Or rather the seeming lack of it...

To me it looked quite clear when Martial was down after the clash of heads that he wasn't in good shape. He didn't look with it at all.

5 minutes later or whatever it was and he's fouled and falls to the ground and struggles to walk off the pitch, holding his head.

This is something that needs to be taken more seriously. If there's any question the player should be taken off the pitch, and there should be an independent doctor/physio at each game who makes the call. Second impacts can be extremely dangerous.

I thought new rules were introduced after the Lloris incident at Everton?

Agree. Seemed very irresponsible by our medical staff and judging by Martial's reaction and state after the goal, the concussion he surely must have suffered seemed to have been aggravated.

I think he was embarrassed he lingered too long on the ball and it cost us.

You can see on the replay that didn't seem to follow the finger showed to him by the physio, the very basic examination, yet he came back on. I don't know what the feck were they thinking.

I think he wasn't seeing clearly at all after the first knock. You see him falling in slowmotion and he's doing nothing to stop his head from smashing into the ground. The dangerous thing is he might have an even worse recovery now. In other sports you don't get much more than 2-3 chances in your career to come back from knocks - after that you're done says the doctors.

Yeah, not like he couldn't physically stand up alone two minutes after the fact, or looked completely dazed or anything.

I thought something had been introduced too, but if it has it's failed here today.

I'm pretty sure after that incident they said that the physio and doctor had the final say and players had to be withdrawn if they felt they were concussed.

He should have been taken off after the clash. Safety of the player is first and foremost.

Shocking to leave him on the guy took a headbutt clean.

 that was in slow motion.

He'll have passed the physio tests and was expected to clear his head shortly, it's unfortunate what happened and I'd imagine he's not too unhappy at the chance to come off.

That's quite simply moronic.
Maybe the highly qualified medical staff, some of the best in the world, know more than some frustrated online football fans.

the physios and refs were incredibly negligent there, both should have some serious questions asked of them and sanctions against them. wouldn't be surprised if martial is out for a fair few weeks after taking another knock afterwards.

Leave the wumming for another thread.

I'm being serious, IMHO (that's in my opinion) I think the medical staff's final decision may have been altered by past events. Anyway, that's all I wanted to say about the subject.

So nobody ever makes a mistake?
Of course it's a possibility. It's also a possibility I'm right and all the posters in here immediately blaming the medical staff are making a mistake.

You can't blame the ref when there's doctors there, surely?

Nothing to do with the ref, he's not qualified to make that call. Purely down to the medical assessment team.

So you honestly think that on being fouled Martial was so embarrassed that he decided to fake a concussion as an excuse to get off the pitch?

I refer you to my initial response.

It appears even the medical staff are poor at decision making.

he's qualified to force a full head injury assessment.

There was no head to head contact and the doctors said he was fine to carry on. There's no ref in the world that would have done that today.

at the initial clash of heads there was. no way after that clash and him being down for so long do you let someone carry on. wagging a finger for two seconds isn't long enough for a full assessment.

The way he lay on the floor like that after the goal, I do, yea. He knows he's not up to it today as much as the rest of us.

Do you really think the only reason he lost the ball was due to the knock on his head?

Funny the pundits didn't bring this up at all at half time.
