Could Utd be sold soon?

Out of curiosity, if the Glazer's are interested in transferring ownership (partial or full) to the fans at the right price, how many of you would buy in and what % of your savings will you comitt?

Assume that we'll move to a model similar to RM or Barca where fans get voting rights.
1% of £4 billion (using the US version of a billion) is £40 million. If everyone put £100 in that would still need 400,000 fans just to get 1%. a fan buyout is impossible

This may be the one post of yours I agree with in this thread. That ship sailed a good while ago, sadly.

If we get bought by the Saudis, we'd be the richest club in the world and could out spend anyone...even within FFP.

Problem with this though is, we'd continue to be a circus. I do feel our next owners need to be of a business background, rather than a state run background. This way, we'd have more of a chance to have things put in place, whereby we could sustain success on and off the pitch.

Even if it's possible getting a decision made would be practically a nitemare. The CEO in these kinds of ownership won't have a carte blanche to sanction a 100m purchase and rightly so.

Even if it's possible, 100 pounds wont buy you a voting rights on the table.

Genuine question. Couldn’t anyone get a loan and buy United? Obviously I know not anyone, but someone capable of getting that sort of loan.

If that someone was a huge fan and didn’t want any money from united, and so we spent all our profits on improvement. Also to service the debt.

Could that work?

We have done that. Buying a car on loan with said cars as collateral. House mortgage is on pretty much same deal. I suspect most business is funded by loans with the business as collateral to be quite common.

But why should any rational people do so? Selling yout assets to buy another assets outright isnt a good business plan.

You think the Mega rich Saudis who would wipe out the debt by buying the club are worse than than the Glazers because from what I've seen life doesn't look to bad on the blue side of the City.

That particular Saudi family are worse than the crooks who own City - who they bought to portray them and their country in a good light. Don’t think we will ever be blessed with a brilliant owner, but I’d pick the Glazers over that Saudi family any day of the week - they are a bad bad bunch.

When you hear that City recently offered to triple Messi"s salary,do we not feel a degree of envy? of course we do and the only realistic chance we could ever get on a level playing field with that is if someone like the saudi royal family was to buy the club from the glazers, from a football point of view its not even a debate!

I don't. I want my club to succeed the right way on and off the pitch. I don't want players coming here solely because we are tripling their wages, which would be the sole reason that Messi would have moved. Money is undoubtedly a factor but I want players coming here for footballing reasons as well.

I agree with this but I think by us agreeing to pay Sanchez mega wages. Decent players are going to see us as a big pay day and want similar wages, which is a shame.

United will not be sold any time soon unless someone offers £5b or more. Why would the Glazers sell. It is easy money for them. They poured nothing(in terms of money) in to the club and took out so much, just to pay off something they piled on. As long as the club is on top off the field, there is very little reason for them to sell. It is a cash cow for them.

Also another reason why the club will not be sold is because of the amount of money it will cost to buy the club. Letting go of a couple of billion is a lot more difficult to do than letting go of a couple of 100m. My worry is, the new owner could potentially be worse than the old ones. Due to the valuation of the club now compared to when the Glazers took over, who's to say that they will increase the debt in order for the owner to make his money back when be buys the club off the Glazers. The Glazers have potentially screwed up United for decades to come because of their greed.

If we get bought by the Saudis it will be even worse; you cannot fathom how much geo-politics will affect us.

United'' twitter account has ~20Mn followers which means each one has to put in $1000 for fans to buy a majority stake.

ImI just taking the Twitter number as a proxy. Not everyone is going to contribute, but some of the really wealthy fans could probably compensate for that. $1k doesn't feel like a lot.

You've figured out how the stock market works.

Love United but as an American, I couldn’t support the club owned by the Saudi royal family after their links to funding 9/11. There’s also the ongoing air strike campaign in Yemen which is deplorable and the allegations of killing the WaPo journalist. As many of said, some things in life are bigger than supporting a football club.

The only way I see that changing is if we turn into another Leeds and go into free-fall. Sponsors will jump ship and the revenue stream will dry up. I hope that never happens, of course, but parasites don't usually stay too long on a moribund host.

There would be a lot of our first team players losing their hands as punishment for stealing a living!

The Saudis are the last people I'd want to see owning us, for the reasons you've mentioned and others beside. Looking back, it's a bloody shame Murdoch didn't buy us. He's not the most inspiring individual I grant you, but at least he isn't a serial perpetrator of crimes against humanity.

Under the ownership of the saudi royal family you could be forgiven for thinking ten years down the line with title no.26 and 5 champions league trophies later as opposed to a sinking ship under the glazers, in football terms, you do the maths.....

No, he's just got an extensive history of backing and supporting a wide array of politicians who've perpetrated crimes against humanity.

You know we have the second highest wage bill in the world, right?

This rumour bothers me a lot. I hate the Glazers but the Saudis are a detestable bunch. Probably not true but somebody will buy out the Glazers eventually

The parasites aren’t selling anytime soon. Who in their right mind would sell an ATM? They’re happy with the status quo. They’re the reason the acceptance of mediocrity has been allowed to fester.

No, also it obviously wasn't true. Messi reportedly makes 0.8-1.5m euros per week at Barca. Do you really think City would offer 2-4m euros per week over 3-5 years to a 31 year old?

I hope it’s true. We’ve built the empire largely by outspending the rest since the 1960’s. We have fallen to a very poor second because our spending power is no longer a ‘USP’. If the Saudis buy us, maybe we can regain our previous position.

In our lifetime you will not be seeing ever again Utd winning the league under the current owners, how sad is that prospect! Under the Saudis its absolutely the opposite and thats the reality, lets hope in the next few months the rumours intensify!

So the majority do not want the immoral Saudis while the same lot are quite happy to be strung along by a family from the only country to have used a nuclear bomb...

Leicester won it 2 years ago.

There's a marked difference between the US using a nuclear bomb during wartime (which I disagree with) and the current Saudi regime.

The majority must just have missed the recent rumours about United being bought out by a time-traveling Harry S. Truman...

I am no fan of the Saudis but people who eschew these states but are proud to be from a few of the biggest war mongering nations in the world should really read up on their history more.
Who's been on here saying they are proud of any of their own nations' historic warfare, and more to the point, what has that got to do with the present discussion about a current regime who still practice brutal punishment on their own citizens (as well as well documented international atrocities) potentially buying the club?

We're not talking about just some people from Saudi Arabia, but the rulers of it, the ones who order these things to happen on their behalf.

Were the Glazers running the United States government during World War 2?

Bro, nobody is saying that US was right to have used a nuclear bomb. And the Japanese might look all nice and pacifistic now, but they were the China of the first half of the 20th century, with plans to conquer Asia. You can look up their conquests in Korea and the South East Asian region and their war with China. Every country in the world has blood on it's hands at some point in history. That's the reality.

On topic, I just don't want our club to be used as a PR machine for the Saudis or any other country for that matter. Like I said before, I would much rather the Glazers get their act together, before their incompetence pushes more fans to become disillusioned with them and demand the club to be sold to some horrifying dictator. You know Wenger was right when he said, 'we are competing against countries now'.

I can just vision it now

2021/22 season United under the ownership of the Saudi’s playing Liverpool away with Jones, Smalling and Fellaini being recalled to the team.

All the billions in the world and the manager still picks these 3 donkeys!
