Could they void the PL due to the Coronavirus? | No | Resuming June 17th

This is only for this covid period right? To prevent injuries, etc? Will any carryover into the new season require new statutes?

Yes, until they get
'' Liverpool ( * nobody really cares, there was a global pandemic )''
over the finishing line.

Jesus we sound like RAWK here at times. Liverpool's league win will be about as clear as any in history simple as. I've been guilty of this shit too and, while I don't think they are as good a team as made out, I eventually have to accept that its my own conceptions that fuel those opinions. No there won't be an asterix against a team that was one/two games away from winning a league before it was delayed. Everyone knew they were champions before Covid ever happened. You can argue about the quality of their football, players etc but not one person can honestly argue about the validity of their title win. It ain't a team that is two points ahead, its a team that were inevitably going to win the league anyway.

I don't agree with the league starting from a human viewpoint but I have to admit that from a selfish viewpoint I'm happy at the prospect of being able to watch games again.

That's the one thing i don't get, the title race is the only thing that's unaffected by this regardless of what road the PL go down yet's that's the one people are getting their knickers in twist about:lol:

It might or might not be a line of thought exclusive to some Utd fans who are currently in fear of us closing in on their 20 league titles. MIGHT be, I dunno.

What a little rant!

Again I don't understand why you're getting so worked up about it. You'll get your first PL title so don't panic. Just accept that this is a truly unique season that will certainly be referred to in the history books. Even more so when you consider the last 9 games are being played with huge changes to the home/away format and the rules. Don't get why it's so difficult to accept.

I'm content with Liverpool being crowned champions. I take it you will be questioning the integrity of the sport next season as well considering at least half of the season will be played without fans.

I wonder what planet some of you are on I really do. If you don't see the impact of playing a neutral venues, not having any fans present and changing how many subs you are allowed to make then you're a lost cause. To say it doesn't have any impact on things is full on head in the sand and complete and utter bollocks. Liverpool will win the league and deserve to do so but let's not make things up.

These things have an impact on all things including us trying to catch Chelsea and relegation. If we are honest with ourselves then the one thing it has no impact on is a team that were 20 odd points ahead and within two games of winning the title. Liverpool winning the league was delayed by Covid not affected by it. They weren't within touching distance of any team before the pandemic hit.

If anything us and Chelsea has more significance as we were picking up form while they seemed to be faltering a little bit with a herder run in to come. However they can argue that we have two of our best players back when otherwise we wouldn't have. I hate Liverpool winning the league but they are literally in the least disputable league position pre Covid.

I'll argue all day about 08 United being a better team than them and so on but the fact is that they are going to win the league and they deserve it as much as any prior league winner regardless of current circumstances.

The question is: were Liverpool going to win the League before it was delayed? We all know the answer to this.

That's fine but refusing to acknowledge the points about the league changing as some here are doing is just stupid. It's quite obvious the pandemic has had a huge impact on football and it's quite obvious it's had an impact on the PL full stop. That's not up for debate it's an absolute fact. Just why Liverpool fans are bothered by this I'll never know. They still get to win the league but to think no one will make reference to how this season finished given the impact the changes will have on it is just wishful thinking.

Ah I see, that I agree with. Of course this season will become linked with Covid and the circumstances. If I'm being honest with myself, though, it won't impact their title win for me but I can see how history will maybe 'dilute' it.

No. Because the season will start and finish with the same rules. If you can't see the difference then you're beyond help.

I hope the five substitute rule stays in place whenever football normalizes as well. Having tired players on the field just leads to a decrease in the quality of football on display, and there's no real reason why having three subs is better than having five.

Haha but the impact of not having fans fans for the first half of the season and then having them back possibly for the 2nd half will be there. You will 100% get people moaning.

Haven’t given any of this my full attention yet. Any chance they resume the European matches? Understand if that’s not, that’s a lot traveling and chances to get/spread the virus further.

I can think of two reasons.

1, Having more subs favours the richer clubs (who have deeper and better squads).
2, More timewasting at the end of games.

Having tired players will lead to errors but that all adds to the drama for me. Let the fitter players shine!

There won't be more timewasting since the 5 subs have to be made at 3 different moments instead of 5, so the amount of subs taking place will not be more.

Also disagree that it favours richer clubs. What it would do for Liverpool for example is that it would give more opportunities to the likes of Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Neco Williams in games where we have a big lead. In close games or important games, it won't make that much of a difference. A fourth and fifth substitution will always lead to a decrease of quality, apart from City who have an out of this world bench. You're not convincing me that our fourth or fifth sub, whoever it may be, is an upgrade over Sadio Mane who's just played 80 minutes. They're professional athletes.

