Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

Basically he played his best stuff at Real, came back as a geriatric and then jumped ship. Hardly legendary stuff.

Yeah. Ronaldo only cares about himself and no sense of loyalty to any club in football. Several top players remained with Juventus when they got relegated, but god forbid Ronaldo plays in the EL on 500K a week.

Wages aren't a problem, they'll make it back in shirt sales
Firstly that's definitely not true and secondly it's massively detrimental to the culture of a club and a dressing room to bring someone in on wages so out of line with everyone else's due to commercial opportunities and past performances.

Simon Stone: "Ronaldo clashed with Harry Maguire over the United captaincy last season, while interim boss Ralf Rangnick's desire to implement a pressing game was thwarted by Ronaldo's refusal to fit in with such a system."

People are fools thinking Ronaldo will ever think about anything other than Ronaldo. “He loves the club, but” just go and good luck.

True but I don't think he makes other players better so could be part of the issue. They may return to some form without him leading the line. A Juve veteran said that when Ronaldo was there the other players dropped their leve as they mostly left it to him . Might change when he bounces.

So he's single handedly made the like of 'Arry, Rashy, Shaw, and AWB played like buffoons.

Totally make sense.

Timing here by Ronaldo is just awful. I think we'd be better off with a striker who works a lot harder even if this replacement scores a few less goals. But at this point in the window, how are we going to replace him?
It would be truly awful if he leaves us at the last day of transfer window. We still have 2 months to sort out new signings, its not the end of the world....yet

Is it credible that CR7 wanted to take captaincy from Maguire? If so, his transfer back here was a really poor decision as many worried a year ago.

This could also be Ronaldo pressuring United to make signings. The club seem to have a lack of direction and no signings have been made yet.
No direction what?
We’re due to sign at least 2 players this week!

I'm not really fussed about the captaincy but it was easy to see Ronaldo was a liability without the ball and his refusal to help Rangnick implement a pressing game should hopefully see him depart the club. Everyone has to defend and everyone has to attack in Erik ten Hag's approach to the game.

Great to see him back for one season but I am sure there would be some push back from him jf things don't go his way under Erik so I reckon it would be best if he moves on

Yea i concur.

Like Shaw has been suspect for the entirety of his time he. He has only really had one acceptable season in recent memory (2021). AWB has NEVER been good enough so nothing new. Arry I never rated. he was never the man to lead our backline. He gets called out at some point every season. Rashford was bad last season but still able to score when Ronaldo werent there (2021). Hardly any of the players you named were performing well in 2021 season either so I don't quite know why you singled them out as if much has changed.

Might've (probably) already been said but fecked if I'm reading this thread.

My gut is this ends with us getting some deals done quickly from this point and Ronaldo staying. And us
winning the treble this season.

Partly because I cannot think of who signs Ronaldo, partly because I think this is pressure on the board from a player who knows he still gets cheered this season even if he says this and partly because I've had a bottle of red wine and 4 double Hennessy and cokes.

Why would he wait until now to let the club know that he wants out? If he loves the club so much surely he would have let them know weeks ago to give them the best chance to sort out a replacement

In italy all talks about this since 2 months, the news in England arrived 2 months later

Because Mendes offered Ronaldo to Juve, and Juve told this, privately, to all journalists

Why?

They say he is interested in his stats/record in Champions League and playing in Europa League is a “image damage”

They say he asked to come back to Juve without pretending particular game time, willing to help the squad

Rumors also about joining Roma, seems Mendes offered him to Roma as well
But here i dont see any particular reason to join another europe league side

If we have a plan to replace him fair enough but I very much doubt we do

Who would he realisitically sign for this summer? Has to be a club in CL. His options are limited.

Might have had say Chelsea or Bayern make an offer to his agent?

Equally likely he might not want to go and people are making it up for clicks ?

It sucks. But I totally get it, why would an all time great want to spend his last years fighting to try to emulate the achievements of 2017 Arsenal?

Agree. But the division of the dressing room is equally critical. We came back from losing position so many times before and last season became such a disjointed team on pitch.
it’s good for the team if he leaves.

The last tweet is obviously bollocks because if he had kicked up a fuss in January, the club would very much have expected him to leave in the summer or be lot more set on leaving as things went downhill from then.
So the rest of his tweets are bollocks too.

It’s funny how all these journos are now suddenly getting ITK stories today. So he sat on that potential bombshell for months? Before anyone says it’s a brief. His side are hardly going to brief that he acted up in January and we aren’t either when we’ve just basically come out and said we intend to keep him.

Steve Bates is full of shit. The opportunistic ABU cnut.

Assuming he does leave ….wondering who is left to score goals?

That doesn't sound good at all. You know there is a power struggle at the club when a player decides he'd be a better captain and questioning the manager's system. Sheer arrogance and we'd be better off without him.

Assuming there is any truth to this rumour of course.

I agree, and from what's being reported by Simon Stone, he also contributed to causing low morale in the dressing room. And I don't care what anyone says, if you can't give the bare minimum, then you need to leave.

I'll be extremely happy if he leaves.

One explanation is that he would've been reluctant to come out as strong as he seemingly does now before some kind of deal was on the cards: without any serious takers (that he fancies), he doesn't want to come out and say that he wants out.

The fact that this comes out now (unless it's all bollocks, of course, but there seems to be rather too much smoke here) indicates that Mendes has lined up something concrete and that Ronaldo is now pushing 100% for a move (like he did last year while at Juventus).

Only two realistic options. Bayern would make sense for a year for both parties especially if leodowski ends up at Barcelona. I'd rather he didnt play for another english club.

Why Rashford and Martial are still at United? These two are much worse than Ronaldo comes to defending/pressing.
Does it mean they they also didn't agree to "help Ragnick implement a pressing game"??

Yep the effect in the dressing room if he doesn’t go now is a concern for me too. Far from ideal, but a quick sale would be the best option in my view now if he really does want out.

Ronaldo just comes across as a knob.

Many agree with you, me included. First and foremost, this is a team sports!

Ronaldo cares most about Ronaldo, still a legend and love him to bits but this reunion happened 5 years too late.

To be honest Maguire has no right to be our club captain. But yeah it's not up to Ronaldo to decide
