We need to get rid of him.

He offers nothing and is a major distraction on the club.

He offers nothing? What he can offer when his teammates do not create chances for him? He is feeding off scraps! It is unbelievable how clueless the team is in creating chances. We are too slow on moving the ball and and the team struggle to attack at speed.

We had one good game before he joined and that was the opening one to Leeds (a team half of the league blow away anyway). We were absolutely abysmal against Southampton & particularly Wolves before he even played a minute for us last season.

That Southampton game in particular I’m certain we’d have won if he was playing. We played better than them, and they got a fortune goal after Bruno dwelling on the ball and getting dispossessed on the edge of his box (the first of a fair few last season), but we missed a number of chances. Cavani had given himself a holiday in Uruguay at the time too, but we should have won.

He’s not gonna pull a rabbit out of a hat. This ain’t a magic show.

He won't.

He's not going to get better and he doesn't want to be here.

It's a shame no top club wants him. We should move on. It's best for both parties.

He pulled a Bruno on the 1st goal. Tried to buy a cheap free kick in a dangerous area where you can't afford to lose the ball, rolled around pretending to be injured while the opposition were on the attack so we're down to 10 men.

Also incredibly selfish shooting from distance every chance he gets.

I felt he did alright considering what he had to work with. He's still a monster header of the ball.

I'm shocked anyone can come up with positives from that performance. He constantly fell over at the slightest touch, didn't get the free kicks he was looking for and just lost possession instead. He was culpable in our first conceded goal.

He offered nothing in attack. Opting to take potshots 30 yards from goal and ignoring teammates in better positions. It's a performance that deserves immediate dropping over, but we've nobody better.

I wonder what effect it had on the mood of the squad when Ronnie spends pre season looking for a new club than walks straight into the team when season starts? Not an excuse for the team who needs to do better regardless of course.
I know we are short of options up front with Martial out but it kind of feels like a missed opportunity to show that no one is bigger than the club

Suddenly Ruud Gullit's comment about us living in the past feels so apt

Are you sure that 1st goal is Ronaldo's fault? It looks like a slow rolling shot on goal that DDG should have had. We may as well play with 11 outfield players as to blame anyone other than DDG for that. Kind of makes the rest of your post seem a bit suspect.

I didn't say the conceded goal was his fault, but rather that he deserves some blame for it. We conceded our first from Ronaldo falling over at the slightest touch and losing the ball. What happened after is all on De Gea, but it started with Ronaldos inability to keep possession. This was a major problem yesterday and for large parts of last season as well.

There's nothing suspect with my post. It's exactly what happened yesterday. Don't start making things up to peddle your agenda. Ronaldo is tackled, loses the ball, feigns an injury and Bournemouth get a shot off.

Yes. And if the goalkeeper can't stop that shot, then we should just start with 11 outfield players. I glad we agree that DDG was the person at fault.

Seems like Ronaldo is playing more defense. Doesn't seem to be helping the defense. I presume Rashford etc are also playing more defense also...not helping.

It's pathetic, all those quotes bigging him up and telling the media he isn't for sale served no purpose. Ten Hag should've let him rot in the stands till at least the end of the transfer window. LVG did it with De Gea when he wanted to go in 2015 and he was far more professional.

I underestimated the negative impact of Ronaldo boycotting summer training. But before going there, Ronaldo was not at fault for the first goal -- it was a nothing ball that De Gea obviously should have saved, if we can even use the word "save" to describe the action required to prevent the ball from rolling to the back of the net. And it was Ronaldo who kept his head up when everyone else downed tools after the second goal.

Not that I'm sure any top club would take Ronaldo on a free transfer now and it's clear that Ronaldo is not going to a bottom feeding club, but we should have made Ronaldo available on a free. And if there were no takers, Ronaldo should have been sent to the bench for dishonoring United. But of course Martial is now for however long so we have no natural goal scorer. It's easy enough to say we should have brought in a striker and maybe we should have, but who?

I know we had bigger issues yesterday but I don't think he should be anyway near the starting lineup. He essentially went on strike for the entirety of pre-season and we've just let him waltz right back into the team. I could understand it if this was the Ronaldo of 5/10 years ago but it isn't, he offered absolutely nothing yesterday.

Sky sports news reporting we are considering cancelling his contract unless we see a major change in his attitude...

