I meant taking into account all forms of the game, the types of innings he's played, him being technically superior (at least in my opinion to Ponting) etc..

of course its very subjective, but I definitely rank Tendulkar as the greatest batsman ever in the modern era of cricket..i.e I wasn't old enough to watch Bradman etc...

Like I said, it was a brain-fart not including him in my initial post there. And as well he should be, I certainly rate him higher than Ponting.

I love how Hayden beat his record for the highest ever Test-match score, only for Lara to come out within a few weeks and take it back. What an amazing player, and a joy to watch.

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not calling him a failure. He was an excellent batsmen (and fielder), in both Tests and One-Dayers. It's just that I (we, me and Spoony) feel he didn't live up to his potential.

He was always so laconic in his game, never looked rushed, always looked like he just didn't give two shits. He was certainly more talented than his brother, yet who would you say had the better career? Mark should've got a lot more out of himself than he did, I feel.

Same here, I love watching VVS bat. He was extremely stylish to me.

Unfortunately he almost always seemed to score big on the days I couldn't watch the game - then when I did he'd fail miserably.
 
Congrats to Sachin and He is my favorite cricketer all right but Lara is a bit better imo.
