Very complicated on many levels.

1. I don't disagree with anything Ronaldo says. He is not wrong in the points regarding the club and the set-up.
2. BUT - he should never have been signed.
3. It was clear that Ole didn't want him. The signing was the end of Ole at the club.
4. Ronaldo is saying all this now as he is stuck. No club wanted him in the summer. So he is pushing for a release. Good luck to him.
5. Well done Ten Haag for taking no shit.
6. The captaincy was major trolling. Well done again Ten Haag.

The final point is in all seriousness - Ronaldo also lost his son last year. We think of these sportsmen as larger than life or robots but they are human. I'm sure his wife doesn't want to be in Manchester. I hope that he gets his move after the World Cup.
 
Feck him and his opinions. Boot him out of the club ASAP and let him take this circus someplace else.
 
The best scenario is for Portugal's coaching staff to be brave and drop Ronaldo from the team on the basis of his form. It's not correct to wish Portugal to suffer due to Ronaldo.

Just been watching Morgan on TalkShite. He mentions that Ten Hag is very good at saying one thing behind closed doors compared to in public. It definitely sounds like Ten Hag is going to have a lot of shit taken on this. I really hope it doesnt affect him at the club now because I actually feel ETH has bent over backwards for Ronaldo. Ever since the storming off I think he played in every game since (except Chelsea obviously).

Piers says he makes direct digs at the Glazers in the full interview. Presumably about their ambition given his issue with the facilities etc.

I am happy he is open about how the Glazers have not put any money in to our infrastructure etc. I also have some sympathy with him about what happened to his girl, but I think most of the blame for the reaction and the perception on this situations fully lies with his own guys like Mendes.
Nevertheless this surely must mean Ronaldo is done at United. And he has firmly destroyed any kind of legacy with us now.

The crux of the matter is Ronaldo has been shit on the pitch and has spat his dummy out as he’s been benched. Shit happens. We all get older and slower.

Ronaldo has played this completely wrong. It's a shame and annoying. These are issues which should be discussed and resolved without public scrutiny. There will always be players who have significant issues and opinions about their club.

He should not talk or quote Sir Alex, because this type of external drama absolutely contradicts what Sir Alex stands for.

This is a club of Edwards, Law, Best, Charlton...to Whiteside, Robson..man, I could go on and on... a club where players have lost their lives representing the club.

Ronaldo and his advisors should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

Piers alluded to him not coming on vs City and being asked to come on vs Spurs being an issue. If it's shit like that he's going to slate ETH for then I doubt anyone will take it seriously.

It doesn't really need saying that this should be the end for him here. If these are the pre-released quotes then I'm guessing there is worse to come from the full interview.

But also, if he really cared about Portugal he wouldn't be doing an explosive interview to be released days before a World Cup. Imagine the distraction that's going to cause in their squad, endless questions about him and his future especially if Bruno or Dalot are facing the media.

I still love it when he tries to show someone up on Good Morning Britain, and he asks them what's pythagoras theorem to 5 decimal places. Then he recites Pi, and a woman in the audience saids "That's pi!" he gets all flustered.

He's someone that tries his best to stay relevant. Today is literally Piers Morgans best day in about 20 years, that he thinks people really care about his opinion and he has to use a washed up Athlete to get an audience.

I bet that fair number of managers are thinking right now; "I hope that my owner will not be that stupid to sign Ronaldo".
 
Does anyone else feel like this is actually quite positive for United?

In terms of timing it is perfect. We have no games for a month now so this doesn’t cause any disruption in the dressing room ahead of a game. On top of that it comes on the back of a win gained through a piece of individual brilliance from a young emerging talent, so very little pressure on Ten Hag and if anything he looks vindicated for favouring youth.

For Ronaldo this adds pressure on his own performances just one week ahead of a World Cup, his last. It could also create a bit of an awkward situation with two of his international colleagues who are in favour at United. It’s hardly where you would want to see Ronaldo focusing his energy this close to a tournament if you’re a Portugal fan.

Due to this timing, there is zero chance this gets patched up between United and Ronaldo before the World Cup and in fact very unlikely to be reconciled at all. Ronaldo will have played his last game for the club and by releasing this interview he will only have accelerated United’s planning for a short-term replacement in January, which was much needed anyway.

Finally, the icing on the cake is his condemnation of United’s facilities and lack of investment. It sounds as if he stopped short of taking direct aim at the Glazers which is a shame but the correlation is obvious. You will now hear ABUs like Piers Morgan and Ronaldo’s pals in the media repeating this, as it’s the only argument he has made that really holds any water.

All in all this is not a bad outcome for United and gives us a good opportunity to make a clear statement demonstrating that no player is bigger than the club. A statement we should really have made a year ago by passing up on the opportunity to bring him back.
 
This honestly really pisses me off. We finally have a progressive manager who looks like he is stearing us in the right direction and this prick has to come and poor a bucket of shit all over it.

The narrative has now shifted back to United are crap, behind their rivals bla bla bla. The idiots of course lap it up forgetting that he's attacking the very people trying to do something to get us back on top.

He just wants a manager to massage his ego and for him to be the focal point regardless. He cares nothing for the functionality of a team and only about his own personal glory. Biggest mistake of the post SAF period was bringing him back.
 
They have a relatively easy group on World Cup, because I'd love if he would flop totally there and not pass the group stage. He's the biggest cnut I've ever seen. We've regressed 2-3 years just because we signed him back.

I'd love that Ten Hag personally (as a club statement), goes out and says his career with us is over and he's never playing anymore for us.
 
Of all the people to go too that was a definate no no for me. Why not go to one of our's to have his interview, my gut feeling is that Ronaldo knew exactly what he was doing and what reaction he would be getting.
 
As a portuguese who used to idolize this guy, I find this interview completely insane and disrespectful. The guy has gone nuts and doing this right before a World Cup begins is just absolutely childish.
I must say though that the most embarrassing thing about the whole interview is the awful English Ronaldo is still speaking after so many years and I dont know how anyone will endure that for 90min straight.

Yep, a large section of United fans never had any pride with regard to Ronaldo. If he were still at Madrid and performing like that, he would've been booed regularly.

Your last point really is the only reason I'm not as enraged as some. Losing a child warrants some leeway in behaviour for me. However that doesn't mean we have to accept it as a club and grievances invented or otherwise should be dealt with behind closed doors.

Best for both parties to go separate ways as should have been the case in the summer.

Agreed. I suspect if Portugal want to have any ambition of going far into the WC, Ronaldo should be dropped.

Unfortunately, they do not have a manager with the balls to do so. Ronaldo will start at the WC.

It would make sense if he starts because they dont have talent but Portugal actually have good options up front.

All Ronaldo cares about is himself. He doesn't give one solitary shit about United, the club where he first made his name, or anyone else. He's a complete narcissistic loon who lacks a modicum of self awareness and empathy. I seriously think he's going to go even madder when he retires and even his most ardent fanboys stop giving him the attention he craves.
 
I have been generally supportive of him in his troubles and issues but feck me. Going against the manager is unacceptable. He should be immediately suspended until he is sold. United should come out and say it now. That he has been suspended with immediate effect.
