Cristiano Ronaldo | Signs for United! Fcuk City

Which is the sensible approach. No sane fan of any club would not take a player of his calibre. If they did, you would seriously have to question their sanity.
Depends on the cost and the length of the contract. I’d definitely be happy to have him back but not on half a million a week for 4 years.

I was so against signing him back but he is just so good. I would almost guarantee that he’d out score any Martial season even now.

it’d worry me if we did plump on signing him back but fecking hell, he’s brilliant!!!

First of all, the Ryan Giggs at 40 player, was he honestly as good as the 20-25 year old R. Giggs player?

If he was to return - and I see a faint possibility that if all your main targets fall through, the board push ahead with this re-signing of a legend, to appease the fans, but I agree that would be terrible.

But I have come on here to type this point, because I just can't get my head around it: What is Ronaldo's net worth would you say? I bet because of not just his ability, but his longevity and his 'image', during a time when football finances have gone off the scale crazy: a billion £s maybe? Certainly a billion US dollars.

So why, in the name of bezeezus, doesn't he say: "I'd love to do a year or two at MUFC, because I owe them pretty much everything, I will do it for £100,000 a week to be paid not to me, but charities that the club already support e.g. Marcus Rashford's free kids meals one".

* He gets to finish where it pretty much started (I was on holiday in a little town in Scotland in summer 2003 actually and I think I saw him on Man Utd. debut on TV in a pub, a pre-season friendly and I thought, he seems 'quite good' but does lots of step-overs!).

* Utd's board & accountants would actually consider it - they aren't going to risk another Sanchez situation, in my opinion and pay anything like his current wages.

* It would make him look good: Selfless. Plus Utd. could have Ronaldo and other expensive additions to the team as well.

* Finally, he could easily do it! He has more money than he will ever need, even for life of luxury for himself and his children and their children too. I mean look at this comparison for a moment: because of the way he has looked after himself or maybe his genes or starting 3 years later than Wayne Rooney, he has already had 3-4 more years earning top-whack, than the English man and perhaps he should reflect on that and consider something revolutionary, like my idea.

Otherwise, just do a year in China on a million dollars a week and I for one will breathe under my breath: "you greedy winker....".

Giggs at 40 was a very different player but still very good at what was asked of him. The fact that he was still playing at the top level at that age is the important part. Players with pace tend to burn out quickly so being able to adapt his game and still be valuable was special.

The rest of your post is interesting but seems far fetched.

I mean, we literally have Juve fan here saying he wouldn't mind seeing their best scorer go elsewhere because it's not reasonable to build the team around him at his age, but yet United fans are still all over him at any price, with so many other problems all around the team.

I mean, he was pretty much invisible for 88 minutes, apart from comically missing a sitter in the first half.
Well if invisibility is what got him to where he is then I hope more players aim to be as "invisible" as he is on the pitch. I don't get why players are constantly being judged based on one performance.

He isn't Juve's problem and you're smart enough to know that.

A minority of United fans.

I couldn't care less, I hardly watch Juve. I am just repeating what person who watches them regulary says. There's also the fact that Juve have never been worse since Ronaldo went there after they've built the team around him.

His Euro record is a great achievement but lets not pretend he has scored them all against Germany, France, Italy, England, Spain or Belgium. His goals have came against low ranking nations excluding his 3 against the Netherlands.

Greece x1
Netherlands x3
Czech Republic x2
Wales x1
Hungary x4

Who cares what some random individual thinks. You analyze the merits of a Ronaldo transfer on our situation, not Juve's.

Many sane United fans said the same. Even Real Madrid didn't offer him big money few years ago, nor any other team except Juve who were stupid enough, it's not just one random individual. We'll see next year, but many of us said Juve are making the wrong move two years ago, while standardd Ronaldo crowd laughed at us, and look who turned out to be right.

Only United will be stupid enough to offer him big money and long contract next year, other option is something like MLS, no serious team in Europe will offer him what he wants, because everyone has realised by now that one player is not more important than other ten.

