Crap football opinions your family and friends have

A good buddy of mine was outraged and lost it when I said talented but not physical players from the past will get killed in the modern game without current doping and conditioning and will not even make it in midtable clubs. For example Baggio and Rui Costa.

He seems to think being kicked in the ankles by old-school defenders and being overpowered by modern beast athletes is the same thing.

My brother said Brighton are going to win the league following last weekend's results.

My Dad rates players as good or shit based on how well they've done in the fantasy football for the last 3 gameweeks.

My dads favorite footballer for a decade was Savo Milosevic. For an Icelandic United fan such as himself I always thought that was odd pairing.

Too many of my friends are Liverpool fans. All if their opinions are crap :)

lots of them vastly overrate Van Dijk and Arnold
TAA is the most over rated player in Premier league history and it's not even close.

I honestly do not see the fascination with this fella. He can be crap all game and deliver one great pass/cross and that's all you hear about. It doesn't matter than he's been run ragged all game.

Have a mate who thinks Fowler was better than Shearer.

I disagree with you. If you think Baggio or Rui Costa would be mid table players or less if their prime versions time travelled to 2024, then that is just laughable.

A city supporting coworker claimed City deliberately lost the FA cup final as it would be beneficial to their sponsors for United to be in the Europa league, he couldn't explain the finer details of how this works and saw his arse when I suggested if that were true they should add match fixing the 115 charges.

It was about 5 years ago. I had this big fall out with my step-dad. We were carrying this couch he got from his brother. We were carrying it along, and he got a bit knacked he said, "I'll stop for a wee break." So we're sitting down, chatting away getting on brand new. Then after about three or four minutes-

My brother maintains van Nistelrooy was just a tap-in merchant.

What rubbish opinions have you heard from your family and friends?
Is he 10? I maintain anyone with that fecking annoying thought process must either be a child or a complete moron.

No offence to your brother

Guy at work genuinely believes Anderton was better than Beckham

Any Arsenal fan who harps on about their "Invincible" season, ignoring that they only won 1 trophy that year

Agree. He seems to lash in about 50 crosses a game, 49 of them dreadful, and people act like he's peak Beckham ability

That England eats in the same table as Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Italy, France and Spain even when they havent won anything since that very cuestionable worldcup from the stone age.

Kinda similar to how some think Keane was just a thug in midfield. I mean, he was a thug, but he was a lot more than that too.

You could put the Netherlands there despite never winning it too

When Klose broke the record for most goals ever at the world cup, a British girl I worked with who had a German mother, came in and said "Wow it's so amazing that we have the best player in the history of football."

When I tried to point out that there are other factors in that she acted like I was an idiot.

I worked in Newcastle for a while in 2008 and heard some classics there:

"Newcastle is bigger than Tottenham/Everton/Aston Villa"
"Woodgate would never choose a smaller club like Tottenham over us" (he did)
"We're gonna finish top 4 this year" (they were relegated).

Roy Kean was overrated.

Dont complain about city cooking the books, beat them on the pitch  .

One of my colleagues/friends actually believes that Saka has had more 'impact' and is 'better' than Cristiano Ronaldo (during Ronaldo' time in the Premier League)...

So CR7 (Premier League Career) is worse than Saka'.

I think there is some awful statistic graphic going around at the moment comparing the two.. probably one of the worst takes in football history.

When I challenged him and asked if Saka has won a Ballon d'Or, UCL and Premier League title all in the same season yet, I'm met with "it doesn't matter"...

#ArsenalFans

Arsenal fans are the most deluded in real life. No matter how shit they are, they'll always have he best players in the league in most positions. I know a lot of them hate AFTV but most I know could become regular guests on there. So many weird takes.

I wouldn't sit the Netherlands in that table neither that's why I didn't mentioned them. But I think Netherlands is above England, even when they have won nothing just purely because their influence in football is deeper than England's with all due respect.

90% of this thread is opinions shared by people paid millions of pounds a year to understand football.

This is how it's done.
I'm fairness the thread title asks for crap football opinions. Doesn't specify 'invalid if shared by pundits'.

There has never been a time period where any Arsenal fan I met didn't think a Utd/Arsenal joint 11 would include 11 Arsenal players.

"Ronaldo just doesn't have Hleb's dribbling in tight spaces mush"

A lot of idiots think he was just a thug and that was it.

Mainly younger people I am guessing don't realise what a great passer of the ball he was.

I feel there is an implication that the opinions should be more crap, or at least more interestingly crap, than the ones generally shared by us on here.

Can you get deeper than basically creating what became 20th century football and spreading it around the world? The Netherlands were minnows until the late 60s and not to take away from how influential Ajax/national team '70s tactics was for modern football, but they weren't the only ones implementing ideas like pressing, false nine and players needing to be universal/polyvalent. England/UK may have lapsed long ago into tactical dinousaurs/followers of balding Spaniards, but it doesn't get more fundamental than their influence on football.
