You have to feel sorry for his fanboys cause they still so delusional & can’t accept the reality… he is nothing but a sub this season & hopefully he show some respect & don’t make a scene to disturb the team
Once he gets match fit he's clearly better than Rashford as a striker (hell, even without match fitness he been better than Rashford the last two matches once he's come on). Obviously we hope Martial will stay fit and in form and he will probably be first choice, but Ronaldo will start plenty of matches.

Gutted that this deluded past it player is still at the club, we are going to have to put up with journos asking a thousand questions about him and pundits rambling about him every week, the circus will continue

You realize we don't have Haaland or Lewa up top right ? His competitors are the injury-prone Martial and almost-always-awful-as-CF Rashford. Ronaldo will end up starting a lot of games sooner or later.

Much better. Looked like an actual footballer, more energy, neater play.

But still not good. It was funny that for 80 minutes the commentators kept talking about Ronaldo being ruthless unlike Rashford, and when free in the box he had two intercepted cutbacks, 1 intercepted layoff, and 1 missed scissor kick.

The only delusional one here is you if you genuinely believe Martial & Rashford will keep him out of the side for the season.

Coming on as a sub midday through the second half and starting a game is totally different. There is no way Ronaldo can have such an impact playing the full 90 mins. He is a great option to come off the bench. That’s it!

Fortunately he wont need to play for 90 minutes given the fixture congestion. We will be swapping players in and out all season, which we should get used to.

That was nearly a fantastic goal to be fair and everybody where I was jumped out of their seats as it looked like it was going in. I doubt we have another attacker that would even attempt that effort.

The brain fart by him at the end of the match was annoying though.

Going forward you should only start Ronaldo one-game-a-week. I think he's doing better because his body is better rested. I noticed a lot of posters speaking about his slow start but even when he started slow at Madrid and Juve, he performed better than what he is right now. His lack of preseason is showing and I'm not sure if he is ready to start for the next couple of games. Let him build on fitness - if Rashford plays poor let Ronaldo come in at half time for the next couple of games. No sense in rushing him especially if you get 3pts on board with Rashford starting.

He'll have to accept whatever Ten Hag decides, whether he likes it or not. If Ten Hag decides that Ronaldo is a bench player, then he'll tuck his tail between his legs and warm the bench just as he's instructed to do.

He threw his toys out of the pram this summer and threw himself at just about every top club in existence only to get rejected. His position is now weakened, and Ten Hag isn't the type of manager to put up with nonsense. So he'll shape up and do his best from the bench if that's what the manager wants.

Ronaldo needs the international break. Has to get his mind totally right and get committed to United, at least until the January transfer window. If he fully accepts where he's at right now and embraces what he can control, which is doing his best for United against the current opponent, he'll be fine.

Needs more minutes in the games...we're struggling to score, and he's our only goal machine

Ya, it wasn't a great cross, and his attempt was good.
But it was funny because he was being built up - continuously, the commentators just never stopped doing it for the whole game- as some kind of efficiency machine.

Go back to your natural habitat mate. You do not care about Man United or the premier league or nothing of the sort. You’re here to bash Ronaldo whether it’s deserved or not because you’re an insecure Messi fan. Messi is great and doesn’t need your help to cement his place in football history. You can leave now.

Who on earth are you to tell me what I care about? You're a Ronaldo fanboy who's so obsessed with Messi that he's bringing him up in a Ronaldo thread. Crying about Messi having more balón dors than your hero won't give Ronaldo another.

Take your own advice and get out of the thread if you can't stick to discussing the player in the thread topic. Wipe away those tears, while you're at it.

Everybody can see through your childish bullshit. I’m not gonna derail the discussion, just thought I’d point it out because you and your likes have become tedious. We don’t need more negativity here. No further replies.

But you did derail the discussion, because of your own insecurity about a player who has nothing to do with this thread. If it hurts you to read oh so bad things being written about your idol and you dont have the emotional maturity to deal with that, you can easily press the ignore button, rather than childishly throw insults and derail a thread.

Now, as I said, if you can't stick to the thread topic, don't bother writing up a post.

We've just won 3 straight games with him benched, conceding only one goal yet and seemingly turned a corner, yet people are calling for him to start games for some reason.

You missed the point then.

Those cutbacks were due to his movement. The first one, rashford should have been at the end of it (but he was tired so I get it)

The scissor kick almost looped into the back and sums the difference between the twin Rashford will never try that. He doesn't have the ruthless eye for goal.

Ronaldo and other strikers are not afraid to look like fools when trying the extraordinary

Seriously this guys posting activity is being in every Ronaldo thread and bringing up his favorite player that he is insecure about. I wouldn't engage. He lives rent free in their head.

Literally no one mentioned anything about balon dor. You're just becoming cringe now, constantly bringing it up as if you think it'll trigger people or something.

I hope @Niall or @Invictus wakes up with very bad bood and ban all these Ronaldo Messi posters. Forum and especially their threads will be so much better.

There is no need to bash Rashford nor Ronaldo over here. Rashford can play as a striker in a 2-striker formation, but as a CF that is a different task altogether. ETH is probably trying him there due to Rashford's off the ball movement and his shooting capabilities, but a CF needs to be stronger on the ball in terms of ball control and hold up play. Ronaldo is also not someone who can play as a CF, but as a striker he has the capability.

Ronaldo will be fine if he plays with inverted wingers, since the wingers are also cutting in to provide more numbers in the final third. With Anthony's arrival, the inverted winger style will be more prominent, reducing burden on Ronaldo to hold up play or be the sole CF in the attacking third. Ronaldo still lacks match fitness which he will improve during the Europa league game against Real Sociedad.

