Crysis

I have a 2.66 core 2 duo, 8800GTS and I'm running on Vista 64 so i'm using the DX10. It runs smoothly, but I know it would run alot better with a quad core.
Are you building from scratch or upgrading?

Thanks for info. :)

I'm building from scratch, I have a time to decide to monday, that's why I'm asking so many 'techno' questions.

medium detail ? No AA ? 1024x768 ?

and Van on lower resolution (under 1900x...) , and no AA , the gt outperforms the gts

This GT series is simply brilliant... some say that when you overclock gt, it can beat GTS's clock speed.

yes , but you need some pro cooling , becouse on stock cooling the load temps are around 80 - 90 C . you need water cooling or phase

That's high school of moding, sounds like stuff for experts... I will not risk that much.

Crysis is the only game that requires so much of graphic power.

My other question will be... Intel Core Duo are officialy better than AMD x2 ?

From what I have seen, Intel have more cash memory in their processors.

Maybe I should run another thread...

Around how much would the pro cooling cost? And how much to maintain it? I'm not looking to overclock it unless neccessary but my recent graphic card's fan just got burnt off.

yeah I would think so, 1024x768 is low enough res so you'd probably be able to run with a great level of details on

Have to say, PC gaming annoys me in that there are no limits for game developers. They can just keep escalating the minimum requirements needed to play the game.

What I like about consoles is that they are forced to evolve their programming until they can get the most out of a console. Witness first generation PS2 games compared to the latest games released on the console.

It's the same with the PS3. Developers are having to get to grip with the workings, as opposed to being given carte blanche to program a game and waiting for the average person's PC to catch up.

Why have i never heard of this before?

That's simply unbelievable........

just buy a new Zalman heatsink&cooler for max 50 $ ,best budget solution
if you want to make it a hobby you must start from the beginning
decide if you go on air or water ore even chilled water , then buy a a case for the decided solution
it can cost from 300-1500 $

There's an 8600GT OC version that comes with a Zalman fan. Should I get it?

Around how much does it cost? Give me an estimation.

Cause I only have a budget of around 200 to spend. Which is about 70 pounds.

they're not widely available yet (better wait until January it seems) so prices are still just below 300$

the GT should be below 250$ next year

Posting from my new machine for the first time.

Intel Core 2 Duo 6750, 2.66Ghz, 1333Mhz
BFG 8800 GT OC 512MB GDDR3
2X 1 Gb OCZ 6400, 800Mhz (Running in dual channel)
Samsung 500Gb SATA HDD

Downloading Crysis as I type, it will be interesting to see how it plays.

if you can wait....9 series will come out , the 8 series prices will drop
in a couple of months you will get a 8800 (gt) for that money

any results ? any high fsb's? and post some temps to please.

What a game.

Runs well on my system at 1920x1200 (C2D E6600, 8800GTX, 2GB OCZ DDR2).

You'll need two in SLI to get the absolutely highest settings, I still get slowdown now and again. Turning on AA is also a big no no.

This will redefine the genre.

I'm looking to buy a new PC in the Summer. I'm going to go totally for broke - not scared of spending £2,500+. I'm going with Intel and ATI though (I've always been a Radeon man, always).

But am I reading in this thread that even with the most expensive PC I can buy I can't play this game at maximum resolution with the level of detail at full and anti-aliasing on? What the hell is the point of having advanced anti-aliasing if you can't use it?

Oh, and watching the videos of this game make me want Half-Life 3 even more. I suspect that Episode 3 will still take a year or so, but when Valve release full games they tend to blow the shit out of everything else on the market (witness Half-Life 2 and them much-hyped Far Cry).

Crytek consistently set new benchmarks in fps gaming, ushering in new generations of shooters. Then Valve consistently shit on them.

