The odds of us winning major trophies hinges on our ability to develop a coherent strategy that doesn't involve us shitting the bed and park the bus against any half decent team that come out to play and press us off the ball. A big name won't change that. Di Maria didn't before he downed tools, Zlatan couldn't, Sanchez struggles (thus far).

We got battered and held on to a 1-0 win against relegation battler Southampton by matchday 3 (or 4?) last season. If you think signing Ronaldo changes that, sure, let's agree to disagree.

Yes we might not be able to create enough chances for Ronaldo to score 40-50 goals every season. But apart from that, Ronaldo is a different animal in terms of drive and determination, and scoring goals, which could help us to win more games in tight situation. I have seen enough in past 3 years showing he can do that. Point is he may not be the superhuman who can win us every game, but there are lot of games over past 3 years where he won the match by sheer drive and determination, and goals.
 
He is not even Juventus' best player, the real stars are Alex Sandro and Pjanic. He's just a poacher and a cone that finishes the brilliant service by them, those are the ones that do all the work.

I think it's a great move for Juventus and Ronaldo. Also, probably Madrid. They've received 8-9 years of GOAT level service from him.

He'll be able to continue taking it easy in Serie A (while still putting up significant numbers and winning league titles!) and really go hard when the knockout rounds of the UCL comes around. He'd be a definite upgrade on Higuain to try and propel Juve from (almost) perennial semi finalists (sometimes finalists!) to maybe going all the way.

And they've got a lovely support cast for him in Pjanic, Costa and Dybala :drool:

Can't really see Ronaldo "lose" in this scenario. Either way he enhances his legacy (another league title (from a different country) to add to his collection and a realistic shot at winning the "UCL").

Closer look would show that's already happening. Went from being a superhuman for 45-50 games a season to "only" 30-35. At least that's what the last 2 seasons said(and even 15/16 is arguable). 'Course, given the level of performances of those 30-35 games, it doesn't really matter for juventus. Manage his minutes to ensure the CL ko games are among those and they're set.

Uh? Nope. Cristiano will make 31mil a year after tax at juve, whether they structure it with a big signing bonus or not. Juve would hardly be able to afford a significant signing bonus on top of those wages. And Di Marzio would have reported it if that were the case :D

So still some 10mil less than Messi.

Not even close. They dominated the first leg between the Cris goals. The second leg we created way more than them, we gave up a stupid early goals and then let them play on the counter. But we were better than them in that game.

I admit there was a slight pang when I heard it's official. I don't even like the guy that much. But when you think about it, it's really a win win for both parties. Kudos for Juventus for pulling this with minimum fuss. Serie A is going to attract lots of neutral fans this season!
 
Dunc seemed to have got the price right back in December and if it's to be believed, Juve were in the running from January. Timeline adds up.

 
Bought for 80mn....9 years...titles...individual accolades....all-time leading goal scorer...all the fan pull to RM from brand CR7...merchandise....and sold him for 99mn

19 mn + hundreds of goals + titles + merchandise profits

We should have put in some clause like 10mn for every CL, 5mn for every league, 5mn for Ballon D'Or, and so on...this is the reason it's ok to invest heavily on a talented and a self-motivated player even if it means it'll be a record-breaking 200mn fee

Do you really think he would score 130 goals for United if he returned at the age of 33. If he stayed for 4 seasons he would need 33 goals a season for that to happen.

No chance would that happen.

Makes sense because if it's true that large parts of CR's 30 mio wages won't be paid by Juve but through other companies and sponsors from the Agnelli group this is more or less financial doping a la City or PSG... I'm pretty much convinced Juve have to win the CL in one of the next two years otherwise this will be a massive failure because it has consequences reaching further than football. There was a time when Milan was considered an elephant's graveyard. Looks like Juve could be following in those footsteps...
 
Could finish his career by getting in peoples Man Utd’s, Real Madrid’s & Juve’s All time XI, obviously he will need to go some to do it but I wouldn’t rule him out

Ronaldo jumps 6 feet high. All we have to do is bomb crosses all game Moyeseh style, and he’d easily get 40+ a season.

