Is Ronaldo justified to say that he “feels betrayed” by Manchester United?

People who say we should pay him his contract off, IMO are wrong.

If Ronaldo wants to leave, it has to be contract termination with no pay out, so mutual termination.

If not, we tell him he has to train alone, if he doesn't, keep giving him fines and recover wages that way. We should not be paying him £20m to leave the club.

If he wants that, we should keep him but not play him until the summer. We need to show him the disrespect he wants to see.

Not only are they wrong but it's a poor business decision. If United hold any asset and the said player desires to leave all that would be required is for them to do the same thing essentially and then go and sign on a free elsewhere.

Ronaldo cannot play for the first team again neither will train with them I would imagine. It's either he's sold in winter or a termination where he buys himself out of his contract is issued. Another alternative which is nonconcurrent to the commercial side is if they decide to sue him for defamation which I don't think it would happen, nevertheless the club certainly have a case for it.

Madeira’s ex-President: “This anti-Ronaldo campaign is Portugal at its worst: jealousy, ungratefulness and badmouthing the most famous Portuguese person ever, who is from Madeira! Not a nerd from Lisbon. Ronaldo, tell them to f*** off!”

Jokes on him. @Arruda isn't from Lisbon?

I wonder if Ronaldo being sick is something to do with United and contract negotiations?

Either that or negotiations with a new club i'd imagine. Either way would be good as it means the end draws closer.

Thats the no.7 legends poster isn't it? Probably just replacing it as they frequently do.

Could be but I think the club are also rightly starting the process of removing him from official media. The United youtube channel has a couple of videos of Rashford and Martial being interviewed and Ronaldo is never mentioned or shown.

Ronaldo has bigger things to do than train with Portugal. He has to watch the reaction to the interview video with plain popcorn and water over at Piers Morgan's house.

Why mutual termination? He is our asset who was payed 15 mil (plus signing on fee, wages, agent...). Why let him go free? His has market value and he is the one who wants to leave. So we should and we must demand transfer fee from his future club. Unless he wants to play 6 months for reserves and be fined every time when he refuses.

We have upper hand here, not him.

I get what you're saying, sort of letting him have his way, but I think this could be a huge distraction to the club when we need to focus. It would be nice to get "revenge" but maybe we should just get rid and move on.

At the end he must go for sure. But we can (at least) try to play "who will blink first". He is 37. Can he afford to not play six months? I think not. He is losing much more than we do if he stays.

Too sick to play the last few games at United then rocks up with the Portugal NT and now too sick to join in the team training.

This is a tad shortsighted. No one wants to pay for him, otherwise we would have sold him in the summer. His value has clearly decreased now after playing terribly and being an absolute cnut, so its harder to imagine we could actually sell him. I think that possibility has to be removed as realistic at this point.

So we're left with:

1 - Keep him and try to play him (impossible at this point)
2 - Keep him and not play him at all (we pay his massive wages)
3 - Terminate his contract (likely still need to pay his massive wages legally)
4 - Mutual termination (we don't need to pay his massive wages)

I'd take 4 any day of the week at this point...I just don't think he'd agree to it because he could be left without a team and without a salary. Which only further proves hes unsellable...if there was a team would happily jump on a free Ronaldo with just a large way bill.

I really struggle to understand how anyone thinks that Ronaldo brings a significant amount of money to United. United accountant is the last person that wants Ronaldo at United. Ronaldo has no short term impact on broadcasting revenues, he isn't good enough to see us gain prize money, United haven't signed new commercial deals linked to Ronaldo, shirt sales are stable and a marginal source of revenue, even if we pretended that without Ronaldo United would sell zero shirt, the difference is around 20-30m excluding production costs.

Remember last summer when only a club from Saudi Arabia wanted him?

Unless that club wants him still then we aren’t getting money for him.a

I think we should pursue all legal avenues to sack him for breach on contract and not pay him a cent but we’ll be saddled with him if we try and just sell him because nobody in their right mind wants him.

