Coutinho / Liverpool to sign Brazilian from Inter?

Won't Suarez be playing deeper now Sturridge is there as the leading-line striker? Coutinho is an attacking midfielder, and you don't play both CF's and CAM's together or it'd become far too congested. Shades, I think Suarez could be your between the lines player given his dribbling ability, unless you're looking at a 433 with Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling up top and with Coutinho in the midfield.

Think they'd like to have both options tbh. Right now in a midfield 3 they lack a AM.

Yeah, Suarez has been deeper since Sturridge came in. But it's all about options I suppose and I think Rodgers is ultimately aiming towards a 4-3-3 in which Coutinho should fit.

Who? Ince?

He has probably more output right now, but Zaha has the greater potential. Will be like 5/6 million + Pacheco anyway.

Bit of an odd comment that. Coutinho's put in some good performances for Inter Milan in Serie A and the Champions League where as Zaha's put in good performances for Crystal Palace in the Championship.

I don't see how you can just declare that Zaha has more potential, there's basically nothing to really base such an opinion on.

I was talking about Ince there.

Inter are fecked. Must be up shit creek if they're willing to sell him at a cut-price. Wouldn't mind us going for him, but we're well stocked in attacking midfield.

What has happened to Coutinho? I remember when he played one of his first games for Inter in the Champions League and the radio and pundits were saying that they think Inter have just uncovered the next superstar etc. Everyone was really blown away by him.

Hasn't developed as expected since then. Did decently in La liga on loan but then back at Inter hasn't impressed that much, it seems.

All the other Inho's should sue Gervinho for diluting their brand value tbh.

He's a knock inho. Coming from a different continent and all. It's obvious when you look at his name. Gervi in Icelandic means 'fake'.

Sky saying fee agreed as well. Good potential signing this.

Brenden Rodgers says he will play it as a Defensive Attacking Midfielder.

Or as he calls it a false, reverse, half midfielder.

Has anybody even seen him recently or they're just saying good signing on the basis of his performances two years ago?

Exact thing happened in the Sahin thread.

Sturridge and Coutinho for a little over 20m then? You have to say that on paper it looks like a good January for Rodgers. They needed more attacking options to complement Suarez, buying two young and promising attackers fits the bill perfectly.

Obviously they could both turn out to be shit, or get injured, or anything else. But academically at least they've certainly made an effort to shore up the weakest part of the squad.

He is wide player?

No. it would be a 3-5-2. Sturridge and Suarez as the '2' with Suarez playing the '10' role buzzing around everywhere. Similar to the way Italy were set up during Euro 2012 using Cassano/Di Natale and Balloteli.

Which usually is a formation that doesn't work very well against teams with quick wingers. It works very well in Italy where basically no team attacks with pace from wide areas. Would be another idiotic decision to try it in England with no one in the team who played it before. With lots of experience and great fullbacks/wingbacks you can make it work in europe but in the premier league? Well, I'd love Liverpool to try it, should be fun.

True. But I'm just conjecturing here, haven't got a clue what Rodgers has planned but I'd love to see them try it. Would be an interesting experiment. Wigan did it in the second half of last season and went on a good run of form so maybe it could work?

It's pretty bog standard. Just the sort of players they should be buying as they're not going to attract the biggest names until they break into the top four. Never seen Coutinho play but Liverpool is about Sturridge's level.

They constantly go on about how little money they have.

Signings since Jan 2011

Coutinho-£8,500,000
Daniel Sturridge £12,000,000
Fabio Borini £10,000,000
Joe Allen £15,000,000
Oussama Assaidi £2,300,000
Samed Yesil £1,000,000
Jordan Henderson £16,000,000
Charlie Adam £7,000,000
Doni Free
Stewart Downing £20,000,000
Sanchez Jose Enrique £6,300,000

(Also you could add in other few million for Sahins loan.)

That's sort of what I'm getting at. If we (or City) were buying these players it'd be different. At Liverpool's current level I'd say these players have been purchased at reasonable prices and can reasonably be expected to help them challenge for the top 4. Its certainly an improvement over Dalglish's transfers, though of course that doesn't mean much.

Looks a done deal.