They will if Ronaldo doesn’t buy in. ETH is the boss - he either plays his way or not at all and he has the backing of the entire club in dropping him. Simple. Balls in Ronaldo’s court.
Considering how many different systems and managers Ronaldo has adapted to and his professional nature, you think he won’t “buy in?”

Didn’t know he played in defense. He also didn’t start against Brighton but we still lost.

We won 3 games in a row because ‘arry Maguire didn’t start.

Considering he’s undermined the last two managers at this club, insisted training must be fun and Ragnick wanted him out in January I have huge doubts. However, the difference here is ETH has shown it’s either his way or no way and he’s been humiliated all summer with ZERO top European clubs having any interest in signing him even with a pay-cut so maybe he’ll see sense, realise he’s a fading 37 year old, the team comes ahead of him and stop being an entitled bellend.

He'll probably refocus and get his mind back in it, and once that occurs he'll be back in the lineup.

With Antony, Sancho, Eriksen and Bruno, I imagine he'll thrive much more than before.

He was feeding off scraps last season and was our top goalscorer.

Man has a proven track record. I don't think he's finished just yet.

If he gets going and Martial gets fit and holds up the form he showed early on, we have a very dangerous team.

Without Martial and him, we still lack a player who can hammer in goals. Rashford doesn't cut it in that role and nobody else we have can do that.

The whole team defends, and it's a fine point the scarily indoctrinated cult of Ronaldo fan boys miss.
Rashford isn't a CF, can't head, hold up the ball, and doesn't press any where as much as we'd want him to, however, he does participate a lot more than Ronaldo does in defending from the front.
If you think our attackers have had nothing to do with the good defensive performances we've experienced, you're sorely mistaken.

Explain to us oh so mister knowledge how he is defending from the front when not pressing? He sure as hell doesn't have a tackle on him.

Also, you're saying he can do nothing a striker can but defend from the front. Wonder why we sold lingard then pretty sure we could play him there instead

A striker that can't attack effectively is useless. The defending is pointless. Defenders are at ease and able to compose themselves.

With Ronaldo defenders were instantly on the edge and wary of threat. You stretch their defense and give our final third attackers a chance to work their magic. It's why things changed when Ronaldo came on. It's why ant club Ronaldo has been in he lifts the whole team

Our last 2 managers were bad. Maybe Ronaldo was the only player who cared?
I thought it was Sir Alex who thought training should be fun.
Rangnick wanted Ronaldo out? Did he want someone in? Did he manage to get anything he wanted done?

The positives; Goals, commercial success...
The Negatives; Wants Out, back to goal play is non-existent, link up play is bad too.

If we can get him thinking we are capable of winning the league he will perform at his predatory peak for us.

The transfer window was closed. He Now needs to refocus on playing and get himself physically and mentally right. He probably has already started doing it. Then, it’s if he buys into ETH’s idea and demands. We don’t know. He has been poor from the bench. He needs to raise his game as impact sub; otherwise, he won’t even be used in that role. After he shows the real impact from the bench, he might be considered to start a game. I think this is the way ETH uses to integrate him into the team.

He doesn't press as much as we'd like but he does so more than Ronaldo, and does go into tackles more than Ronaldo (again not as much as we'd like but it's not that hard to surpass Ronaldo who is behind the pack in these aspects), that is defending from the front - it prevents opponents building from the back to mount sustained attacks and his speed keeps them honest and prevents them pouring people forward. Does that help? :)

As an attacker, he also makes runs which creates space for his teammates, can go past a player, and is a very viable counter attack outlet. I say this while recognising that Rashford is a poor option as a CF.

Ronaldo came on when the game had opened up and the opponents desperate for an equaliser and did slightly better than he did in the previous games by finding some spaces and actually managing to complete some simple passes this time while missing two chances to score or create a scoring situation. Other than that, Leicester has zero pressure from him building out from the back. Rashford is not the answer, but it's utterly idiotic and ignorant not to acknowledge that even strikers play a part in a team's defensive effectiveness.

About Ronaldo lifting any team he joins ...   are you being serious? Last time that happened was when he joined Real Madrid, the effect on whole teams since then has actually been the opposite.

Ronaldo will get goals, but the defensive solidarity of the team will suffer

I know he maybe isn’t fully March sharp but the signs are really starting to show that he is coming to the end. Just little things where 5-6 years ago he’d get away from people or he’d find the space for a shot but those things don’t seem to be happening as much now.

There was one moment where he was cutting across the box like we are so used to seeing him do but he just didn’t have the explosive power to get himself a gap for the shot. Been a few occasions like this. Man clearly still has a tonne to offer us but feel like another period of adaption for him and the team to get the best out of his diminishing physical abilities.

His link-up play isn't actually bad, it's just inconsistent like most other parts of his game including even finishing.

The stuff he's bad at now is his physicality which is almost non-existent and his defensive game which has always been terrible.

I’m fully aware of the concept of defending from the front and as a unit but you’re “sorely mistaken” if you believe that the absence of Ronaldo (a forward) is the reason our defensive record is suddenly so much better and not out cataclysmically error prone captain. I mean we’re probably the only set of fans that use an attacker as a scapegoat for lack of defensive acumen.

I mean we’re just going by media reports here.

Why insist on absolutes? His lack of defensive contributions is a factor, like it or not - I'm not saying it is the only reason :wenger:
