Cristiano Ronaldo’s next club? | Al Nassr

Obviously not but you said the game has moved on. Said it's not the winning method anymore to have one outstanding player being the focus.

So my question was peak Ronaldo, the outstanding player, you think the game has moved on and teams wouldn't want that guy?

You need to have a peak Ronaldo for it work.

Obviously Ronaldo at 27 is different to 37, which is what I am saying, you cannot carry him, without him carrying the team.

For example, Fergie made it work by shifting Rooney to accommodate Ronaldo, it worked because Ronaldo was scoring 30+ goals.

No serious club wants this current Ronaldo

Reckon it was the same in the summer. Chelsea were an outlier due to a new owner wanting to make a mark but it's clear the manager didn't want him.

That interview he did was a great thing for united cos it forced him out when it should have been the summer

No serious club wanted him when we signed him either.

Ronaldo might be thinking now he is a free agent, he will find it easier to get a top european club.

Another tough lesson and blow to his ego incoming.

Right so the game hasn't moved on from having that one outstanding player.

It's just doesn't work having a 37 year old who isn't very good anymore. Which has always been the case.

£3.3m per week in wages

If he feels he has nothing left to prove in European football, then that's a hell of a lot of money to turn down for a soon-to-be 38 year old

And then we'd likely be his last ever European club which means something to me weirdly

Yeah that sort of money is going to change his life. Fair play to him.

Thought he wanted CL football?
CL football didn't want him.
I can't believe people are criticisng him for taking the money. It was abundantly clear top clubs didn't want him and he has no intention of playing for minnows. Taking the money is the only logical option.

A true rags to riches story! He can now own 50 luxury cars instead of the 20 he's been struggling by with all these years.

Strange choice for a man who is so clearly ego driven. I guess he has two options. Play in a bit of a shit team for chump change or play for a really shit team and get paid obscenely. Retirement doesn't seem like an option for him.

Unbelievable money and they'll treat him like royalty. I can see why he wanted the divorce now.

It's actually more pathetic than that. No one actually wanted him for his footballing skills anymore. Also he wouldn't take a bit-part role at a bigger club so he is cashing out when his stock price is still high outside of Europe.

He is finished at this level now which isn't anything to be ashamed of at 37. The critical thing is that he realizes now that he is finished.

He would have still made this in the summer for a move. Just doesn’t make any sense. Could have left the season on a high with a trophy and possibly a trophy he never won. Glory means more to him then money ever did. Wouldn’t that not be a motivation? The man has won almost every trophy and probably has a billion in his bank account. Guessing he WAS expecting some big European team to get him, but he has no takers. What is the difference sitting on the bench at a big club that loved him and still earning a lot. Versus some SA team. Not as prestige. It really can’t be the money. Granted it’s a LOT of money. But I guarantee that wasn’t the reason. Thinks he’s entitled to start every game and moaned he wasn’t getting what he wants. Now he’s left united on bad terms and a bad image with him for nothing.

If that £173m a year contract is true, staying here for six months would have meant he'd "only" be earning £560k instead of £3.3m - so about £71m difference over 6 months.

He clearly saw the £££ and forced his way out, its probably the reason he was happy to forgot his payout with us in lieu of United not going after him legally, he's effectively shorted us a transfer fee the greedy cnut.

He is the master. The treatment for penis enlargement is actually pretty good there (traditional method, no surgery). He will probably change "siu" to "habibi" as well.

Can’t turn down that money. But if he starts smashing in goals in Saudi Arabia, that’s still going on his record, isn’t it? I mean, it’s still a professional league? People still talk about Pele scoring 1000+ goals despite half of them being in friendlies. Ronaldo might like 900+ professional career goals, with an asterisk that 100 of them were in Saudi Arabia.

What ever we think of Ronaldo, I can definitely say he would rather break records on the pitch than play for more money. The thing is, he is passed it being a regular for a top team, so doesn’t really have much of a choice now.

The only downside is we could have banked a sizable fee if he took their offer last summer.

Weird that he couldn't keep quiet and finish with us and still actually be seen positively.

But yeah shock horror 37 year old footballer cashes in to play in a smaller league. Pretty standard career journey.

Although it is funny he stopped talking to Neville when he said what Ronaldo is basically admitting by going to the middle east.

Saudi League isn’t what you think it is. As seen with the national side where most of the players play in the Saudi League, they are very decent footballers. Ronaldo will not have it easy there in the slightest. So it’s not a given he will break any records.

As I expected, it was either Asia or MLS, but he has pending issues in USA that might comeback anytime to haunt him. No club outside Premier League, Bayern or Real Madrid would want to take a major financial gambling without financial return, and we all know that the large majority of the clubs keep themselves alive by selling players.

Ronaldo is too old to play at the highest level. Thus he kicked out a proper fuss that contributed in him being released from a situation were everyone would see the plaster going off while concurrently making loads of money. This should have been handled better. United should have allowed him to go on free and Ronaldo should have left the club gracefully. Its yet another mess of the Murtoughy-Ole administration who gave a 36+ a silly contract to start with

He’ll have it easy since he’ll be joining (in guessing) the best side there. I’ll say there’s some dross there beyond the 11/12 players that play a decent standard

True, I didn’t mean to be disrespectful. But it’s clearly some levels below the top European leagues that I’m sure he’d rather be playing in.

Was hoping it was a 6 month contract until the summer and then he returned to Sporting, a return could still be on the cards but who knows.

He’s 38 he himself has said he only has 2 years left on his career it’s very hard to turn down that money at his age. Will gain an even more massive following now as well.

Good luck to him if true.

If true it's not surprising. Remember the first seemingly organized media campaign by his camp was about the wage cut in case of United failing to qualify for the CL, then later during the summer it was reported that CL clubs inquired but that no one wanted to pay his full wage and that neither United nor Ronaldo were ready to gift anything. He clearly cares about money which is fair enough whether it is a status thing or if he wants to get as much money aside for his family and descendants.

What happened to playing at a high level until the age of 40, or has he been misinformed about the strength and global standing of the Saudi League?

Such a shame it has come to this. If he'd have toned the ego down a bit and accepted his fading physical prowess, he could've retired gracefully near the top. Even if it meant being a bit-part, super sub type player. If it was truly about money, he would've gone straight to Saudi after Juventus.

Yeah that sort of money is going to change his life. Fair play to him.
Funny

Obviously he doesn't need it. But who is realistically rejecting over 6x times what they were earning before, no matter how rich they already are.

Anyone would justify it to themselves - and Ronaldo can justify it quite easily considering if he retired today he'd be considered the best player ever by many

They aren’t event the best side there. Al-Hilal are, they have 7 of the 11 Saudi players that started against Germany. Then you have teams like Al-Shabab, Al-Ittihad as well and a couple others that are as good or better so it won’t be easy in the least. I know this because I scout them regularly for my club in the UAE. Funnily similarly named Al-Nasr but with one s.

Your manager keeps saying he doesn’t want him. The penny has dropped for Ronaldo that not only do elite teams not want him, the teams below that don’t. His actions at United this season got him out of the club but also ruined a lot of remaining perspective buyers. Teams will have watched him attack the club and undermine the manager and think ‘he could do that here too’.

Our manager has literally never said that.

And, crucially, it’s his only offer.
