linked for £60m+) then I honestly believe we'll have one of the best midfield partnerships in the league. The other big wildcard this season is Matheus Franca, he spent a lot of time out injured last season but I'm hoping he can start to make an impact as we've seen his talent in glimpses.

Oh and little tip, get Daniel Munoz in your FPL team. He's mustard.

Right on queue :D

He didn’t even play during our good run of results so I’m fine with it.

What's the fee Palace would let him go for?
I think it'll get done for ~£50m. Been a fair bit of noise that we'll go after Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg to replace him and he's being talked about in the £20-25m range. Would still leave us budget to bring in another player even after Chelsea have been paid.

Newcastle are gunning for an all Cobham backline, with Guehi, Livramento and Hall so far.

How long do you reckon you will be able to keep Wharton for?

Must be gut-wrenching how you’re never allowed to build. You had the makings a very good team, and two of the leading lights in it are already gone. I’d hate that!
Nah just got to be objective about it really. We've got quite an imbalanced squad in quality distribution terms, we have 5 or 6 that could play in Europe and not look out of place but the drop-off to our squad players is pretty big. The likes of Wardy, Will Hughes, Ahamada, Clyne, Schlupp and Ayew are lower PL/top Championship players so you've just got to trust that at the end of the window we'll likely have less individual X factor but many more options to rotate and change things up in-game (especially important with 5 subs of course).

Also, of those 5 or 6 that I mentioned, Eze and Olise both missed about 3 months of the season, Doucoure missed 8 months and Guehi missed 2 or 3 months. Wharton and Munoz only arrived in January (and Glasner in February!). It's not inconceivable to imagine that over a 38 game season we'll accumulate more points than the one just gone if we get the right players in.

Big if I know, but as long as Dougie Freedman's around I'm not worried at all.

Fair play. That’s a balanced outlook. Lot of eyes on you this season. I’ll definitely be tuning in for Wharton.

I see, thanks. 50-55m is around fair value IMO.

There’s a lad called Sancho that’s surplus at United that would suit Palace to a tee. Say 35m and he’s yours

Deal. But we can only pay him 100k/week, so you'll have to give him that 35m as a signing-off fee

Andersen is not going to be "lost" to Fulham.

Potentially crazy end to the window coming up...Olise gone already; Guehi, Andersen, Johnstone and Ayew likely off, fair chance that Edouard, Schlupp and Ahamada go...can't rule out someone making a late approach for Eze either.

Incomings so far; Chadi Riad (£15m), Daichi Kamada (free) and Ismaila Sarr (£12.5m) so very modest spending...you'd expect (hope) we'll be doing a lot of business over the next 10 days.

Feels like a huge risk to have so much change in one season tbh, I'm nervous.

Do you think Guehi will go then?

I think you'll be fine. You have the manager for it and you looked much better than Brentford on the weekend.

How much of this do you think is driven by players naturally ending their time there, and how much do you think is driven by Glasner/Freedman and wanting to reshape the team to fit his style?

I think it's both. When you look at the deals in isolation it's only the Olise one that we wouldn't have wanted to do at the fee quoted, the rest of them make total sense:

Guehi - £65m+ is insane money for him if we're honest
Andersen - 28 years old, 2 years left on his deal and wanted big money to renew apparently (like top earner level money). Paid £15m for him, selling for £30m three years later. Personally I am really sad to lose him but Glasner wants pacey CBs and he certainly isn't that, so I can understand why we're selling now before his value starts to drop
Ayew - 33 this year, paid £2.5m and getting £8m, that's a great deal. Sarr is taking his spot in the squad for a net £4.5m outlay...there was a time we offered Watford £25m for Sarr so that seems like a no-brainer
Johnstone - clubs like us don't need two first choice keepers who are both competing for an England place, signed him on a free and will probably bank £10-12m for him, again good business on the face of it

You can't look at any of those and think they don't make financial sense, but all at the same time - at this stage of the window - is worrying.

Will just need to reserve judgement until the end of the window I think, plenty of names being linked at the moment...at centre-back it seems we're after two from Maxence Lacroix, Thomas Araujo and Odilon Koussouno, at LWB it seems we're after an experienced option with Filip Kostic and Robin Gosens the two most prominent links, and in the number ten area Marcus Edwards and Carney Chukwuemeka seem to be the two we're going after. Freedman is one of the most canny operators in the game so I'm just going to have to trust him.

As as been well documented by now, we have over 20 players for you choose from at your leisure

Chukwuemeka will cost you a fair bit. He's a gem. I saw something about you being interested in Disasi too.

Loan with option is what I'm reading but not sure you'd go for that?

I think if push came to shove, Chelsea could agree to that. A solid loan at a club like Palace, that have historically been a good loan destination for young Chelsea players, would be a win/win for all parties concerned.

You could probably just drive to the ground and throw him into the car and they might not notice.

I still don’t think they have lost anyone amazing (bar Olise). The only criticism so far is that they should have had more done by now. Dropping points at the start of the season while in flux is a bit of a mess.

I think they will make some good moves this week and arguably have better players by the time the dust is settled.

They will end up getting the likes of Chalobah cheap and they have the money ready to move quickly and take advantage.

That is a sacrificed 4-6 points already though.