If i was Portuguese, i would be very angry on him. NT going on World cup and then he brings all this pressure. Selfish prick

We should replace it with a picture of Messi holding his 7 Ballon d'ors.
:nono::nono:
We don't go from one fanboy to another. We shouldn't be bothered about what Messi is or is not. Whatever feelings Ronaldo has for Messi has nothing to do with us.

Have you seen the posts by some of the Portuguese posters here? Their god can do no wrong and its everyone's fault but his apparently.

Not necessary tbh, it just showed my age (or yours )

Tell me about it. Was playing football the other day and started talking about Seba Veron to a few of the youngsters. They didn't have a clue who I was on about.

There is a chance that he stays in Qatar. They have money and Football clubs, so if they make a good impression maybe he will like the idea.

You have to wonder who is doing Ronaldo's PR.

"Yeah Ronnie, what you wanna do, is go on the show of a guy famous for faking war crime stories and being sacked by a national newspaper, and slag off everyone at your current employer before heading off for the World Cup. That will deffffo go well

Someone will definitely take you on midseason for huge wages, despite no-one you deemed worthy enough wanting to do it in the summer".

We should be looking at tearing up his contract! Playing in the reserves for 500k a week is still a negative for us, when we could sign a new forward.

The team who were offering us 20m or so and him about 2m a week would be the best option.

I still wouldn't bet against a really awkward post world cup and this lingering on, and him eventually realising he better shape up and do some massive apology or realise he won't be playing for anyone for 6 months.

Bar that mad Qatari club paying for him, the best we can hope for is a release without us having to cover massive wages.

Knowing us though, we'll have to whack 10m into the deal.

It's not a PR but a "for the love of god fire me" move. And if United agree to pay parts of his wage, I can guarantee you that a lot of clubs will try to get him including clubs that are in the CL. The issue for him is that his current wage eliminates almost everyone.

That team is from Saudi Arabia.

There is about 14m remaning on his contract which runs out in the summer, half of that should be possible by even the most incompetent negotiator.

Reminds me of the Keane meltdown in some ways. End the contract now and move on, force the Glazers to shell out for a couple of forwards in Jan and we will be in a better place.

It's a strange one with him as you'd assume he'd play for free such is his determination to increase his goal record. Yet I'm not sure his ego would allow him to accept not being highly paid.

Be interesting to see if he goes for huge money over football. For the first time he'll have to make that choice.

He wants to top everything. Wages, goals, trophies. Everything.

Honestly starting to believe it's Mendes floating negotiation rumours to trigger a panic buy among their rivals. The likes of Bayern seem confused they are even being mentioned. I don't know how many times clubs are going to have to deny him. Very consistently too.

He’s finished at United.

Of course he is. Its just a matter of money now.

Lots of commentary saying mutual termination and try and not pay him off but I say feck him and his plastic head and look for the angle where we can get money from him.

Employers have to follow process but so do employees. A business the size of United will have grievance procedures and possibly NDAs

This will get messy legally I bet but it's safe to bet he has played his last match for United.

Good riddance

This makes sense.

So let him speak up then. Except he won't, because he has never, to my knowledge, said anything to upset the Glazers (why bite the hand that feeds you) and despite this poster thing today, I bet the owners will still hope Ronaldo will play again for United (even though he shouldn't). Having him in the squad and on the pitch frequently gives the team a superstar name that matters to the owners (and their accountants) even if it hurts the team's performance overall.
fecking hell how do you keep getting promoted? We have a new Oleboii here mods.

I'm actually from Azores, which is, along with Madeira, one of the two autonomous regions of Portugal.

Very common for politicians of these regions to pin any problem we have in continental Portugal and the dude being quoted ruled Madeira (democratically, and always with full majority) for 37 years on the back of this sort of discourse.

It's just cheap populism because it works in these islands. In truth, we are deficitary regions whose quality of living is sustained in part by continental Portugal and the European Union.

Just read that like if you were reading a Brexiteer talking about the EU.

He's actually funny in his ways, and most of the times he refers, disparingly, to continental Portugal as "the rectangle".