Zlatan came at age of 35 and scored 28 goals in a season. He would have scored the same in the next season if he had not got a critical injury.
With the fitness levels of Ronaldo and his goal scoring abilities, it is not such a big ask to score 33 goals a season on average.
 
Good move for him. Nothing left to prove in England or Spain. Lifestyle is similar to Spain, food is better. Nice to see he is still motivated to play at a relatively high level

Look, he had a very successful last 3 seasons, especially since he worked out that winning the CL was/is his best bet of getting the Balon D'Or. But of all the trophies he had won, he was an important but not singularly crucial part of it. Without Ramos's header in 2014, Real didn't win La Decima. Without fecking Eder scoring the winning goal, he would end up with the same international trophy haul as Freddy Adu. Last year he made the difference against Juve, followed by 2 terrible semi legs and the final which he was anonymous in. I'm not downplaying his achievements, it's amazing, but it has to be acknowledged that he had the best platform possible to achieve that, and when we still have Young/Valencia as fullbacks, Mata/Lingard as RM, Fellaini, Herrera, Matic in midfield, we won't win crap with him in that set up.

Juve could play 4231 versus easy teams, and 433 most of the games (Emre Can instead of Cuadrado).

We won't play like that even vs second division teams , would get killed on the sidelines. I doubt we will play without Mandzukic if we play with 2 midfielders.

At 37 years of age? Yes, he aged very, very well but it is simply naive to not admit that there is much risk involved. Madrid controlled his minutes verywell and it may have cost them the league title. He may be as dangerous as he's now when he's on the pitch but even Ronaldo has to pay tribute to his age and needs rest, will fight with injuries etc. Especially in the exhausting PL, the league in which even young and super fit players get to their limits.

If Ramos plays it's a much different game, Ronaldo was completely neutralized in that match.

I think Madrid will have an easier time replacing Ronaldo (he was a ghost in the entire semi final and final and Madrid managed to win anyway) than Ronaldo will in getting the best midfield in the world behind which is something Juventus don't have.

I think Madrid will fare better next season than Juventus will. Juventus is an aging squad and while Madrid is as well, they still have a ton of money to spend on strengthening their squad.

Well it's true, but at juve he will have way more possibilities to rest during the league given the gap between juve and at least 10 other teams

First of all there is no official involvement of FCA (FIAT formerly) or better say EXOR which is the majority shareholder of Juventus and FCA among others. If there was, it would have been published since Juve and EXOR are listed in Borsa Italiana. Second if FCA or whatever company decides to sponsor a deal or athlete it's because there is an economic return on that investment ( ex. more car sales) not because they are Juve fans. In fact Juve have always been a self-financed club, even what Jeep gives them as a shirt sponsor are peanuts. And last FIAT workers are some of the best treated workers in Italy, compared to what some other even more qualified workers experience in Italy so they have little to complain about as it doesn't concern them whatsoever.

That's true but the initial post spoke about Ronaldo at United ;) Besides that, Ronaldo is brillant but I guess even he will struggle scoring goals while being on the bench which means that his need for being rested will negatively affect his total goal record. As I said, Juve is making a risky and pretty expensive bet that Ronaldo has at least three additional worldclass years in him. You don't pay 112 million Euro plus approximately 200+ million in wages for one or two years of world class performances. I mean, was there ever a striker who maintained this level beyond his 35th birthday? Wouldn't be surprised if Ronaldo is the first, however. I just wouldn't bet almost 400 million Euros on it.

yes and no. Juve's bet is way more focused on the commercial advantages that Ronaldo brings to the table than just the technical ones/ If only technical and tactical considerations were relevant Juve would never have invested so much money. Ronaldo's success will be measured more in terms of how much he will help growing Juve's brand and commercial revenues rather than how many goals he will score which of course will also be important, but not the most important thing.
 
Sad news... I wanted to see him back at United, even that late into his career. Why we didn't try to get him?
