Ok, to test this new youtube thingy majob i'm creating a thread to see what everyones favorite cover songs are... I have a select few, maybe not to everyones taste, some people will actually hate them, but IMO they're up there with the best of em.

Placebo cover of The Smiths - Big Mouth Strikes Again.

Placebo cover of The Pixies - Where is my mind.

second one doesnt work...first one may actually be the worst cover version of any song ive ever heard before in my life....and theres some really shit cover versions out there.

anyway...dont know if this is best cover ever...but its definitely the best cover version of a beatles song....and one of the finest live performances ever captured on film.

Like I said, not to everyones taste. Yeah they disabled the embeded feature of the second video. Link works now though. I also think the Arctic Monkeys doing Love Machine and the Kooks doing Crazy were pretty decent covers too.

quick look through my itunes found these

3rd Strike - paranoid
Ataris - Boys of Summer
Brand New Sin - House of the Rising Sun
Dope - Rebel Yell
Eagles of Death Metal - Stuck in the Metal
Eddie Vedder - I Believe in Miracles
Limp Bizkit - Faith
Machine Head - Battery
Metallica - Die Die My Darling
Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night
Offspring - I Wanna Be Sedated
Rob Zombie - Blitzkrieg Bop

On the subject of worst covers, Sissor Sisters murdering of Comfortably Numb is hard to beat.

That one posted on here a few weeks back of Fall Out Boy murdering Love Will Tear Us Apart was THE WORST cover i've ever heard.

That's so bad it makes me want to cry...

They should all be shot for that

It's so bad, I even started a thread for it a while back

My favourite band is Oasis, so to cover any of their songs, it's gotta be bloody good. Ryan Adams achieves it with Wonderwall for me, it's a different enough interpretation, sung hauntingly well, to get the green light from me. Well done lad

EDIT did I feck it up? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Giu60KG4uDI

try this, just paste this part Giu60KG4uD when clicking the youtube icon

Lick The Tins cover of an Elvis song from the film Some Kind Of Wonderful

Ignore the video. I have no idea what it is about.

Saw this band, group, or whatever they're called on business in America, nice version of the classic White Rabbit. Again, ignore the video.

Blue Man Group - White Rabbit.

Frente's version of Bizarre Love Triangle. Actually better than New Order's original which is surprising.

Song To The Siren - This Mortal Coil (original by Tim Buckley. Jeff Buckley's father).

Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World (not quite as good as the Bowie original but a good effort)

Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2U (Written by prince and originally recorded by one of his side projects The Family)

The Black Keys - Have Love Will Travel (live)

Radiohead - Nobody Does it Better (live)

I like it...I'm sure no one else here does :)

Oasis doing My Generation (Live)

Nirvana doing a cover of Lake Of Fire
