Nah, actually that doesn’t fit either.
He first laughed at teams like Napoli or Sporting being able to afford him. He then said that he had an amazing season (which is undisputed) which resulted in some offers — in the context these offers being from legit contenders for him unlike Napoli or Sporting — but he wanted to stay at Manchester. Right? I listened to it again, it’s definitely what he is saying.
100%, it can be him trying to rewrite history to suit his purpose. He comes across as a massive narcissist. People are complaining on Piers not asking him tough questions. What sticks out to me is that he on so so many occasion does not qualify what he says. “You say critique to me, I don’t understand why you hate. I don’t care, I use to it, I use, I don’t respect hater. I love the fans.” It’s never “he can call me out, I am not perfect, but I think it’s one sided”. He talks about these stuff for 90 minutes, and on like two occasions it’s “I am not perfect”.
But if he is sitting there totally 100% lying about something — which it seems like he does — it’s something else. That is nuts.
Or it’s true. I mean, it falls in the lap of people that we all think are incompetent. Right? And this just puts that on another dimension. Because then a “legend” of the club have ended up wrongly looking really bad — by everyone in the football world thinking he wants to leave us — when it’s in fact not true. They could easily have said “it’s news to us that he has requested a transfer to a CL team, what we in fact know is that he turned down offers because he wants to stay in Manchester”.

So how come - if what you say is true - did Manchester United put into their organisation structure a triumvirate comprising David Gill/Bryan Robson and Sir Alex Ferguson on the very day Ronaldo came back from his non-pre-season?

*Except the part about him never wanting to leave United in the summer. If that is true, it’s a pretty noteworthy piece of news that really change the context of a lot of things. If he were genuine about his concerns he would've made them known forcefully after arguably our worst league season in generations last season but he was starting every match and scoring goals so of course it wasn't of his concern.