Bad attitude or not, I still can't see Martial being a better option upfront

How are we to ever get anywhere when these twats keep interfering. How are they so stupid that they don't realize by now.

Our problem is a collective attitude problem. How can you not see that getting rid of players with a bad attitude, even if they are the best players in the squad (and 37 year old Ronaldo is not close to that), that it is still better for the group that they leave.

Maybe it's just a coincidence. But the second Ronaldo got reintroduced to the squad this pre season, it's been a complete disaster at the club. 1 month of peace and seemingly good team spirit while he was out. Get rid of him. Asap. However which way. Just get him out of the club.

Ideally, de Gea, McTominay, Maguire, Shaw, Jones would follow him out too, but anyway.

Whether or not Ronaldo was at fault for the goal, his inability to hold the ball under pressure and bring others into play with his back to goal is an obvious concern, and it’s one of the things that allows teams to squeeze our team incredibly effectively. Having all the technical players in the build up obviously helps bring the ball out from the back, but you need an outball when the opposition is executing an aggressive press well. Ronaldo’s complete absence in that regard has been a real surprise to me. His body must be crumbling at this point because he’s terrified of a physical battle these days.

No it obviously didn’t help us bring the ball out from the back yesterday.

Maybe all these new formations are just confusing as to who does what? Anyway, the announcers used to talk about a “striker’s tackle” and it wasn’t a compliment. The forwards may be assisting the defense more now, but I don’t imagine they’d be that good at it.

Yeah I can definitely see how bringing strikers into the defensive game in deeper areas can create more risks, in the same way playing risky possession football in your area like Jorginho today creates more risks.

In this case though, it’s nothing to do with Ronaldo’s defensive game, it’s his offensive game. That’s old school failures there. Alan Shearer would be embarrassed if he have the ball back to the opposition like that from a throw in.

That first goal was on DDG for sure. That shot shouldn't find the back of the net against any professional goalie. DDG had an absolute mare, that's not up for discussion.
All our players gave the ball away too easily on Saturday, so can't blame Ronaldo too much for doing it too. He also involved himself in the game and made some nice plays, but he showed some terrible decisionmaking with the ball in his feet, shooting from 25+ yards when he has several good runs around him is just horrible and kind tells you that he plays more for himself than for the team. He killed some decent moves with that nonsense on Saturday. He's still pressing too little and he sucks the energy out of everyone with his bodylanguage, gestures and face throughout the game.

The disrespect he's shown the fans and club this summer has no limits.
It's going to take time to make this team look good again, but the sooner he's gone the better.

If he's carrying on like this we need to get rid asap. He doesn't want to be there and is being disruptive. He certainly shouldn't be starting and I don't think he would be if we'd an fit strikers.

I don't ever remember that being Ronaldo's strong suit, though I suppose he can knock a ball down. People would always describe he as NOT being someone who played in that fashion, so it's not terribly surprising he isn't doing it now either. Fortunately (?) we're terrible at crosses, so it's not a big need either.

Hopefully ETH knows the basics about his players, though that's not obvious at the moment.

Just checking -- did the rest of the team look happy on Saturday? What is the approved body language and facial expression for losing 4-0 in the 1st half to Brentford?

To me, it looks like the team has worked on pressing drills, defensive stuff -- with no obvious improvement, btw. There's zero sign that they've done any attacking drills -- there's no passing, no give and go's. Ronaldo (and Bruno and everyone else) look like they're shooting from long because no one is running, supporting, showing for the ball.

He must leave. Him staying and further disrupting atmosphere and undermining ETH is a recipe for disaster. If things weren't awful already.

Haaland had 8 EIGHT touches in their last match, and people understand it. It’s not his job to be massively involved in the build up play. Ronaldo actually makes himself available to receive the ball and even played left back for Shaw at one point. Still he is criticized.

Sadly, he was one of our better players.

In Louis’ accent.
‘United are a commercial club’

Doubtful it’s true to be honest, probably reason is what everyone already knows, that no CL teams want him.

To be honest I think it's more a case of him wanting us to rip up his contract and let him leave on a free. I'd imagine some club would take him with no fee and reduced wages. I think he's going to stink the club out until we grant him this.

He’s definitely got the money to buy himself out.