I thought the best thing about Half Life 2 was how much it improved Day of Defeat and Counterstrike with the Source engine, but as a standalone game I thought Farcry showed it had far more potential, just didn't have the same flawless execution as Valve's game. Hopefully Crysis will do a better job of it. Crytek are doing amazing things

With any luck my new PC will be able to run this at the maximum settings  Horrible having Crysis sitting on my desk but not being able to play it yet

I just bought an 8600GT because of my failed modification to my 6600GT.

Trying to run Crysis.

Call of Duty, not that smooth, but playable.

failed
?
what happened

Well. I tried to tweak it a little. Because the fan was kind of charred off, I tried to replace the fan with another. Turns out I didnt know that once the fan is kind of "pulled off", the entire graphic card dies.

Thus I had to spend around 60 pounds getting a 8600GT.
It's worth it, definitely, but I get lags during COD4. Trying Kane and Lynch and Crysis soon.

Nearly a year on....Is anyone even close to running this game at max yet?

This game still taxes most hardware today

meh...

my comp can run every game at max.

Edit: i like your post count!!!

He means at 2 frames per second.

Ahhhh

I guessed i should have stressed at a playable and non laggy max settings.

Even i could turn everything up and watch my computer fail miserably.

And its not even a bad system

Was able to play on max settings when it came out

Started playing Crysis Warhead on the weekend - not bad. I think Stalker is a much better game though, even though it's buggy

But was that with full AA?

I'm able to turn the resolution up full and all setting very high and get an average framrate at about 30-35 fps which is very playable.

Still, with allmost any sort of AA(apart from 2 X) it would completely kill it.....i don't bother with AA anymore since i never thought it made much of a difference and i use edageAA anyways which is far less demanding.

I was just curious if there we're anyone out there that has something serious enough that they can run it max no problems whatsoever

Regarding Stalker...my mate recommended the first to me because he absolutely loves it....says it had him on edge and made him jumpy....that doesn't work well for me in FPS hehe

Runs no problem for me on x16 AA, or x16Q I think it has

Worth noting though I thought it'd be a good time to buy a new PC with Crysis coming out, so it was brand new at the time

What resolution we're you running?

1600*1200

Should definitely give Stalker a try even if you can't run it on max settings (I can't run Stalker Clear Sky on max settings). Loads of great mods for it, try playing the original Stalker with Oblivion Lost - magic

I'm a little baffled by this....I can run Stalker : Clear Sky at max without any problems yet when i turn to Crysis i can't and you seem to be the opposite.Never played Clear sky though my mate just installed it so he could run a benchmark as he was getting a bottleneck somewhere.

What specs are you running?

I can run 1680X1050 all very high but no AA if i start running AA in Crysis my frame rate drops so drastically it became unplayable

Stalker Clear Sky is weird and buggy atm, I think it has issues with SLI setups?

Now I have:

Intel QX9650 Quad Core
2 x eVGA Geforce 8800 Ultra
4GB Ram

Can run Clear Sky with 2 x AA and Sun Effects/God Rays all that at medium using one card ... but once I switch to SLI it doesn't really let me improve on that, so maybe I just have to wait for a patch. Before the recent patch SLi would feck the game up completely so you couldn't even get past the main menu

Ahhh well explains it a little....i only very briefly had Clear Sky since it was my mate just testing it on my comp, maybe wasn't running completely maxed out.

2 EVGA Ultras though man that is nice....I have 2 EVGA Superclocked 8800GT's at the minute

what was mad though is that even though Crysis is nearly a year old it still taxes absolute top end systems today....you gotta ask really what exactly they we're thinking to be honest

It does look very nice though! The bits after you've escaped the alien mountain where the whole landscape is frozen are really demanding, my mate could run the game perfectly but once he got to that point it completely bogged his system down.

Bits of Clear Sky, even though I can't run max settings, are stunning though. Where you're running around and suddenly you see the sun coming up through the trees with all the rays of light pouring though, amazing

Farcry 2 is coming out this month as well, wonder how that will handle. Looks promising
