Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo is the ultimate professional. Won't be surprised to see him at his peak physically till he is 32 or 33.

So, showing respect, but telling us he thinks he'll stuff us.

It's exactly what I'd want from someone at our club, to be honest - RVP, for example. Respect to the former club, acknowledgement of the debt to them, then a nice firm declaration that the current club are better and are going to win.

That game at OT is going to be unmissable. I would really love to knock them out. Would give Ronaldo a reminder that no player is bigger than Manchester United.

It would be good to see our number 7 score since he used to have that shirt number and he still does.

I've really been enjoying watching Real fail this season. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Barça, but just seeing José Mourinho's face when they are down is precious.

Ronaldo is just a casualty of that in my view. It's bad news for him, but good for us. The worse they do, the more chance we've got of snatching him at some stage. Hopefully he's showing the admiration for our club and manager to let us know he'd consider us when the time comes.

edit: ... and to agree with Brightonian, lets get them beaten. They're not at the top of their game. It's a good opportunity.

Why does he need a reminder?

Let's just try and win so as to stay in the competition, and leave the smalltime stuff to the dippers.

I wish people like you would stop going around calling every comment you disagree with "RAWKish" or a "dipper". It pisses me off to no end.

And don't twist what I said by deleting some of it. That's not WHY I want to win, it was a separate point and it would just be a nice bonus.

Ronaldo is the key to the outcome of our slugfest with Real. Should we contain him, we go through. Should we not, Real go through. It's that simple.

There's no one United player about whom the same can be said. Contain RvP, Rooney goes wild and vice versa. I still don't even rule out the possibility of Nani having a surprisingly massive impact on the tie, but I concede that may be more hope than expectation. Still, we've seen niblets of the old Nani and I refuse to accept the possibility that he'll backslide on us when we take the pitch at the Bernabeau.

Well... heads would want him to be out of our game (him being a threat and all), but hearts wants him to be playing fit and on form so that we can have a match we'd be longing to see for a long time

The big european nights.

Bet a fiver he'll shed some tears whomever comes out the winner after 2nd leg

I hope he'll be out, I honestly don't care about the sentiment of him playing vs his former club.Whatever increases United's chances to beat Real Madrid works for me

Exactly! This is not a club friendly where they share drinks at half-time. This is a crucial match in a crucial stage of the Champions league. There is no room for sentiment and whether he is there to play or not, is of little importance. We beat them, we go through, simple as. He has moved on to pastures new, some cannot even let the past go.

He has dismissed concerns regarding his ankle problems. So now you can hope we just try and do everything to contain him.

We have a better chance against him and Real Madrid than we did against Messi and Barcelona that is for sure. Real Madrid do not play possession football in the sense like Barcelona so, we will see a great deal of the ball. It is what we do with it that counts, with or without Ronaldo playing against us.

Yeah but my previous was more about making a point rather really hoping for his absence.Let's just say that if he were to get injured during the match (except for a truly horrible injury), I wouldn't feel sorry for him

nahh, hope he plays.
As a fan I like to see United play against the best teams and players, winning would be even more sweet.

Gareth Bale is a better player than Cristiano Ronaldo, says Jeff Stelling

If I was Spurs chairman Daniel Levy I'd be a worried man now because Gareth Bale is playing too well, for both club and country.

We already know that Bale is held in high regard by some of Europe's biggest clubs and recent stellar displays have put him firmly back in the shop window.

His goal in Wales' 2-1 friendly victory over Austria was his 17th in all competitions this season and came swiftly after those two superb strikes in the Premier League, against Norwich and West Brom.

I just worry, from Spurs' point of view, that an offer might come along in the summer that they can't refuse.

I heard Jamie Redknapp say on Super Sunday that Bale is 'absolutely world class', that he's 'as good as Ronaldo'.

I don't often disagree with Jamie, but I think it's got to the stage where you can say that Bale is better than Ronaldo because he's simply unplayable.

That's not to denigrate Ronaldo, who has got all the tricks and dynamite in his boots - but so has Bale.

What Bale's got that Ronaldo hasn't is incredible strength and power; Ronaldo is quick but when Bale gets up a head of steam, there's no stopping him.

I'd love to know who the fastest player in the Premier League is if it's not Bale. He's adaptable, too - he can play wide or down the middle. If you want him to do a job defensively, he can do that as well.

Wales fans won't thank me for saying it but it's such a shame that we are unlikely to ever see him play in a major tournament.

It's the 'George Best syndrome' all over again: Bale is one of the best players in the world and as much as I'd love to see him at a World Cup, despite his best efforts, it's not going to happen.

I was in Portugal this week and I saw Ronaldo score against Ecuador and it was a fine goal, but I'm hard pushed to think of another player in Europe (aside from Lionel Messi) who gives you the all-round quality that Bale gives Spurs.

He's the reason why Spurs are where they are now - fourth in the Premier League - and he's the one who could drive them on to a Champions League place, which is the minimum Spurs will need to keep him.

Oh dear. I've lost just a bit of respect for the great man. A man scoring 50+ a season isn't unplayable?