He's still one of the best players in the world (we have no one of his calibre on the books at the moment). Juve's lack of success probably doesn't have anything to do with the guy who scored 101 goals for them in three seasons.

Maybe they should instead evaluate why they brought in mediocre players in various other positions like Arse/Chelsea rejects Szczesny, Ramsey, and Morata, why they kept an underperforming Dybala on the books for so long, spent so much on players like De Ligt et al. The arguments that Juve haven't won because they have one of the best players in the world on their roster are simply naive and don't take into consideration other moves Juve could've taken to build a proper world class squad.

Can we afford to get him AND also get signings in other areas in midfield and defense?

They had even bigger rejects before when they were winning Scudettoo and playing CL finals. They had Mandzukic, Dani Alves, Khedira, Barzagli, that same Dybala, in CL final two years before Ronaldo came there, plus few other average player all around.

They never had even close proper world class squad and they were still better team than they are now, same as we don't have anyhwere near world class squad now, and just signing Ronaldo to solve our all problems is really not the way forward.

I don't really want to argue if he is one of the best players in the world or not, just for comparision I like Messi far more than Ronaldo and even though he is in even better form in last half a year or so, I don't want him to come here either for ridiculous money on long term contract because it will mean we haven't learn a thing from previous years.

To sum up, you said it yourself, just replace Juventus with United, and those few players with our few underperforming players and ask yourself if we have good enough squad to sacrifice our build up around Ronaldo?

Maybe they also should not have gotten Pirlo and stuck with him for so long, their last two manager choices have been poor

I'm a huge Ronaldo fan but I think moving to United is not a right move for him as well as United. We are a young team playing a certain style of football. Getting Ronaldo would mean setting up the team to get the best out of him. Ronaldo is already a legend at United and a second spell ending poorly will only tarnish his image.

PSG would be the ideal team for him. He could easily score 100 goals for them over 3-4 seasons. He could be the only player to ever do it in 4 different leagues. He will also win multiple domestic league titles and cups. He will be guaranteed CL football as well. It depends on what PSG have in mind. A front three of Ronaldo, Mbappe and Neymar would be tempting for them.

Will never understand the "come home" yada yada. He's 36 and gave his best years to Real Madrid. He's still a good player but come on.. move on

Barca is getting worse by building a team around Messi in recent years, so he is their problem and they should dump him too? Weird logic.

Actually I agree with this. Best move for Ronaldo at this stage of his career is moving to PSG. Chances to score many more goals, break new records, keep winning trophies, conquer new league and chances of CL glory. Truth is he had nothing more to prove in PL, already been there done it all. Moving to France in his retiring years would be best option for him.

Juve needed a complete rebuild, but they bought Ronaldo when he became the ultimate poacher.

The ultimate poacher would do quite well for United. I'd definitely be all for it. Can have:
Ronaldo
Rashford Bruno Sancho
Midfield whatever
Shaw Maguire Meh AWB
Whoever
And rotate Cavani and Greenwood in. Problem would be the front 3 really does very little defensively, but Sancho helps loads with build up and creativity to balance out Rashford and Ronaldo. Would have to be a very hard working and defensively sound midfield duo though.

Best player of all time. What he does isn’t often as pretty as Messi with his jinking runs and low centre of gravity but he’s had a better career at all levels in multiple leagues. It’s not even close IMO because “best” player doesn’t mean “most talented” it means the person who’s had the biggest impact, won the most, broken records, scored the most etc.

Also he’s gonna go on to 40, isn’t he?
Yeah. It was definitely tied for a bit. Then Ronaldo won 4 CL titles in 5 years and the Euros in that span. In terms of the highest peak, that'll go to Messi for 2012 especially. Insane. He's the GOAT in terms of peak level, as he was basically perfect as both a scorer and creator. In terms of career, Ronaldo wins.

Our team is better than Juve's by quite a margin IMO, so we wouldn't be building the team around him.

On decent wages, I'd take him back. Doubt he wants to return though.