When they make multiple subs at the same time now (or at least, before Corona), it takes longer than when they make a single sub.

And you seem to agree with me that Man City will benefit from this, surely you also agree that the likes of Chelsea and Man United are going to have deeper benches than Sheffield United.

Well it will absolutely favour squads with better players, you can’t really argue with that.

Come on!

Don't take things so seriously - it's only natural for us to wind up our opponent fans.

It's only humour and banter. :D

I get that!! I will always partake in it too, I just don't want this place to become the forum it used to mock. I remember their threads on how we were buying the league, how the refs and FA were in our favour and their threads on how their team was better than ours!! It hurts but they deserve it and they are a great team, but not as great as they think!!

I am all for humour banter but it does sound a bit Rawkish reading some of these posts and they do not read like a total piss take or wind-up.

I think the idea of *asterisk on a title like it’s undeserved is where it gets silly, almost vexatious.

How is my post RAWKish when it's factual? Just cause you don't like the content doesn't make it any less true.

Deeper benches, probably, but I'm not scared if Chelsea uses its 4th sub to bring on fecking Giroud or even Abraham for Werner. I don't even know Utd's subs are apart from the likes of Mata and Jones, but if they wanna bring on Chong with their fifth sub against Liverpool, by all means do so...

A fourth and fifth sub will marginally impact the game, or only impact games which will have already been decided imo. And it's not even sure it's gonna be withheld for next seasons since it's a temporary rule which will be reviewed after the current season ends.

Likewise feel free to bring on Keita and give everyone a chuckle. ;)

Maybe to kill a game they're winning but while chasing it would be completely counterproductive to make 5 subs, it's too many and will ruin any flow the team had.

Likewise. Everyone else in the forum has their own opinion on the matter. I merely flagging it sounded a bit RAWKish and now Rafa Benetiz declaring the Facts.

clearly touched a nerve.

Games against Sheffield United and Brighton will both be on Sky Pick - Sky's FTA channel. Sandwiched in the middle of those two PL ties is the FA Cup Quarter-Finals at Norwich which is on the BBC. Lot of United on FTA television.

It's just a silly post that's all. I'm clearly stating the facts as to the impact the virus has had on football. Surely you're not too blinkered to see that. It's really quite objective. The season started with one set of rules and will finish with another. To outright deny that is laughable.

It’s not a matter of you being scared. It’s a matter of fact, ultimately the clubs with the most money and the deepest squads have more options to bring on the pitch. Not even sure why this is being debated.

I still think that at the time the league was stopped Liverpool were in a really shaky moment where they had had a run of shit results and looked extremely flaky . I don`t agree with Michael Owen and think Liverpool "pumped" Atletico , in fact the last 2 Atletico goals looked like the Liverpool defenders were Knackered. A couple more bad results at that time and who knows, I mean they have bottled it before , but as The Religion says we will never know as they have now had time to reset and the rules have been altered ready for them to go again . Yes, they will win the league and most likely would have without the season break but there will always be a slight doubt as things definitely came at a good time for them . Well done *

To kill a game yes, and even if that is the case then they won’t use it, it does however give them the option to use it if they want/need to, therefore having a deeper bench to choose from. It’s an obvious advantage for the more wealthy teams even if it’s a minimal one.

It’s also good news for academy players for when a game is dealt with.

Factually untrue, you have the same kind of options on your bench, it's the quality which may be different. Which, again, as was my point, will be a footnote in 99.9% of the remaining games imo.

What are you on about? Who’s you? By ‘more options’ I obviously meant ‘’more quality options’.

Like the example someone gave in a previous post, Man City are the obvious example. Or compare Chelsea’s options to Sheffield United.

You can play that game 100 times and 95 times it won't be decided by the fourth or fifth sub. That's my whole point, it marginally impacts the game. You have some on here going on about it as if some teams will be able to field 13 players by the sound of it.

I don’t think anyone has said that.

Anyway I agree with you and I have said that it makes a marginal difference however it marginally favours clubs with more money/better squads.

Which of course means it is fair to say that there will be an asterisks next to Liverpool’s name when they win the league.

I think the big difference for me, isn't in the game they make the subs, but subsequent games.

Bigger teams can make 5 subs, with competent replacements, without fear of it affecting the game too much for them, meaning they can rest them for the next game.
