Re: his legacy. One of his problems is having played for three clubs people generally don't like. Look at how much more affectionate people tend to be about his international career.

People will rightly look on him as a super god when he finally ends his career.
Which big club is generally liked? :D

I don't see any defensive approach in this year Juventus.

They've become much more free flowing in the past couple of games but there have been some horrible attacking games too and they're still defensive minded. The past game against Bologna very much looked like a Allegri type performance more than a Sarri one, especially after Bentancur and Matuidi came on to close up shop.

They need Douglas Costa and Ramsey to stop continuously getting injured but that seems to be asking too much. There's no reason why this team shouldn't be scoring 5 or 6 goals in a game from time to time against the bottom tier teams rather than always scraping by with 1 goal wins.

Barcelona seem to get a lot of neutral goodwill, Madrid are the United of La Liga haha. AC Milan are well liked too (haven't been big for over a decade though). Dortmund are very popular but are they big enough to be 'big'? The one club league teams are usually hated (PSG, Bayern, Juventus)

Did the press conference for the CL match, gives some insight on the changes for Juve with Sarri coming in and his future.

It’s quite incredible how he performs like this, yet he and his fans still act like him not winning all the individual awards this year is some type of scandal.

So you show up for the bad performances, but what about the many good games he had this year? Think Juve most important game thus far vs inter where he was brilliant.

I think Messi is a better player, but Ronaldo is an incredible player he scares the shit out of any defence, want him, as a CF, in my team always, got to love and respect him.

He was poor today but the way Juve play - so disjointed and laboured doesn’t help any of their attackers.

No wonder Dybala only has 8 goals in like 46 games in the CL for them. They barely create any chances and their build up play around the area lacks any sort of fluidity. It’s like they have no imagination so either lump poor crosses into the box or rely on individual brilliance like tonight.

I don’t see how this team improved from when Allegri coached them.

I love watching him off the ball. His gravitational pull is immense in attack.

Literally noone said he deserves to win individual awards this year, let alone call it a scandal.

And he didn't play that badly at all today given the circumstances he was in, Juve were atrocious and had no attacking fluidity or ideas.

What's incredible is how a Barcelona fan can overcriticize his performances with a straight face when he's been european champion more times in under a decade than your club in over a century. Maybe it's time to rethink who you criticize...

He didn’t outright say it, but he snubs the award ceremony at the last minute and then he and Portugal NT put out these cryptic instagram posts right after the winner is announced as if he was robbed of it or something.

That’s not even accurate, but it’s an interesting point considering all the Sporting and United fans that attack Messi around here when he actually has more European Cups than both those clubs put together.

He is almost 35! Even though he is incredibly fit it’s probably wise to give him a rest now and again.
That's sensible. Didn't realize he was 35 but that's probably due to the botox.

As a football fan, I never agreed that Madrid would sell to Ronaldo last year. This year was the one. I think that age will begin to take its toll on their numbers as a scorer.

Might not be a top 3 player in the world atm.

Doesn't need to be in fairness.

He's 34 and he'll be 35 soon enough.

The fact that he's anywhere near the best and is part of the conversation at that age is enough, especially given the type of player he is and the league he's playing in.

A player without acceleration/speed in a league like Serie A where defense is a huge part of the game (bigger than Prem/La Liga for sure) is gonna find it harder. At 34/35 I'd expect him to slow down.

Honestly at this point just appreciate the good games him and Leo have cause we ain't got that many more if we're all honest. They've been utterly amazing beyond belief for so long, it's time to appreciate them both slowing down.

Who would you put ahead of him?

If your team was heading to a CL final right now which other 2 players would you take over Ronaldo?

Genuine question.

I think he definitely is, but so what if he isn’t? At his age anything he does now is basically a bonus. I think Sarri will manage him perfectly and he’ll show people up again in the knock out stages.

The "ronaldo is past it" appears every season at this time... and then at the turn of the year he goes up 5 gears .

I mean, it’s not like he’s showing any significant signs of physical decline yet, If anything people are saying that he looks more agile than ever.

Has any footballer in the history of the game been among the best players for 13 fecking years?

Messi was not among the best in 2006. Either way this is the Ronaldo thread.

What does that mean? Youre not allowed to be called out on spouting nonsense?

Balon Dor from 2006.

Messi and Ronaldo both in the top 20, neither of them near the top. They were both considered very good but not amongst the very best. 2007 would be different however with Cristiano 2nd znd Leo 3rd.

Will carry on a few more years too, his consistency is unbelievable.

I think this partly answers the question (or the broader question about longevity, although the data's not perfect). Pélé announced himself in the '58 World Cup as one of the best players in the world at 18, and was crowned the best player of all-time 12 years later after scoring "1000" goals and reminding the world in 1970 he was O Rei. He was still topping the scoring charts 3 years later, but yeah, even the very best step down off that perch.

GOAT doing GOAT things.

Fun fact of the day Juve have 11 less points in the games without Ronaldo.

Scores a goal in the last breath, celebrates, goal is invalidated.

Gets up, invents a penalty by himself, scores it.

He didn't give up and honestly he deserved this, even though he wasn't good in front of goal today.
